long ago, there was a group of cats, led by the fearless and loving former clan cat known as Brightsong and later Brightstar. The homeless band of loners, half-starved and defenseless, travelled the land in search for a new place to call home. Armed only with her wits and the knowledge of clan life she had learned from her home clan, Brightsong persisted in the face of many harsh winters across a cold, desolate land. When all seemed just about lost, the came across the land now known as Brightclan territory. The land was a rich beauty, unique and special in it's own way and perfect in the eyes of the Brightclan cats. Consisting of a tall mountainous region, that wraps in a wide half-moon shape around a small lake, and a wide field at the mountain base. The far border of the territory is shaped by a pine forest, one that seemingly completes the circle started by the mountains; it also shields the paradise of Brightclan from outsiders' view. Being the only clan in the area, Brightclan has a vast territory that includes all of the previously mentioned geographic assest; to travel from any one point of the border across takes a total of half a day and should not be done alone. The camp itself is situated at the bottom of the mountains, where a large hollowed out cave with smaller branching tunnels, perfect for dens, lies just a short walk up the mountain side.
Even though the land is always cold, and the warm days are far and few between, the cats of Brightclan thrive. They have adapted to have thicker coats, and only few possess the short-hair trait. Their only fault is that they often struggle for food in the snow season, when eating two times daily like they do will leave the freshkill hoard barren and sad-looking. But never fear, they survived so far without a hitch and will continue to live on. Each cat who calls Brightclan their home are proud of their clan's secluded life and are more than happy to hunt and defend it.

♛ Brightclan is a semi-advanced/literate clan; i would appreciate if everyone would type at least 3-5 sentences per character (more is definitely encouraged!) and keep errors to a minimum, in my experience good writing keeps clans alive c; also no text talk, please
♛ each user is only allowed up to four characters, and you cannot be your own cat's mate/apprentice/mentor/etc
♛ no mary/gary sues; nobody is perfect and that goes for your character as well
♛ if it's not in the books, it's not allowed here. that goes for cats with non-realistic fur colors/patterns and eye color. No wings or special powers unless it is given through prophecy (this will rarely happen)
♛ try to keep genders even
♛ drama in the clan is a definite must! there's never been such a thing as a group of people who get along 100% of the time, and it adds to the story if your cat has some enemies in the clan. although please refrain from power-playing and controlling the situation; let people have a say in their character's actions
♛ don't create major plot points without talking it through with me first. most likely, your suggestion will be put into a poll and voted on
♛ forms and ooc belong on the discussion thread
♛ only one high rank per person. this is going to be a very progressive clan, and most likely you'll end up getting your chance to play a high rank
♛ no repeating prefixes (ie. Flamepelt & Flamewhisker would not be allowed to be in this clan at the same time, but Flamepelt and Firewhisker would) but also only up to three cats in the clan can have the same suffix
♛ queens may have no more than three kits at a time
♛ i reserve the right to change anything that i see to be unfit for this clan

[ starclan visits ]
because their original leader, Brightstar, came from a broken clan with Starclan customs, she brought that tradition with her when she traveled to create Brightclan. Albeit changed slightly from a normal clan's custom, to better suit their secluded lifestyle, Brightclan does have a Starclan. Every full-moon, the leader, medicine cat, and medicine cat apprentice travel to the farthest eastern border of the mountain territory and share tongues with Starclan in a little pool-filled cave; this is where they get prophecies. Starclan will sometimes visit the medicine cat in their dreams, but not as often as they do for the four clans by the lake. Brightclan leaders also don't receive nine lives when they become leader of the clan, and have one life like every other cat in the clan.
[ apprentice ceremonies ]
when a kit turns six moons old, they get their apprentice names, just like in the original clans. However, they do not get their mentors right away and instead spend their first whole day out of camp with the clan leader. Brightclan believes that it is the job of the leader to pass on knowledge of the territory to apprentices, and the job of a mentor to teach the apprentices how to use the territory to their advantage. Only after they return at dusk will the apprentices receive their mentors.
[ warrior ceremonies ]
apprentices are made warriors only after they have mastered basic and advanced hunting and fighting techniques. It is up to the mentors whether they want to test their apprentices on swimming and climbing as well, but apprentices must be taught the basics in both to be given their warrior name. Ceremonies are the same as the original four clans, but vigil is different. Instead of sitting still outside of camp, where the new warriors would surely be frozen solid, they are instead instructed to hunt the entire night for their clan without the help of any clan mates.

The morning was cold and unwelcoming, a common thing for Brightclan's northern weather, but their camp in the caves provided a shield for most of the chill and the worst of the wind. Wolfstar, having woken up early to greet his clan, sat seemingly peacefully just outside his den with his tall ears alert and his fluffy tail curled neatly over his paws. He was quietly waiting for Brightclan to awake, but inside his mind it was less so. Today he knew he would have to choose mentors for the new apprentices, as well as Flamepaw whose mentor had left the clan unexpectedly the moon before. The fluffy white tom wondered who would be the best warriors for the job of training the apprentices. A deputy would also need choosing today, as soon as possible, but until then Wolfstar would fill the role. He decided that the ceremony would be that evening, after every cat had had a full meal.

Pinefall sat, watching, from the lipped opening that served as the entrance to Brightclan's camp. He could see that the wind was cold and strong today, and cursed his short fur for the lack of warmth it often provided him. His sister, Russetbreeze, was lucky to have been blessed with a thick coat, but he was not. Each gust of wind billowed past, rustling his whiskers and causing him to flatten his ears with a hiss.

The russet ginger tabby had no problem sleeping in that morning. Curled in her nest, Russetbreeze snoozed peacefully, uncaring of the cold and wind that was the weather of the day. Protected from it in her warm nest in the warriors' den, the female warrior was happy to continue dreaming.
