Sharkwave sat out on the beach as was usual for him but he was in a foul mood today. StarClan was mocking him, he was sure of it. Why was it taking so long for a she-cat to see how great he was? There were plenty of good looking she-cats in the clan, even some that were well within his standards for a mate but none seemed interested in him. He didn't understand it and that annoyed him. He was perfect in every way, he was strong, beautiful and an excellent hunter. Everything a she-cat should want in a mate. So why did not of them court him?
There was only one mated paring in the clan right now and that was Koiflame and Morningrain. He would never have picked Morningrain as a mate for all that she was a nice enough she-cat, she just didn't live up to his standards. He sighed but she was the only she-cat in the clan with a mate right now. Maybe he should ask her? Why none of the she-cats took much interest in him. She would probably know but what if she didn't? He would reveal a weakness to her and she might spread it around.
He sat quietly for a moment, watching the waves come in and out. Should he have it spread around the clan that he was looking to settle down? Maybe there were she-cats interested but were to intimidated to approach him. He smiled, that had to be it. They were just afraid of his rejection. Why hadn't he seen that earlier? It was so obvious. He got to his paws. It was time to see Morningrain, she was the only one that would be in camp all day. She was far too close to giving birth to go wandering and she'd probably enjoy the company and he'd accomplish what he wanted done.
He happily walked back to camp, picking his paws up to keep sand of them as much as possible, making him appear to be prancing. He waved his tail to the departing patrols and made his way to the nursery. Sitting down just outside of the nursery, he called, "Morningrain, are you awake?" He didn't really care if she was or not, she would be now and Morningrain rarely showed any angry and only mild annoyance. He wasn't afraid she'd be mad. "I'd like to talk with you." He said waiting, impatiently for the she-cat to answer and emerge.
