Scott gently placed her on the stretcher, then stood back, turning to the nurse. "I found her in the forest," he said quickly. "No clue who she is or where she's from, and no idea what happened."

Alyce heard the man talking to the nurse and tried to roll over to hear them better. She accidentally twisted her broken leg and gasped, then bit her lip, feeling tears on her cheeks.

Scott immediately turned to her. "Just take it easy," he said to her. "They'll get you back in just a second and get you taken care of."

Alyce nodded her head and her eyelids fluttered closed, and she slowed her breathing to make it look as though she was unconscious again.

[Interiu]

"She's been going in and out since I found her," Scott informed the nurse. The nurse wrote down what Scott had said on a chart and rushed Alyce into the back part of the hospital. A doctor came very quickly to check up on her and see what all she had damaged.

Alyce felt a doctor prodding her in the ribs and felt a flicker of annoyance. She quickly subdued herself and went into a meditative state. Through her stupor she could hear people muttering and out of her slightly parted eyelids could see shadowy grey shapes moving. Suddenly, she felt a prick in her arm and immediately felt even more drowsy then before. A drip, she thought, then succumbed to unconsciousness.

The doctors set the broken bones, stitched the bigger of the cuts, and cleaned and bandaged everything. The nurse came out and told Scott that she was stable, but it would probably be awhile before she was even remotely better.

Alyce woke up. The bright hospital lights glared into her eyes and she blinked a few times until her vision got better. She listened but she couldn't hear any doctors nearby. She looked out the window of her bedroom and saw the stars. Her leg felt heavy, and when she looked down she saw she had a cast. She scowled, then sat up. There was a bandage around her head and she took it off, then swung her legs to the side of the bed.

Scot had decided to wait and see if she woke up, so that maybe he could talk to her and figure out what had happened. After a while, he approached the nurse and asked if she had woken up yet. The nurse said that she would check and headed back to the room where Alyce had been put.

Alyce realised that she was wearing a paper hospital gown and scowled again. She couldn't go out in public like this! She got up as fast as she could with one leg in plaster and hobbled towards the cupboard on the other side of the room. She opened the door, and there were her clothes, freshly cleaned. "Finally! A bit of luck!" she said, and got them out. She heard footsteps approaching the door.
