E.J. dropped his gaze. "ai don't see my father very often, and I never met my mother. No one's ever mentioned her.

Maya listened carefully, but she chose not to interject. She could have talked about where she'd grown up in this world, but it wouldn't have been her childhood, not really. So instead she stayed quiet, at least until E.J. mentioned his parents.

"Forgive me if I'm being too personal, but what does your father do that keeps him away so often?"

[Storm the Buizel]

"Pff! This is Sonic the Hedgehog we're talking about!" E.J. snorted. "I guess being his son has drawn a lot of unwanted attention to me, and he didn't want to risk anything."

Maya raised an eyebrow at that. She thought carefully before responding, "All the same, if he was the only one you had, it seems irresponsible to leave you alone so often."

[Storm the Buizel]

"I can take care of myself, besides he left me in the car of a friend before I grew old enough to start my travels."

[Revan]

Willow didn't see too much of a problem with it, since she hadn't been too terribly attached to her parents either. She was more of an adventurous sort, and Sonic the Hedgehog probably had a lot more things going on than just raising a son. "I guess sometimes where you want to be and where you need to be are not the same place."

"I still see Sonic around every now and then, and he's sometimes helped me out on missions."

Maya shrugged nonchalantly. "If you are content, then I have no place to judge." She figured that she had pried enough already, and there was no use making it into an issue.

E.J. soon found the Earth Elemental, and with the help of Super Transformation, and a bit of convincing from him and his slugs, got it. "With any luck we'll be able to keep him away from the Goon." E.J. let out a satisfied snort.

Spotting an opportunity to touch on a topic she had been wondering about for a while, Maya spoke. "Hey, about that. This Goon already has two of the elementals, right? Doesn't that mean we'll have to track him down at some point?"
