"Shall we do it?"
"Yes! No! I don't know... We're gonna get in such big trouble for this, aren't we?"
"Depends. Are we gonna get caught?"
"I hope not."
Apocalypse looked up at his friend, nervous excitement making him smile. His eyes gleamed in the moonlight; it was pitch black all around them as they examined the towering gate before them.
"Then let's go now, before we change our minds."
Taking a few steps back, the pair scaled the gate in a single bound, and landed on the other side. They prowled the perimeter until the reached the short, elongated building that was the high school's cafeteria. The window was ajar, and the warm, sweet smell of baking drifted through it, mingling with the cool night air. Watermelon stood on his hind legs and patted at the window until it opened. They squeezed through, both breathing in sharply and wriggling their backsides as they lodged in the window.
When they were through, the warmth radiating off the ovens warmed them thoroughly after the chilly night, and the buzzing of the industrious refrigerators muffled the squeaks of their feet upon the cool tiles. Apocalypse headed for the fridges, Watermelon for the ovens, and both began to eat piggishly. After only a few minutes, however, the pair were interrupted by the shuffling of feet on carpet and heavy breathing. "Who's there?"
No one answered: they were already backing towards the window, but the slippery floor made the jump harder.
"I can't make it!" Watermelon panted, turning to watch another of Apocalypse's failed attempts.
"Then we have to run," Apocalypse decided, heading for a side door. They had never been inside before, only round the fences, looking in from the outside. Totally lost, they ran up and down stairs, into classrooms, and once even into a janitor's closet. Finally, they were back out in the cold Autumn air, and with no sign of the man. They jumped the gate again and ran, fast, back towards the park, through it, not stopping until they reached the small stream that trickled on its edge.
"That was awesome!" Apocalypse exclaimed, and Watermelon agreed.
"Way better than yesterday!"
