Hammerpaw nodded, drinking in his mentor's words hungrily like a parched cat. "Wow, you know everything," he meowed in awe.

"I know everything I need to." Tigerfang replied. "Things I should never need to know because they are obscure and specific to the point of impracticality, I didn't bother learning. There is a difference between what is interesting and what is practical, and however boring it may be strive to be practical in what you do, or you will end up incapable of being a real warrior."

Hawkbreeze didn't turn her head to look at her apprentice. "No prey for tomorrow." She murmured. Her paws felt as heavy as stone as she trudged along the path. I'm not sick, and I'm not tire- Her thoughts were cut off as she fell to the ground, unconscious.

Ashpaw shrieked as Hawkbreeze collapsed. "Hawkbreeze!" she yelled in a panic, dashing to her mentor, listening for her vital signs frantically. Her own heart was pounding to loudly for her to hear her mentor's breath and heartbeat, but she placed her paw on Hawkbreeze's chest to feel and put her cheek by her mentor's nose and mouth to feel the air if she was breathing.

Hawkbreeze came to quickly, heart threatening to beat its way right out of her chest. Her fur was burning. The off-white she-cat stood quickly, swaying on stone-heavy paws. Falling back on Ashpaw, she managed to choke out. "Ashpaw, I'm sick. So sick." She then vomited, and let herself fall to the ground again.

Hammerpaw nodded dutifully. "So... what kind of stuff do I not need to know?" he asked. "Like, herbs and that?"

"Besides the normal skills of a warrior, you are going to learn basic politics- how to be a leader even if you aren't chosen for the position, so other cats will look to you when they don't want to look to Rabbitstar- and yes, basic medicine, in case you are ever caught out of camp, injured and alone. Beyond that you really only need to pay attention to current events."

Ashpaw shook her head. "No you aren't. You're never sick. You, you're just tired, right?" Ashpaw asked feebly, using her shoulder to try to prop Hawkbreeze back onto her paws. Admittedly the vomit made her argument weaker but she just didn't want to believe her mentor was sick. "Come on, we should go back to camp so you can lie down and sleep a little."

Hawkbreeze shook her head slowly. "Ashpaw, even medicine cats can get sick. You need to understand that." She mewed, struggling to hold herself up. Wheezing a bit, she continued, "StarClan has abandoned me when I needed them most." She won't understand what I mean. Should I tell her? I don't think she'll believe me, but she has the right to know of my abilities. She thought uneasily.

"Starclan hasn't abandoned us." Ashpaw meowed confidently. "You'll probably be fine tomorrow." She was trying to reassure herself as much as Hawkbreeze when she spoke, as she was very nervous herself.

Hammerpaw nodded. "Will there be a time when he clan doesn't or won't look to Rabbitstar?" he asked. He knew Tigerfang would be leader oneday, Hammerpaw felt that his mentor was a kindred spirit. He'd often felt the clan was weak or soft. But Tigerfang would fix that when he was leader. We'll have to kill Rabbitstar.
