"He's not leader, you mousebrain!" Stonekit squeaked. "Dad is!"

"No, Stonekit." Tigerheart mewed. "Dawnstar."

Brookkit looked at her sheathing claws, "what are ya' doing?"

Rainkit gasped, "awesome! She gets a whole den to herself! What's a deputy?" He smiled at Stonekit, "daddy is leader?! I thought he was deputy, whatever that is."

"Your dad is deputy. He sends outa patrols and works directly for Dawnstar. When she dies, he'll be leader." Tigerheart explained.

"Leaders don't die," Rainkit squeaked, "they just come back to life after."

"They have nine lives." Tigerheart mewed. "They can come back eight times, the last time they're gone."

"Why can't everyone have nine lives?" Stonekit squeaked.

Rainkit nodded in agreement, "yea! That isn't fair! StarClan should give every cat a chance."

"A leader has nine lives is they can lead their Clan better in each life. Maybe they use the live of compassion first, and they lose it. Now they are on the life of courage, but they know how to be compassionate, see?"
