"Ok, lets go!" Scarletpaw said excitedly. The small apprentice then bounced to the enterance and out into the forest.

Daybreak rolled her eyes in amusement, quite entertained at Scarletpaw's obvious enthusiasm towards the small hunt. "Well alright then," she purred, flicking an ear and padding out after her.

"When you cry, all of the bad escapes but always finds its way back in."

Scarletpaw glanced back at Daybreak and gave excited smile. She smelt vole. The small apprentice then dopped into a hunter's crouch and stalked forward until she came to a clearing. She saw the plump little vole scuffling in a patch of grass. Scarletpaw prepared heself, wabbling back and forth on her haunches, she leaped. It was perfect. She was gliding through the air, paws square over the target, but as she was about to land, "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" she yowled. Her paws didn't touch the ground, and something was digging into her back. When she looked up, "Hawk!"

Daybreak felt as if she was paralyzed, like her paws were being weighed down to the ground with fifty-pound weights. Then she realized- the hawk had also been going for the vole when Scarletpaw had jumped over it. Not even taking a second to think, she leapt forward, unsure what she was doing but doing it anyway. She missed the hawk's back by a few mouse-lengths but managed to snag her claws into its wings.

The Hawk squaked and manged to throw off the other cat. It started to go higher as Scarletpaw yowled, "Help me! Get on it's back! It'll weigh it down!" She could tell that Daybreak was paniced, so she tried to help as much as she could, because she knew she was her only ticket out of this and Scarletpaw believed she could, with the help of starclan.

Daybreak landed on the ground with a soft, "thud", but she brushed it off with a violent shake of her head and rose to her paws once again. She leapt again, applying all the pressure on her hind legs and bunching her tense muscles, then releasing and springing upwards so she landed on its back. She stumbled, but dug her claws into its feathers and kept hold.

The hawk screeched and dropped the small apprentice. Scarletpaw yowled and hit a low branch before she hit the ground. The she-cat lay there unmoving. The hawk, being dragged down because of the weight, flew into a tree trying to shake Daybreak off.

Daybreak bared her fangs in a snarl as she heard the soft "thud" of the small apprentice's impact on the ground, not casting a glance down at her for the risk of losing her focus on the hawk. She dug her claws into it's dense feathers further until she reached the skin, and as she felt blood begin to seep through and stain her fur, she leapt down onto the ground beside the apprentice.
