((Stupid Shades, always confusing me with their twisted plot and minds and crazy riddles... *grumblemutter*))
((And it's funny, because nobody cares that Rose is dead except Briar and maybe Kecil xD))
Briar set Patch down at Rusa's feet, saying "Keep an eye on him for a moment, please. And somebody fetch Luna- I want to make sure he's not sick." The black wolf picked up the rose and went outside. He crossed the river using the fallen tree for a bridge, and headed for the Spires. Standing on the rock that he had jumped from, he looked down, remembering the despair and loneliness he had felt the last time he stood here. Placing the rose by his feet, he tore it to shreds using his claws and fangs. A red, sticky nectar oozed from the crushed and slashed petals, pooling on the ground like blood. Snow-rose nectar was food for the spirits, and he felt them now. He couldn't tell who they were, but they crowded forwards, begging soundlessly for a sip of the nectar. Briar growled fiercely, and they fell back. "Reaper!" he shouted, making his voice rise over the wind. "I've solved your riddle. My sister is dead, because of you, and the rose destroyed. Bring Iris back." The shadowy wolf stepped forwards and lapped up part of the rose's lifeblood, then looked up at Briar with angry eyes. "Very well." He vanished with a puff of smoke that blew off towards the caves. Before the other spirits could crowd in, Briar called, softly, "Rose, and Luka. Are you here?" The Shades vanished as a white shape, intertwined with a black-and-white shape, stepped forwards to drink. The nectar filled them out, made them look more... real. More there. Although she couldn't touch him, Briar felt Rose's spirit as if she had brushed against him. Luka was there, too, standing respectfully off to one side. "Briar," said Rose, "Don't mourn for me. I am happy now, in death, as I never was. There is no-one here to hate me, to call me names, or to spit on the ground at my feet. I am with the wolf I love, even if he's not you." She smiled softly at him, then her face became proud. "But if a battle ever arises, and you are outnumbered and without hope, call on us. We will aid you." Luka bowed slightly to Briar, saying, "You were a good leader. I respected you greatly. Continue to judge without prejudice, to be kind and caring." Briar nodded, stunned but not sad. Rose was right- she would be happier now. Luka closed his eyes, and a picture appeared before him. It showed five wolves, ones that looked oddly familiar. One was dark brown, another gray-white. One was white speckled with black, a fourth thundercloud-silver, and the last, white with a black patch over one eye, black paws and ears. "Your pups, and ours, will grow up strong, brave, wise, kind, fierce, and loyal to the end." The wind picked up, now, and the shapes tore and blew away as if they had never existed. Rose's voice remained for a few seconds, comforting him. "Raise Patch as if he were your own. I will always love you. Never forget us, but remember to dwell not in the past but in the present."
