"Oh." Woodpaw couldn't keep the disappointment out of his voice. "I don' think Alleypaw likes us," he mumbled.

Milkflower sighed and climbed up the tree to sit by her daughter. "Mothkit, honey, please understand. Sunfire's kits do not have a mother to care for them, and so I volunteered to do so in her place. This does not mean that you and your brothers are any less important to me; it only means that I have more little ones to look after."

Mothkit looked at her paws, "What happened to their mother?"

Timberfoot leapt down from the tree and started to walk in another direction.

Skypool lingered in the trees a moment, debating how foolish it would be to follow. Instead she climbed the tree that he'd been in and perched on the same branch.
