“Patrol?” Spottedpaw repeated and leisurely got to her paws with a yawn. “Great!” she meowed and bounded tiredly out of the den, attempting to blink the sleep from her eyes.

(Sorry, my mom got lost and ended up getting me lost. So I was like "Let's cut through here." And she said, "Nah." So I just started going down and she followed me. ANNNNDDDDD it led to the right path. Boom.)

Gingershade led her to where the patrol was gathered up. "Ok, let's go," she meowed rather quietly. She walked through the exit and headed toward the first scent-marker spot. Leaves were falling from the trees, Gingershade absolutely hated it. Why couldn't it be green-leaf forever? A pile of leaves rustled and Gingershade stiffened. A mouse appeared, nibbling on a cob nut. She nudged Spottedpaw to get the apprentice's attention. "Show me your hunting skills," she whispered.

Spottedpaw was walking a short length behind Gingershade's flank and her eyes traveled around the forest, taking in all of the beautiful sights. She had only ever been out of the camp a few times, and she loved it. There was so much to see and so much to do.

"W-what?" the young she-cat paused to looked at the small pray animal and tried to process her mentor's words. "Erm.... ok..." she whispered and fell down into a crouch. Crawling forward, her black pupils grew large as they focused on the mouse. She waited for the right moment and darted for it. She unsheathed her claws and reached for the mouse but missed it by an inch. The only thing she managed to actually do was graze its tail. "Drat!" she hissed.

"You'll do better next time," Gingershade reassured and continued on. The shade of the trees overhead almost felt somewhat refreshing. Her tail swaying back and forth in the air, she caught sight of another mouse. Gingershade nudged Spottedpaw once more, "Try once more."

“Y-yeah…” Spottedpaw sighed and continued on with the walk. How embarrassing. She had a chance to impress her mentor and she blew it. Luckily for her, her chance came again. Try once more… she heard Gingershade meow and Spottedpaw nodded. “I won’t miss this time,” she meowed under her breath and eyed the small creature. She did exactly as she did last time. When she was ready to pounce, she bent lower then she had before and launched her body forward with impressive speed. The mouse scrambled away when it caught sight of her but she was too fast. With one fatal hit, the mouse was crushed against the ground. “HA!” she shouted and wiggled her tail with excitement.

Duskstep was happy for the apprentice. Her skills were great, but she still had room for improvements. The tom looked around the forest with his yellow eyes and he took in all of the scents that were near. His nose twitched when he caught a familiar scent and he slunk up beside Gingershade, “I think we should check up near Lone Maple,” he recommended.

"S-s-sure," Gingershade stammered in reply to Duskstep. Letting Duskstep take the lead, Gingershade slowed down so her apprentice could catch up. "That was a brilliant catch," she purred.

Spottedpaw nodded and purred a bit. She had the mouse clamped between her jaws and its long tail dangled from left and right. "Ill take this back for the clan," she thought happily.

Duskstep headed towards Lone Maple, the scent of other cats filled his nose. Rock Clan cats and…. Soul Clan? Both their scents were fresh. It was more than strange. Why were cats from both clans this close to Maple Clan’s territory? “Gingershade….” He called the she-cat. “Do you smell that?” he asked in a serious tone.
