Briar shrugged again. "It's one or two against twelve. How much harm can they do?"

Iris sighed. "Briar, I doubt it's just two." She said.

Briar turned thoughtful and anxious very quickly. "We'll have to post guards at all entrances, then, and find a way to create a bolt hole in case we ever need one."

"Briar, if we put up guards that's bad, not good." iris replied.

"Why/" asked Briar, terribly confused. "How could guarding this place be a bad thing? If we are prepared, then nothing like this will ever happen again."

"That doesn't work anymore. It shows them we're vulnerable and wary. That's the exact thing they can pinpoint and use to their advantage." iris said.

"Ah, but there's where I think you're wrong. Guards are not a sign of vulnerability- in fact, if picked and trained properly, they can be our best strength. Have you ever heard the saying, 'the best offense is a good defense'?"n

Iris flicked her tail. "Okay, do whatever you want."

Briar nodded and slipped out of the den, padding along the hallways quietly, in case they were being spied on. He whispered in Izzy's ear, and Blaze's, and even went so far as to give Luka a duty, guarding the bolt hole. It was a small tunnel that wound around the crystal cave and out the back way, into the forest. Blaze would guard the main entrance, Izzy the secondary entrance a bit down the cliff, and Rose would patrol the cliffs, watching for intruders. Briar himself would find ways to make himself useful, relieving sentries here and there.

Iris sighed softly and went back to sleep.

Rusa and mystery left, wandering around together.
