The hall was pretty crammed full of students and families. Halo knew that his family wouldn't be here. Other than his sister who had to be here, he knew that he was alone in this. Since he'd pretty much p*ssed Blitz off, he headed into the hall alone only to be met by the fierce redhead as soon as he did so, her pale hand grabbing the side of his hoodie and yanking him a little to the side. "I didn't want to let them lose on you," she said with a ghost of a smile.
Halo rolled his eyes as they then headed through the crowd to the seated area at the front of the room near the podium. "I don't need extra protection," he muttered in a dark tone, his hazel eyes glancing at the numerous faces that turned to look at him and, he noted, most of which were laughing. Blitz shot most of them a dark glare but that didn't stop the laughter in his head. His jaw tightened in response, his fists clenching as they secured a seat.
"Don't be nervous," he heard Blitz mutter as the lights dimmed and everyone was still, a sudden spot light now on the podium before them. The other students about them were all chattering excitably. Halo wasn't feeling the same energy. Although he wanted to get this done swiftly, it meant he'd be leaving Blitz behind for however long it took for him to get this job done. He hoped the human was weak and easy to break.
Suddenly a man appeared atop of the podium wearing a black suit and and tie. "I think he's come to the wrong prom," Blitz muttered in his ear and Halo couldn't help but glance at her, the ghost of a smile quirking his lips ever so slightly before it fell away as he then turned and listened to the mans booming voice over the tannoys. Halo'd heard it all before, having attended this thing over a hundred times. Good morning ladies and gents, blah blah blah, thank you for coming, blah blah blah. Halo was getting more tense with each word he said. He was only really at proper attention when he heard the man then introducing The List. He felt Blitz nudge him as the names were then called and, one by one, the students around them rose to their feet to stand beneath the podium. Safe to say Halo was quietly c***ping himself. He glanced at Blitz when he heard her name called and she clicked her tongue and a slight smile quirked her lips but her eyes were glazed over with determination. Much to Halos relief, his name was called alongside. His eyes closed ever so slightly at the quiet chorus of boo's but Blitz's nudge forced him to his feet and he followed behind her.
Each of them were then given a scroll bound in black ribbon. Halo noted how his was bound in red ribbon. He made a sort of hissing noise when the man regarded him with disdain as he took the scroll sharply from his hand. Untying the ribbon and holding it in his hand, Halo unrolled the scroll and scanned it. "Acelet D’arville," he read quietly under his breath. He frowned slightly at the roughly drawn image on the scroll beneath the name followed by the address. He glanced at Blitz who seemed to smile at hers before rolling it back closed before Halo could see her target. She simply smiled at him before her eyes fleeted to the audience. Halo sighed as he also glanced a little nervously at the audience. Practically every set of eyes were on him. Him alone. He hadn't felt more exposed in his life.
But at least I'll be away from here he thought.
