Dawnpelt smiled and purred. "Alright, let's go sort these herbs now,"she meowed, and padded into the medicine cat's den. She set her herbs in a small pile and began with the coltsfoot.

She nodded and walked inside the medicine cat's den. She put the herbs in the same pile and she sat to saw her mentor's actions.

Dawnpelt picked up the horsetail with her jaws carefully and dropped it into a leaf wrap and then set it under a rock. She turned to her apprentice. "Horsetail is for infected wounds,"she mewed, and picked up the marigold she collected earlier.

Sandpaw nodded and curled her tail happily. "I told you I would come back! I promised!" She repeated. She was unable to contain her excitement. "How have you been? I'm sorry for just leaving, but you know my heart lies with my clan," she meowed. "I missed you, though."

Shatterstar sighed as the loner finally followed her. "Thank you. Now, tell me what the problem is. I want to hear it coming straight from you." Her voice was calm with no trace of hostility.

Gem smiled. "That's perfectly alright, Sandpaw," she purred.

Puddlepaw stared at the two cats. What? What? What was going on?

Jack rolled his eyes. "I wasn't aware there was any problem. Your subordinate prodded my kit and then brought me here."

Shatterstar sighed. "I am sorry she dragged you here. She told me that there was a shortage in prey outside our borders. Is that correct?"

Sandpaw smiled. "Gem, I've missed you. Ever since you rescued me from Crystalclan camp, I've been close to you. Why don't you come with me to the clan?" Her Amber eyes were pleading.

Jack nodded. "What do you expect? How long has it been since you've been outside your territory?" His voice was suddenly quiet and sharp, any trace of sarcasm disappearing.

Gem looked uneasy. "I... I, I don't know if the other cats would want me. I don't think they'd... understand what I did. To them, I just took you."

Puddlepaw grew increasingly confused. What was going on?

Sandpaw stood straighter. "But to me, you rescued me. Without you, I probably would have been killed in the battle. I'm sure Shatterstar will understand. She's my aunt! I know I could get her to understand!"

Shatterstar shook her head. "The last time I left the territory was many moons ago, but I did not hunt. It is against the Warrior Code to go outside clan borders unless emergency, on a mission, or if you need to speak with the other clan. I am sorry for the inconvenience, but I did not know about this shortage of prey. Here in the mountains, we have prey, but not as rich as New-Leaf or Green-Leaf." Her eyes burned with a fierceness she had actually been born with. She had once been a loner... Wait! She was once a loner! She knows what this Tom is going through! "I was once a loner, you know. Perhaps you have heard of me. I was called Mercy. I was the fiercest she-cat that ever roamed the forest. I won every fight. I know what you are going through. I had lived like that for a long time. Here, we work together to catch food and everyone gets to eat. Perhaps... You could stay here for a while."
