Eagleheart flicked Dreamdust's nose with his tail. "Why so glum? We're the best team around." He mewed, smiling.

Phoenixstar nodded. "But what would I tell the kits? How would I explain that their mother is..." He moved his head in the direction of Dappletail's nest but didn't look. He sat down, his shoulders slumped, head lowered. "Oh Shinningpool," he meowed. "You're such a good medicine cat." The smile was forced but the words were heartfelt.

If only you knew... Shiningpool thought. "I only do what I was trained to do by Silentleap. And if they ask, and only if they ask, just tell them that their mother is very tired and needs to sleep for a while, and we don't know when she'll wake up." She meowed comfortingly. "When they're old enough to understand, then explain it to them if they still want to know."

Twistedheart laughed. "It's good to feel this way again. So powerful!" He mewed joyfully. "Battle training?" He asked.

Dreamdust looked at him, "Sorry just.. Lot of things on my mind." Shaking the negativity off, she purred, "Race you back to camp!"

Bluetempest nodded, her silky fur glimmering in the dawn light.

Phoenixstar nodded. "Okay, but who will care for them? We have no other queens."

"You're on!" He meowed, bounding away towards camp happily. He looked back to make sure she wasn't gaining on him.

Right... and I don't have any more milk after all that parsely... that would be a terrible idea anyway... Shininpool looked thoughtful for a minute. "They're getting old enough that they could start to eat prey, if they were watched and took only very small bites... maybe some pre-chewed, if they're not squeamish..." She frowned, worried.
