"I have to say that I like it very much." Blackpaw sounded as if she were talking to herself rather than to Foxpaw. "It makes me feel peaceful."

" I was born with straight parents. My mother fell in a Twoleg 'sinkhole' and died the day I became an apprentice, which scarred me for life. My father was constantly pressuring me to do my best. I was constantly teased for how tall I was. But things are started to look up now. But I would really like to have kits one day."
What are your dreams?
"Like I said, to one day have kits and a mate. But I would also like to be deputy one day

Blackpaw lay there in quietude. After a while, she pushed herself to her paws and returned to the edge of the stream, where she got another drink and managed to catch a fish as well. It was rather small, nothing extraordinary, but Blackpaw studied it as if it was the most interesting thing in the world.

Blackpaw flicked her tail in acknowledgement but said nothing. She bent closer to the fish to get a better look at it.
