Dreampaw jumped up and down excitedly, giving her brother a huge hug.
"Have fun at the Gathering," Littlepaw said, trying to be encouraging, though Dreampaw could hear the miserableness to his voice.
"I'm sorry," she mumbled. "I was hoping we would share our first Gathering together too,"
"Hey, Look," he looked up, a smile on his face. Dreampaw wasn't sure if it was real. "It's fine,"
IvyStar, who had been watching the whole ordeal padded over to them.
"Hey Littlepaw," she said gently.
The apprentice looked up and gave a quick respectful bow to his leader. So did his sister.
"Sorry I missed you off. You will be going the Gathering tonight," she declared.
Littlepaw gave. A little squeak of excitement.
"Oh thank you IvyStar!" he gushed.
She nodded then walked off.

Deathpaw concentrated like Clem did and looked at all the monsters zooming past. He saw a gap and sprinted as fast as he could. He didn't stop until he banged into Clem. She pushed him off then started to walk into the bushes on the other side.
He looked at his paws. There was dark black hard grit like stuff in them and he shook it off then followed Clem. If he lost her now he would be doomed.

Darkcloud and Cloudpool were sitting together in the late sunhigh.
"I was um...wondering... if you would...like to go hun-nting with me?" she asked nervously. The jet black tom turned away then stood up.
"Sure," he said. There was a slight bit of humour in his voice.

Rosepaw watched Cloudpool and Darkcloud, her eyes glittering with amusement. Deciding if she could stir up something, she bounded towards them.
"Where are you going?" she asked, mischievously.

Cloudpool turned around shocked. She didn't want anyone to know about this.
"Um...hunting!" she said. Darkcloud stood there staring at the apprentice intimidatingly. He turned around and left and Cloudpool quickly follwed him.

Not downhearted, Rosepaw hopped back to the apprentices' den.

Cloudberry sighed.
That was close, I really wan-
Her thoughts were stopped when she saw Darkcloud start crouching and stalking a pheasant. It was huge, for leaf-bare anyway. Cloudpool examined his sleek jet black pelt and purred. He pounced onto the bird and dug his claws into it. He killed it and looked down at it.
"How are we going to get it back to camp?" he asked. He wasn't one to ask questions very often. Cloudpool looked at him.
"Come on. I'll help you," she replied. He turned his head.
"No, I won't get a lady to help me!"
"But that things huge!"
He snarled at her. This time Cloudpool kept quiet and watched as he dragged the pheasant back to camp.

Deathpaw looked up at the sky.
Tonight will be the Gathering. I wonder if Cloverpaw is going?
He saw Clem moving into the forest. Her dark coat was hard to make out. He followed her scent and saw that she had sat down.
"Once we are through this forest, we will be 'home'," she said quietly. She crept silently through the trees.
