Thunderbelly smiled as she selected a piece of prey. That smile quickly broaden at the questions she asked. Thunderbelly was somewhat of a lore-lover, he had spent his days as a kit with the elders, soaking up whatever they would offer him. "Oh dear, my name. That's a story. So I'll start off with the basics first. Our names go through stages. When a kit is born the parents choose the first part of their name, whether it be 'Red,' 'Raven,' 'Bumble', or in my case, 'Thunder.' There really is no method to those selections, sometimes it has to do with pelt color, more often than not its things the parents like or are reminded of when they see the little furballs. At that point they are a 'kit. That is to represent they are too young to train and still in the care of the queens. Queens being the mothers of course. Anyways, once a kit hits six moons they are made a 'paw, which we call apprentices.
A warrior is selected as a mentor, and the name evolves. Once this young cat has shown they are competent in all areas a warrior needs to be they are then given the second half of their name by the leader. The second half often has to do with either appearance or actions that represent that cat. It basically comes down to the thoughts of the parents when they see their kit and the characteristics the leader sees in the cat." The chocolate warrior felt himself heating up as he realized he had been rambling. It was a bad habit of his.
"My name specifically? I was named Thunderkit because I was so large, my mother saw power in me. The 'belly... well that's been a running joke in the clan since I was a few moons old. You see... when I get hungry my stomach... well it protests... loudly... like loud enough for everyone to hear. I thought it was as funny as everyone else did until my warrior ceremony. My leader gave me my name and it took a me a moment to register what had just happened. My back was greeted with full out laughter as my clanmates tried and failed to chant my new name. I was embarrassed at first, but now... I don't mind it at all. It was more than a joke. I realized that it also represents my good humor. The leader knew I couldn't even be bitter about that."
"Others have... Toms just assume I'm desperate, and I'm not." Her ears flicked back as she noticed the hurt expression. "I'm... I'm sorry. I'm not trying to offend you, but young love... it made me wary."
