Luna finished with Evvy's leg just as she heard Briar call her name. He sounded fearful, panicky. "Keep an eye on her, please." she said to Tal, rubbing her face against his. Then she whispered, "And thank you." Then she turned and ran to where Briar was sitting next to Iris. She could hear the squeaks of frightened and hungry pups from inside a nearby cave. "What's wrong with her?" the black wolf fretted, as Luna inspected Irirs. "She's taken several deep wounds, but blood loss can't account for this... this breathlessness."
Izzy put his paws next to Rusa's, placing his head lightly on top of hers, in a wolf version of a soft hug. "So do I," he whispered, "but there are things to do, yet."
Blaze sighed, and if he could have put his head in his paws, he would have. "I know I shouldn't," he told her, confidentially, "but it's just... urrgh. I shouldn't have let this happen, and I won't get lucky a second time. If it happens again, somebody might die."
