Xena fought to keep her emotions in check; she wouldn't want to do that in front of Dumir again, although his sister did deserve it. She had the aura of being rude. Perhaps she was rude so much the stench of a rude creature gave up staying away and decided to follow her around. Xena half-smiled at the slightly confusing joke in her head, imagining the image of a slender striped and slightly spotted Toyger with golden eyes in a stink cloud, her trying to fight it off tooth and claw, but the brown gas following her to no avail.
How odd-she hadn't made jokes before. Xena had usually just taken everything literally, and other cats had stopped attempting to make her laugh a long time ago. Frequently, she had either been confused at someone's attempt at a joke-why did they make no sense? Or she had been offended by someone's sarcasm. It was possible, she reasoned, that she could be getting more relaxed with Dumir, letting other aspects of her character show that she hadn't been able to illustrate while keeping a formal pose with other cats. In fact, that had to be it. She simply couldn't-and didn't want to- think of anything else that would be a reason for that.
The Ocicat saw the relationship between the cat-she noted that she had a name, it was Suriana, but why she wasn't using it Xena didn't know- and Dumir. It didn't seem that they were the usual brother and sister. Suriana obviously thought she was in a higher position than Dumir, and flaunted that. Dumir didn't look like he liked her much-but perhaps this wasn't an everyday thing, the way they had just treated each other. It didn't seem like she was, the shock on her face testified to that.
She quickly grasped that Dumir had apologized again. But he was wrong, it wasn't his fault. It was hers, she was new. Once more, he had blamed himself.
No, I believe it is my fault.
She paused for a moment, thinking, and then speaking a tad quieter than usual, told Dumir her observation.
You seem to have quite a relationship with Suriana, though.
