As they arrived at the river, he lowered his head and lapped up a few swallows of the cool water before sitting back up and clearing his throat awkwardly. "Scarlettfeather..." he muttered. Akbadain wrote:Nightpelt winced as if the she-cat's words had hurt him. It was obvious she truly had feelings for him. But, the confused tom wasn't certain of his own feelings. "You know I take my position as Medicine Cat very seriously..." he murmured. "I devote all my time to it. I had little room for much else..." He was trying to turn her away from him. To deny her by making himself seem less desirable. Scarlettfeather deserved better; a cat who could fawn over her every step. He could not be that cat.

Akbadain wrote:"I ask because..." Nightpelt began to answer, his voice trailing off. He took a moment before finishing. "I don't know how I feel." She had only said she knew when he told her what he had. But... if she knew then why was she pursuing him so? Where was the sense in that? Then, again... why had he decided to follow her out to that river and ask her those questions? Could it be possible he thought he returned her feelings? He had been thinking her kittish all this time for directing her affections toward him, but perhaps he was equally kittish.
