Canis
Canis sat down beside her, watching the horizon turn a soft, pink. He sighed. "Talk to him. Shadow is the son of Death, but also his shadow." He said, glancing at Starling. "He shares the same blood and the same temper. Both are dangerous, and yet Shadow is also himself. Imagine what it's like to constantly be compared to someone your not." his eyes hardened slightly, remembering when he was a kit. He was hated all because his father was disliked.
He sighed. "He loved you. But that doesn't give him the right to claim you as his. You are yours and yours alone. No one should control you. Those kits in your belly? They are yours." He said, softly placing a paw on her stomach. he could feel them as well. It was what had let him know when they had first met that she had had a new lover while he was gone. "You will raise them however you wish. Just keep in mind, whatever you do for them, will affect what they become." He said, watching her carefully. He sighed and turned away, lying down. Her small frame was dwarfed by his large, wolfish one. A comforting warmth emitted from him.
"There was this pup, back at my pack." He said quietly, his voice barely a whisper. "Her name was Bird. She had the grayest of pelts I had ever seen, and the cutest blue eyes. She hated everyone. She avoided everyone and never spoke a word. Everyone thought she would die." He smiled slightly. "Then one day, I saved her. She had fallen into a human well. Unable to climb out, she was left down there, whimpering. I told her to climb into the bucket and I began to reel her up with that strange tool on the well. When she was safe, she went up to me, trembling, and told me her name."
He sighed. "She never talked because she was afraid. Afraid everyone hated her because she was an outcast. A mutt. Her father had been a lone wolf. It had been treasonous, what her mother had done. She was terrified of being left alone, and yet terrified of talking with others. Through her, I learned what a parent can do to a child simply by an unconscious act." Canis looked at her and smiled. "She became the beta of the pack after a while. She's amazing. Strong, fair, and beautiful. And she understands better than most. But she still has that fear in her heart." Canis said.
