"Whatever. Not like I care." She let her hand linger above the duck's head, a faint smile on her lips.

Richard started to walk off. "have a nice day." he said a little disappointed. he was only trying to be friendly.

"He just doesn't get the expression 'poker face', does he?" She murmured loudly, seemingly speaking to the duck, but really aiming her words at him. "It's hard, you know. To show emotions, I mean. On the streets, it was taboo to express yourself in any way other than in a fight to the death. Old habits die hard." The duck quacked at her and she smiled softly. "But it's not impossible."

richard turned back to her. "well isnt that a pretty smile."

"What smile?" She deadpanned, the grin disappearing completely. The duck quacked plaintively and she reached into her pocket for more bread.

"oh come on. your very pretty when you smile."

"Yeah. Sure." Shaden tried to stop the creeping smile, but it climbed stubbornly onto her face. She fed the duck some more bread. "Y'know, if I keep feeding you, you'll get fat and round." The bird obviously had no care for it's physical shape, since it just kept eating.

"There it is." richard said. he walked over and sat beside her. "Ducks are more like pigs. They eat everything in sight."

"Yeah. I remember, my brother once threw some beef at a flock of seagulls and they actually fought over it!" She laughed slightly, then smiled again, a little sadder this time. "My brother was the only one who cared for me in those days. I wish I could see him."
