Yewstar chuckled before taking a bite of fish and chewing it before putting it down in front of the kits.
"Eat, little ones. You must keep up your strength to swim across the river." he said before taking another bite of fish and swallowing it.

Blackkit pounced on the bit of fish Yewstar had given her, swallowing the yummy food.

Ashkit to a tentative sniff before finding that the fish smelled great, biting into it.

Whitekit took a huge chomp of fish, swallowing it noisily before wandering over to the fish carcass and ripping off another bite, leaving the chewed-up meat for Goldenkit.

"My clan." Yewstar said, a troubled look coming into his eyes.
"I'm not sure what I should do. My deputy, Lastsight, is ready to become leader, and I want to lead a normall warrior life. But i'm not sure I can face my clanmates again. You see, I left without telling anyone where I was going. If I show up with just these kits, they will think I broke the warrior code by having kits with a cat from another clan. But thats not true. I'm afraid that even if I explain how I came to be the guardian of these kits, they won't believe me. I need a mate in order to return. So far I haven't had much luck, though." he said, for the first time seeing how hopeless his situation was.

*yew looked past him and across the river then back to yewstar* it is your choice to retire...............And you must stand your ground. If someone suspects you of something you didn't do you tell them and don't let them speak again. Your a leader, you should know that

Yewstar smiled. "You're right, Yew. Thanks. I think i'll take your advice." he said, getting up.
"Its been lovely staying with you....." he hinted, sad that he had to be leaving so soon. But Blackkit was yawning, and if they were ever going to make it to camp before she fell asleep they would have to leave right away.

"Come on young ones." he chided, nudging Whitekit to his paws.

Blackkit yawned, her pink tongue curling. "Where are we going dada?" she said, blinking her sleepy blue eyes.
"We're going to swim across the river." Yewstar replied, picking Blackkit up by her scruff and plunking her down in the shallow water.
"Brrrr! It's freezing!" she complained, lifting one paw gingerly out of the water.

Yewstar hesitated. It would do no good for the kits to freeze. Plus, he didn't think they could make it all the way across. Sighing, he picked Blackkit up in his jaws before leaping into the cold river, his powerful strokes surging through the water. Before long he had reached the other side. Scooping a small den in the dirt, he placed the shivering Blackkit in the impression. The night had quickly turned cold. Hurriedly he returned to the far back, taking Whitekit up by the scruff and repeating the process. Finally only Ashkit was left on Yew's side of the river.

"Is there any chance you would come with me?" Yewstar asked Yew, blushing.

Goldenkit followed Yewstar, his eyes blind in the mist, he was the eldest of his siblings and he would not allow any of them to get hurt. The tom flicked his ears and stayed close to the other three kits.

Ashkit padded after his siblings and the two 'yews' he was better at sensing things then his brother and his small paws led hsim saftly through the fog. He sat beside the river his eyes drooping slightly, but he kept them open determined not to be the first one to get tired.

((that's fine with me ^^ sorry. I couldn't find any writing that said he'd been taken. I prefer Whitekit and Blackkit anyway >.<))

Blackkit yawned, she wasn't to proud to admit she was tired and cold. "Yewstar!" she complained, shivering. "I'm cold and hungry."
