These are basically hellhounds with an affinity for magic, and are primarily canines.*
They can be any "breed" of canine but always tend to have more unnatural undertones
to their pelts and were historically bred for war. Magic is limited but when they are
in the vicinity of something that might awaken their magical ability [e.g. technology,
or objects of more ritualistic natures (staffs, dolls, fire)] their colored markings and
horns/claws glow, and their breath also emanates this energy and becomes colored.
They always have two forms, a normal form and a 'fighting' form that has roots within
their lore. It takes high energy, power, and strong fight/flight instinct for them to turn.
*While they're mostly seen as beasts like dogs or cats, they can be other animals.
