Earl Ciel Phantomhive
"Yes, children can be quite demanding about their games."
Ciel is a young male with blue eyes and bluish-black hair. As the head of the noble Phantomhive family, in the manga, he typically dresses in a way that suits his standing, and has an extensive and elegant wardrobe.
Ciel wears two rings. One is an ornate silver piece holding an emerald-cut deep blue stone, a one-of-a-kind family ring that has been passed down through his family for generations. It is also hinted in the anime that it's a blue diamond; he wears this on his left thumb, as it is an adult's ring and too large for him. The other is a gold seal, or signet, ring in the form of the family crest, worn on his right hand, and used to stamp the wax seal on documents. The seal was given to him by Madame Red after his return, telling him it is the only one left as the other rings are destroyed in the fire. When he wears gloves, he wears the rings over them.
He nearly always wears a black eye patch over his right eye, not because he is missing it, but because that is where the sign of his Faustian Contract with Sebastian Michaelis is hidden. It is revealed that the more visible the mark is, the stronger the bond between the two. This would mean that Ciel and Sebastian's bond is of an impeccable level. Typically, he wears a black eye patch with a single cord with his day wear, and a medical-looking, white patch which fastens with two cords when at home or while in disguise.
Ciel is a very strict and proud character in the anime, with a cold outlook on life. However throughout the anime, his character personality changes gradually and he becomes more aware of his other emotions. Before his parents died, Ciel had the normal outlook as a child. Elizabeth said that when his parents were alive, the Phantomhive manor was full of smiles.[4] When his parents were burned alive and Ciel made his contract with Sebastian, Ciel went into hiding his emotions and his smile to everyone. He is punctilious on orders as he expects Sebastian, his butler, to complete them accordingly and is extremely loyal to Queen Victoria.
In the manga, he smiles more often and is more relaxed, even a bit mischievous. He usually smirks mockingly and finds it entertaining to challenge Sebastian. He becomes disappointed when Sebastian manages to defeat the opponent he arranged for him, wanting to see Sebastian on his knees for once.
Nonetheless, Sebastian and he work together often, and only his butler seems to be aware and knowledgeable of Ciel's schemes and plans, in contrast to the other Phantomhive servants.
Ciel is competitive, in which he acknowledges it himself, saying that he would not lose in a competition during Frances and his hunting contest. He was not appeased to have a draw with Frances and insisted for another round until the victor is prominent. However, if he is fairly defeated, he would accept it.
Sebastian has noted that Ciel is arrogant and extremely confident in his skills to the extent that he has the viewpoint of 'there's no way I can ever lose'. Therefore, there are still some childish traits in Ciel that would need to be corrected by the adult he respects.
It has been stated by Claude that Ciel's soul is "pure, complete, and absolutely white". This hints at that Ciel is actually a good person. This may mean that his cold demeanor may in fact be a defense mechanism he developed because of his traumatic life.
Ciel was a regular child in the past who maintained a cheerful disposition. He often would smile and play with his family and Elizabeth.
On his tenth birthday, he was running through the manor and came across his dead mother, father, and dog. He calls for help, and runs into Tanaka, who tries to get him to flee. Before he can say much, however, he suffers an attack from behind from an unseen assailant who then grabs Ciel.
Ciel was than sold, and his kidnappers comment that he is "rare" and is worth more than two people. Someone buys him, and his new owners brand him, giving him the mark of a "noble beast". He cries, saying that he's hurt and dirty and he wants to go home. He is next seen chained in a cage while masked adults look on, remarking about what a splendid evening they will have. Ciel sadly wonders why no one is there to help him. One of the masked adults then places him on a table for his sacrifice and he is stabbed, while other adults look on gleefully, clapping.
Sebastian is summoned to him, although how is not shown. He appears in his true demon form. He tells Ciel that what has been sacrificed will never return. He asks Ciel if he wants to make a contract and have his wishes granted or not. Ciel says that he wants power to take revenge on those who did this to him. The ones who tried to sacrifice him try to stop him from talking, but Ciel agrees to make a contract. Sebastian asks him where he wants his seal, saying that the more visible it is, the stronger the contract is. Ciel tells him that anywhere is fine and that he want's a power stronger that anyone else's. Sebastian calls him greedy and decides to put it on his right eye. Ciel screams, then commands him to kill his attackers. He then burns the building. Ciel orders Sebastian to protect and never betray him, to obey his orders no matter what, and to never lie.
After that, the first place they go is to the Royal Hospital where his aunt worked. She arranges for a carriage to bring him back to his manor. He and Sebastian view the ruined manor, then go to his and his parents' graves. Sebastian leaves briefly and when Ciel returns, the manor is as good as new. Ciel later takes his place as the Earl of Phantomhive and the Watchdog of the Queen.
"We as humans have the power to do such, but whether we grab on to the thread or not is our choice to make."

Sebastian Michaelis
"I am simply one hell of a butler."
Sebastian is the demon butler of the Phantomhive household.
Sebastian takes on the appearance of a tall, young adult male with black hair and frequently red eyes, although at other times they turn brighter or reddish pink. He typically dresses in an outfit consisting of black trousers, a tailcoat, vest, and tie. He also sports a pocket watch with a chain, and a chained silver lapel pin bearing the Phantomhive crest, traditionally worn by the house's head butler. His white gloves conceal the mark of his Faustian Contract with Ciel Phantomhive on his left hand. Occasionally, he removes his white gloves, revealing permanently black fingernails. When acting as a tutor to his charge, he wears glasses and a scarf, and sweeps his hair back from his face.
n the anime, when he becomes King Edward's and Richard's butler, his hair is much longer, and pulled back by a black ribbon. He also wears a slightly different outfit with a lacy ascot tie. However, he serves them only for a little while and was not officially declared as their butler.
Sebastian's demonic form has never been fully shown. Details of this form include high-heeled stiletto boots, a shower of black feathers, sharp claws, glowing pink irises, slitted pupils and sharper, longer teeth. Prior to transforming, Sebastian says several times that his form is unpleasant to look at and just looking at it drove Ash to hysterics, screaming that he was "unclean". In the anime, he also has the ability to transform into a crow or a cat, although this has never been part of the manga.
Sebastian is a dutiful and dedicated butler to Ciel. He follows each order faithfully, while always ensuring that the Phantomhive house runs smoothly. As such, he is noticeably annoyed whenever they end up behind schedule. The way he responds to Ciel's demands is quite notable, as the servants are pleased when they can successfully imitate the way he says, "Yes, my lord," to Ciel.
At times, Sebastian can seem as if he doesn't actually care about Ciel's wellbeing, as he frequently teases him, and has put his life in mild danger for his own amusement. Once, he responded to Ciel's kidnapping as "terrible," but only because the tea he prepared would go to waste. He also once called Ciel a "brat" who treats his workers rudely. However, Sebastian shows concern for Ciel even when his life is in no real danger, often giving him his coat when it's cold outside. He also shows concern for Ciel when he has an asthma attack and then once again when he has a panic attack. Soma once comments that he doesn't think Sebastian is very nice to Ciel, which Sebastian is surprised and worried to hear. He attempts to 'fawn over' Ciel by feeding him in bed, but Ciel immediately tells him to stop. Despite all the troubles he goes through on a daily basis, he has said that he doesn't think it's such a bad way of life.
In Kuroshitsuji II, his personality has changed dramatically. Initially, Sebastian didn't show concern towards Ciel very often. In the second season he seems much more fond of him and becomes extremely protective of him when he is endangered, and his 'unusual' behavior has been commented on by Claude Faustus, who notices that the demon is 'abnormally attached' to Ciel, something highly unusual for their kind.
He claims that Sebastian cares more for Ciel than a demon under contract should care for his master. He also seems to have become more affectionate as he is often seen patting Ciel on his head and holding him to his chest when trying to comfort him.
He even has shown a possessive and jealous side, brought out whenever he thinks either Claude or Alois is after his young master.
He repeatedly refers to Ciel as his, making this very clear to Claude. A demonic aura can be seen in his shadow when he feels jealous, which is shown after he sees Ciel holding Hannah's hand and when Claude brags about how good Ciel's soul is.
He tells Claude that the mere thought that someone else had touched his young master makes him sick. Claude often teases Sebastian while he has Ciel in his possession, kissing Ciel's foot and talking about how the Sweet Briar flower would suit his young master. Whenever Claude makes a comment about Ciel, Sebastian immediately becomes enraged, and even tears apart an entire forest in jealousy after Claude kisses Ciel's foot to anger him.
He has also openly expressed his admiration for Ciel's courage and integrity.
He seems to find humans, in general, to be "difficult creatures," but he also states that their struggles and lofty goals make them "interesting." He has also stated that he would never speak falsely or lie, unlike humans. He views Finnian, Mey-Rin, and Baldroy as incompetent idiots who he must look after and redo tasks for. Nonetheless, he does so cheerfully, usually stating that he understands that mistakes happen.
He seems to place Tanaka in high regard, frequently telling him that he is doing just fine and ordering the other servants to look to Tanaka as an example. Furthermore, he seems to view Agni as a valuable resource on taking care of Ciel, as he frequently follows Agni's advice, much to the latter's chagrin. He calls Agni a "really capable person" and is shocked that such people exist.
Agni also referred to them as friends, which Sebastian finds surprising, as no one has called him such before.
To others, he generally appears cheerful, quiet and capable, but Prince Soma, Mey-Rin, Finnian and Baldroy have given indications that they are frightened of him, as shown when the servants become terribly distressed when they do something they think will upset him, and when Soma hides behind other people, such as Ciel and Agni, when speaking to Sebastian.
Soma has also been seen running away from Sebastian or physically crouching with a look of fear when Sebastian comes near him.
Sebastian seems to find this amusing and uses their fear to manipulate them into doing what he asks. One human who is shown to thoroughly dislike him is Frances Midford, who calls Sebastian "indecent" and "inappropriate." Her ferocity has also made her one of the few who can intimidate Sebastian to an extent.
However, despite this, there seems to be a feeling of mutual respect between the two, as Sebastian hopes that Ciel can look to Frances as a role model, and Frances tells Sebastian that he is the type that will "never be taken advantage of."
Despite his ability to appear like a perfectly normal human, especially one who is able to smile, be cheerful, and be understanding, Sebastian is, in actuality, quite heartless, sadistic, and malicious. This comes out when he attacks others on Ciel's orders, such as when he kicked Grell's face because it was the thing most important to him. It is also shown with his cruel sarcasm and his inability to see good in much of anyone.
It is shown that Sebastian adores cats of all types, because they do not do or talk about useless things and "there is nothing cuter." He even forgives a tiger for biting him and promptly stops Beast from whipping it. He also compares the pads of a cat's soft paws to Ciel's sleeping face. Parallel to his love for cats, he despises dogs, because they make loud, barbaric noises. In the Phantomhive Manor Murder case flashback Sebastian was seen putting several kittens in his closet when he saw them in the rain.Sebastian never passes by a cat on the street without stopping to admire it, this made especially clear when he notices a mother cat nursing her kittens.
Additionally, it is known that Sebastian does not sleep, except as a luxury, and frequently does tasks for Ciel at night. He also views money as "rubbish" and is more than willing to give out generous amounts of pocket money given to him.
Little has been revealed about Sebastian's history. We know that Sebastian's real home is in an alternate world, but it is quite different from the human world. In particular, he has mentioned that the creatures kept as pets there are in no way comparable to cats (the example shown resembles the Alien creature designed by H.R. Giger.) It is also said that Sebastian has been alive for at least 100 years, possibly much longer; in episode 4 of Kuroshitsuji II, Sebastian briefly mentions that he met an ancient Egyptian mummy when it was alive - the Pharaoh/mummy, identified by Sebastian as Smenkhkare, reigned about 3000 years ago, towards the end of the 18th Dynasty (1336-1334 BCE), hence this hints that Sebastian would have to be at least 3000 years old to have met the man.
He also says in the manga that all of Ciel's life would feel like an instant.
In the anime, he also claims to be responsible for the spread of the Black Death, which occurred about 500 years before the main storyline.
Sebastian stated that, in the past, he engaged in "messily sampling every dish available," and has since resorted to only consuming "high-quality" souls. As a result, he is, apparently, starving, but states that the dinner will be that much better the hungrier he is.
He first came to Ciel after Ciel was about to be sacrificed in a occult ritual.
After forming the contract with Ciel and placing the mark of the contract on his eye, Ciel ordered him to slay his abductors.
This occurred three years before the events in the main storyline. When Sebastian was summoned in the manga, he appeared in his true demon form, while in the anime, he appeared as a crow or raven accompanied by a rain of feathers. In the manga, it seems that Sebastian was summoned accidentally, but in the anime it is made apparent that Ciel knew about the existence of demons and how to summon them all too well.
Also of note, he appears in front of Ciel's attackers in the manga, while in the anime, he appears in a limbo world. In both the anime and the manga, it is implied that Sebastian will take the role of Ciel's butler until Ciel has completed his personal mission of revenge - that is the substance of their contract.
Sebastian's job is to serve Ciel, doing everything from the mundane task of serving tea to protecting Ciel from certain death, until Ciel's goal is complete. In return, Sebastian will receive Ciel's soul when said goal is completed. The demon was given the name "Sebastian" by Ciel for the duration of his duties as the Phantomhive butler.
This name used to belong to a dog in the Phantomhive household.
After killing the cultist that tried to sacrifice Ciel, then went to the Royal London Hospital to meet with Ciel's aunt. There, he met Tanaka who gave him a watch that has been passed down from one butler to the next.
After that, Madame Red arranged for a carriage to bring them to the ruins of the Phantomhive manor. While Ciel is morning his parents, he reconstructs the manor.
Ciel and Sebastian then begin daily life. He teaches Ciel how to be an earl, and Ciel teaches him how to be a butler. He later attended Ciel's coronation as the Earl of Phantomhive.
"Yes, My Lord."
