Redpaw opened his eyes and looked around. He could see nothing but thick smoke. Gasping, coughing, panting, searching for air, Redpaw tried to get scents of his Clanmates, but couldn't. The smoke was to thick, and near him, he could see the flicking red light of the fire.

Hawkstar coughed up more water. Dustface reached her and gasped.
"Hawkstar!!" He shouted. But the words blurred together as Hawkstar life slowly slipped away.

Redpaw knew his time was up, the smoke circled around him. He decided to give it one more chance.
"Help me!" he wailed.

Dovemist coughed and tried to scent the air, but regretted it when he throat stung from the smoke. She took Ravenpaw by the scruff and hurried off farther away from the fire. She heard a cry from help and she followed the voice.

Redpaw saw no-one. He lay his head down on his paws and waited for StarClan to reach down and take him.

Dovemist eventually reconized the scent through all the smoke, "Redpaw!" she called out, trying to locate where he was.

Redpaw opened his eyes and lifted his head. Did he just hear a voice. He cried out "Hel-
" but choke on the deadly smoke. Suddenly a tree near him burst into flames. Redpaw yelped and stood up, pelting through the trees. Suddenly he bowled over a cat.

Hawkstar slowly oppened her eyes to find herself in StarClans hunting grounds.
"Hawkstar," Her mother, FAwnleaf, called from one side of the clearing.
"You've lost you first life." Hawkstar bowed her head and waited for her body to recover.

"Hawkstar!" Dustface yowled as Hawkstar slowly opened her eyes.
"Dustface! Is every cat out of camp?" Dustface nodded and Hawkstar slowly got up.
"Ok, tell every cat to report to the lake. I'll start building a temporary camp."

Dovemist yelped in surprise when Redpaw bowled into her, "Redpaw?" she said, recovering quickly and sniffing the terrified apprentice.
