((Before you read this, I have to say that I am so sorry for the obnoxiously long post.. My muse came back, and since I was feeling really happy today.. Well, you can see that I just went haywire.. >.<))

The exact moment when the tag exploded, Akihiko had reached the trees. Quickly hiding himself in the branches of one of them, he muttered a few curses when he realized that the foliage was too thick, and thus he couldn't see anything except the green leaves. Pinching his nose to try to stop the headache that was forming, he tried to look for a lower branch which wasn't so covered in leaves, and one that he could still be hidden in. Finding none, he decided to stick to the one he was in. It was the farthest one on the right, and since he had time, he began formulating something that would help him, because having one vulnerable side could probably bring him down in two seconds flat, maybe even less.
Digging around in his weapons' pouch, he pulled out several more kunai with tags attached to them. These were specially made to help him detect the chakra nature of the person he was fighting. The tags would the automatically detonate with the element that his opponent was weak against. They were powerful, yes, but they also required perfect aim and very good chakra control. Under normal circumstances, it would've been no problem for Akihiko, seeing as his teammates always covered him. However, in this battle, he was alone, with no one to watch his back.
If he was lucky, the kunai would hit. But if he wasn't..
Shaking his head, he cleared his thoughts before realizing that his opponent had seemingly disappeared. Trying not to let himself panic, he took one deep breath before closing his eyes, remembering his sensei's most recent lesson.
Flashback
"I know you have exceptional teamwork, but there are times when one of you may be separated from the group. In times like those, you need to be a lot more observant of your surroundings," Yukiko said, her blue eyes carefully scrutinizing her pupils. "Kaito, you have one of the most sensitive noses I have ever encountered - you could probably be on par with one of the Inuzukas. Use that to your advantage. If you can't see your enemies, sniff them out," she told their most hyper member before giving him a task that would help him use his sense of smell to the best of his abilities.
As soon as the orange-haired boy was out of sight, she turned to Aira. "You posses the Sharingan. However, I have a feeling that you are trying not to use it. Thus, we have to improve on your chakra sensing skills. Akihiko, you have very good chakra control as well, and since you have no other crazy abilities, I think being able to locate chakra signatures will be a very useful skill for you."
Aira merely grinned at the prospect of learning how to detect chakra signatures, while Akhiko took it into his stride. Among his teammates, he was the most 'normal', and thus he knew that he had to work harder. As soon as Yukiko told them what to do, she disappeared, but mot before telling them to find her. She had made a Shadow Clone of herself so that her chakra would be evenly distributed and since it would also force Aira and Akihiko to work separately.
Akihiko had been greatly successful, having found his teacher in less that thirty minutes, while Aira took over an hour, due to the fact that she still wasn't in control of the thing inside her. Feeling proud of himself, Akihiko had made sure that he never forgot how to sense chakra.
Back at the arena, Akihiko had already managed to detect Kiro's signature, and he decided to lay in wait, but not before masking his own chakra, the result of countless hours of practice.

Aira immediately blushed for having thought that the male was a Genin like them. "I'm so sorry! I thought you were a Student!" she quickly apologized, bowing down to show her sincerity. At his statement, however, she looked back up at him before looking to the arena. She couldn't see him teammate, but if she knew him as well as she did, he was hiding in the trees. Shaking her head, she replied to Kiro's sensei. "The battle isn't over yet. Akihiko may be good at strategizing, but he doesn't do well against close-range combat. However, he might be able to gain an advantage if he uses his Genjutsu.. But that's going to take a toll on his chakra levels," she stated, her eyes growing worried.
Her orange-haired teammate seemed to sense her unease and quickly slung s arm over her shoulders. "Cha~! Hime-chan, have a little more faith in Aki. He's definitely not gonna go down without a fight," he told her.
Smiling, the violet-eyed girl nodded. Maybe Kaito was right - she was probably getting a little too paranoid.
