Well, better you be out there making use of yourself then sleeping like Firewinds." Jackalstar chuckled a bit, glancing momentarily at the dark tom that complained from somewhere across the camp. "At least tell me you brought back some fresh kill... I think the apprentice has brought back more food then the warriors have been in one morning!" Her tail twitched and the older cat sighed.
"No matter though... why don't you come with Shortpaw and I? Either that or join another patrol before they leave. I don't have the patience for any cat not pulling their weight today, understood?"

Rainstep pulled away from the leader's gathering rather quickly, gesturing for Silverleaf to follow after her with a small smile. "I appreciate the help! Today we'll be gathering some herbs; our juniper berries and goldenrod have gone bad recently." Rainstep purred, focused on the task at hand. Pulling a large leaf from one of her stores as they entered the den, she tugged all the rotten herbs into the long leaf. Skillfully wrapping the vegetation and tucking it neatly into her jaws, she once more gestured to the camp entrance through the opening of the den. "After you," she meowed in a muffled tone, smiling around the package of shriveled herbs.

"Agreed," the dark warrior replied smoothly. The quicker this was over with, the better. If this was a normal border patrol, they wouldn't have to talk. He narrowed his eyes contently. Good. Striding out of the camp quickly, the tom flicked his tail and allowed his dark blue gaze to scan the surrounding area. A huff of boredom quickly escaped his lower jaw within moments of exiting the camp, and he turned his attention towards the eastern side of the border. Perking his ears and keeping silent, he continued towards the border, obviously uncomfortable in the other tom's presence. He'd never been the most fond of this tom; well.. then again, he'd never been fond of anyone in general. He frowned, and shook the thoughts away, trying to focus.

Jackalstar listened as the other cat spoke, nodding her head slightly. "That's fine, but not now." She chided. "There is work to be done... I trust this information isn't urgent?" She tilted her head slightly, surely if whatever Ashfeather had to show her could wait -- she lacked the worrisome look in her eyes that would indicate otherwise.

A low rumble boomed across the sky and a lone drop of water was spit at the she-cat's nose. She twitched her whiskers with discomfort. "I'll see that we have a moment after the patrols have been finished, for now, make yourself useful."

A smudge of black at the corner of her eye told her Ravenclaw and Firewinds had left for their patrol. "Looks like your dallying is costing you options -- you're either with Me, or on hunting duty. Decide quickly, I'm running out of patience."

Shortpaw glared at Ashfeather during the conversation, trying to act like Jackalstar. She remained quiet, interested in the conversation and silently hoping that the She would choose to leave her and the leader alone.
She felt herself jump a little at the sound of the thunder. She tried to hide her annoyance of the weather.

Firewinds could feel the tell-tale feeling of a cat that felt uncomfortable with him. He was all too used to giving cats that feeling. Ignoring it, he stood still and scented the air. Satisfied with the emptiness, he trudged on. He marked a rock and turned to head toward the river, practically ignoring Ravenclaw's presence. He felt a cold raindrop fall square onto the large bald patch on his back.

Rabbittail lead the she-cat a little ways out of camp. He stopped and scented the moist air, quickly picking up the scent of blackbird. Peering around carefully, he spotted the creature huddled on a branch. He quietly stalked toward the tree, racing up it quickly. The bird flapped its wings in alarm, but Rabbittail was faster. He leapt off of the tree trunk and toward the bird, slashing a paw at it. He knocked it to the ground and neatly followed it down, landing on his paws, where the bird landed on its back. He quickly took the killing bite.

Jackalstar nodded at the other cats decision. The camp now was quiet, lacking the presence of the clan cats that had filled it only minutes ago. "Very well." She agreed.
Looking now to Short paw she flicked her tail in gesture for the other two to follow. "Shortpaw, have you ever been across the river?" She mused, padding out of the camp. She knew that the youngster liked to be near the waterfall, but had no idea if she ever ventured further. Most cats would keep their apprentices away from dangerous places like that... but this was Aspenclan -- Jackastar encouraged exploration and a little risk taking, and felt pride when her clan-mates displayed such traits. The young apprentice had drawn a lot of interest from the clan leader. However, her question had little to do with the activity she had in mind.
With the other cats on patrols and hunting, they had to stay alert to any dangers near the camp... not to mention the impending rain was going to cause a load of grief if the dens weren't' buffed.
Jackalstar had to suppress a sigh, but decided to take nostalgia in the task of repairing and strengthening their camp. It, in a small small way, reminded her of her own apprenticeship.

She decided it was better to stay silent, she felt she already irritated her leader and she didn't want to make it worse.

Shortpaw nodded.
"There's a stone at the tip of the falls that I like to be at, and there are stepping stones on either side to get to it." She replied. She knew that this place was considered dangerous to apprentices, and she might not be allowed back there.
"Sorry." She muttered.
"I've only been across once, I swear. I was hunting a bird."

Spottedfire Stopped and tasted the air. She quickly reconized the scent of rabbit and followed it. The Rabbit was nibbling on some grass next to a tall aspen tree. Making sure the wing was away from her, Spottedfire crept up on the rabbit. She was just about to pounce, when one of the branches fell down from the tree. the rabbit started running along a narrow path, Spottedfire streaming behind it. She leaped In the air and brought her paws down hard on the rabbit, and snapped it's neck with its teeth.
