Spottedpaw hesitantly stepped onto the fallen tree and inched forward; getting more and more nervous the further she went. “You’re almost there Spottedpaw,” she whispered to herself to try and stay calm.

Brokenpaw glanced back at Spottedpaw. "Its okay" he said softly, noticing she seemed tense.

“No need to worry about me Brokenpaw~!” she squeaked, keeping her eyes glued to the tree. “Don’t take too long you two,” Duskstep called from the other side of the small gorge. His golden optics watched the two like a hawk. One slip and he was ready to rush over and help them. Besides that, there was a faint scent of blood that he could just barely pick up due to the rain.

Tinypaw-Talking to: ... Thinking: "I failed again..."

Tinypaw shivered, the rain trickling down her pelt. She stared at the ground, the bottom and top half of her vision black and her right eye's vision blurry with red from the blood. The right side of her face throbbed as she attempted to step forward but her legs buckled beneath her and she collapsed. She lied on the floor, legs sprawled out across the mud and a small pool of blood by her cheek. She struggled to her paws again, legs stretched to the sides beneath her. Her head sank into her shoulders, her eyes half closed.

Brokenpaw nodded, looking around with his brown eyes. Quietly, once he reached the end of the trunk, he leaped off anfd landed on the ground next to Duskstep, now waiting for Spottedpaw.

Spottedpaw was almost at the end when she slipped. She slid down sideways on the moist wood and dug her claws deep into the bark to catch herself. On instinct she reached her dangling hind legs back up onto the tree and hurled herself onto the wet ground. Her heart was beating fast and her fur bristled with fear. “Are you alright Spottedpaw?” Duskstep asked, surprised that she hadn’t fallen completely. “I-I’m good,” she stuttered.

Brokenpaw's eyes got wide when he saw Spottedpaw slip, but he sighed in relief when he saw her make her way back up. "That was close!" He exclaimed.

“See, no need to worry about me,” Spottedpaw chuckled, trying to catch her breath. “Alright, let’s keep going. We don’t have the time to rest now,” Duskstep told them and continued on their path to Squirrels leap. The rain was still in a calm state of drizzle, but it could become heavier at any second.

The young apprentice continued to walk, fluffing his fur for warmth. The rain made him slightly cold, but he ignored it. Nothing would stop him from going to Squirrels Leap.

The closer they got to their destination, the stronger the scent of blood became. Duskstep snuck glanced at the two apprentices to see if they noticed, but it didn’t seem so. The tom paused and lifted his nose up towards the sky, taking in all of the surrounding scents. It was hard to catch much of anything because of the rain, but suddenly he recognized the bloody scent. “Tinypaw?” he whispered. “Tinypaw!” he yowled, hoping to catch the apprentice’s attention if she was around.
