Tigerfang slowed, his ears flicking as he listened for the sounds of prey scuttling across dry leaves. He flicked his tail at Hammerpaw to indicate he should start hunting.

Hammerpaw tasted the air. Mouse. He snuck off after the scent. He paused a tail length from it and then dragged himself across the ground and lunged. He rammed his paw down on the mouse, crushing it.

Tigerfang nodded. "That was very neatly done, Hammerpaw." He mewed. "Bury it and keep going- I'll be watching, though you may not see me."

Hawkbreeze thrust her way out of the medicine den, paws as heavy as stones. Her fur was on fire. I won't let it bother me. I'm not sick! Smile, sound happy and don't drag your paws! The off-white she-cat nudged her apprentice. "Come on, I want to show you some battle moves." She mewed.

Hammerpaw felt his pelt grow hot with pride. With a flick of his paw he'd thrown a soft covering of earth over the mouse. He stalked off after another bit of prey. Despite his size he moved silently through the forest. He'd learnt quickly were he could and couldn't fit. Multiple times he'd gotten his broad shoulders stuck between trees and rocks. He spotted a mouse. As he was stalking it some switch clicked on in his head and he launched at it, ripping it to shreds.

Tigerfang had stealthily followed his apprentice, tracking him down to the kill he made. "Hammerpaw, although you successfully caught this, no one will want to eat this. It's mulch." He pointed out. "Although with enemy cats, shredding is acceptable, we want to catch prey more or less whole."

Hammerpaw's eyes were wide. "I-I don't know what happened!" he meowed, a little fearful. "I-I saw.... I s-saw my f-father and I... I just..." His fur stood on end, his bright yellow eyes wide as saucers. His bloodied claws dug into the ground, his body slightly shaking.

Tigerfang blinked in surprise, not expecting this. He knew the joy of the kill and had thought that was all it was, but this was something else. "Is there something you would like to tell me, Hammerpaw?" He asked, in a shockingly gentle voice, as he sat down close to Hammerpaw.
