"I...I...I-" She squeaked before the coward that seemed to live in her heart took over, and she crumpled into a ball, eyes forced close, head down. "Please don't hurt me." The whisper was so quiet had the wind been blowing no one would have heard. Beetlepelt lacked confidence in a big way.

Copperwhisker swept her tail over her kits, pulling them closer and covering them in warm fur. Looking up to Darkcloud, eyes shining, she pressed her nose into his thick ruff.

Fogmask nodded, a distance in his eyes. 'I'm... I'm going to a father. To kits that aren't mine. And 'mate' to a she-cat that leaves me guessing about her feelings. Way to be a hero.' The final thought was sarcastic and biting. Feeling the smaller body press against him, he lowered his eyes. "Are you alright? And I'm mean like really ok?"

"I'm scared." She admitted, she wasn't a cat to get scared easily and this, the thought of being a mother and knowing she'd be lying to them the second they where born tor at her fragile heart. "And I know I'm hurting you, I've hurt Goosecall and I'm hurting these innocent kits more." SHe whispered the tears stinging behind her eyes.

Darkcloud purred gently as he rasped his tongue delicately over her long ginger fur. "Such beautiful little kits because of a stunning mother." He murmured gently.

Resting his muzzle on her head, Fogmask purred, letting the vibration travel from him to her. Closing his eyes, the tom exhaled slowly. "I have a feeling Goosecall is fine. Or he will be. You aren't hurting him. He just isn't a cat to know how to handle his emotions." The words brought a slight to smile to his split face. Fogmask couldn't say he was the best either, tending to rash decisions. "I..." His voice broke and he had to pause before starting again. "I'm fine. I offered myself up. And I meant it. I will be the father of your kits Sootrain. And I will be your... your mate for as long as you want or need me."
Withdrawing his head, his paw slipped under her chin, raising her face to look at him. Tail curling around, he ran it down her cheek slowly, ready to wipe away any tears that might spill. "I was serious when I said I want you to be happy." His words were soft, his expression one of utter seriousness.

"Oh hush you." Copperwhisker pawed at him playfully, trying not to wake the slumbering kits. Beaming up at him, she purred, "As soon as they are old enough, I want to go for a walk. Alright?"

he purred softly, "Of course my little flame:" he murmured softly, "I'm sure sootrain could get practice by watching them for us." He noted though still unsettled by the whole matter.

Sootrain couldn't help but let a small smile curl at her mouth, sky blue eyes shining. "I know and hope to grow and love you one day Fogmask." She murmured softly as guilty tears slowly ram down her slim face

Wiping away the tears on one side, then the other, Fogmask rasped his tongue between the silky ears. "No more tears. They'll stain that pretty face of yours." He whispered to her. He knew that there was no going back, and that everything might not turn out in his favor but... Well he wanted to try. And even if she never loved him, his adoration and love for her would never cease. Knowing that, and accepting it, Fogmask felt himself thrust into the friendzone let Sootrain settle into him, their nearly opposite pelt contrasting as the fur mingled.

Copperwhisker felt her mate's agitation and heaved a sigh, amber eyes looking up into his yellow ones. "Maybe she could..." Burying her face deep in his chest, she inhaled deeply. "The whole Sootrain thing is bugging you." It wasn't a question, it was a statement.

Heronflight raised an eyebrow in confusion. "Why would I harm my clanmate?" the lazy white tom questioned blankly. He stuck out a paw, somewhat as a peace offering. "Um, shall we go?" he repeated.

Sootrain purred softly as she nuzzled into him though she still felt tr pain she knew she was causing. She did hope one day she could learn to love this daring young Tom.

Beetlepelt uncurled slightly, suspicion written all over her face. In her moons since being her, she still hadn't adjusted to the fact that these cats didn't attack each other... or at least the weaker ones. Every time she saw a clanmate approach her brain replaced it with one of her old tormentors, sending her down a dark path of horror. Taking a shaky breath, she let her ears come forward as she got up onto her paws, skirting around Heronflight in a large arc. The fact that she was moving was a big accomplishment in itself.

'I'll let myself be content with this for now. Take what you can get, right?' He let his head fall to the lining of the nest, fox fur gently tickling his nose every time he took a breath.
