Making sure that no one was watching him, he left the riggers to do their job and wandered over to Melody. I don't have time to teach you at the moment, for obvious reasons... But here, take this. Extending his hand to her, he smiled at the smaller cutlass blade between his fingers. The cold metal relaxing him. Defend the ship. It's a very important job. If the Spanish get hold of our ship, it's all over. You like being a pirate... ...and not being hung... ...don't you? A warm smile crept onto his face as he placed the binding of the cutlass in her hand and walked back to Jade. We want them alive or are we to leave no quarter?

Jade drew out her sword ad gazed at it while he talked, thinking deeply. "Kill anyone who gets in your way." She stated, and let her hand drop to her side. "Spaniards may be fierce fighters, but once we have the upper hand, they'll soon back down. If you have to kill the entire crew, do so."

Melody backed down, but angrily. She knew that all Jade was trying to do was protect her, but still- she wanted to fight, not sit around like some fat king while other people fought her battles. "Jade," she said pleadingly, "Can't I do something? Load a cannon, or shoot a pistol, or...?" She sounded whiny- she heard the whine in her voice, and hated it- but she didn't want to feel helpless. She'd gone through enough of life hating her situation and not being able to do anything about it, and now, when she finally thought that she would be able to help people do something useful, she was denied the chance.

Jade sighed. "Alright. You can shoot a pistol to signify our presence. Let us go aboard, and if you can shoot anyone from a distance, do so. I can't give you my pistol, so you'll have to go to the armoury." She ran her fingertips over the sharp blade of her sword.

"Thank you, Cap'n!" breathed Melody, nearly quivering with excitement. She raced down the stairs and underneath the main deck, heading straight for the armory. Knee-length brown breeches showed off thin legs and bare feet, and a full-sleeved white shirt completed the outfit. A brown headscarf was tied around her darkly gold hair, and chocolate brown eyes danced from weapon to weapon as the young girl threw open the armory door.

Jade watched her and turned to look at the spaniard ship. They weren't far off now. It would have been better if they had the element of supprise, but the gunshot should scare them into submission. Replacing her sword in it's scabbard, she gave the signal to raise the jolly rodger.

Melody let her fingers run over the guns and was slightly ashamed to realize that she didn't know what half of them were called. However, she soon located a pistol, and, taking it off the wall, held the gun up to examine it. It was beautiful, if something so deadly could be called that. Excellent metalwork, intricately put together so that everything would work perfectly. Things like this- complex machines- had always interested Melody. She was forever trying to figure out how they worked. But no time for that now- she raced back up on deck, pulling off her headscarf and tying it around her waist like a sash, tucking the pistol into it. She came up the stairs just as Jade gave the order to raise the Jolly Roger.

Jade turned around at the pattering feet. "Good. You're here. I want you to go to the bow of the ship, slightly starboard, and shoot." However, beore the cabin girl could go anywhere, Jade held out her hand. "Let me check it's loaded."

Jack had sprinted up to the deck just after melody, he wasn't very nimble and because of his size was rather uncoordinated, but he mnaged to get up there just in time to hear the instructions. Spaniard. Kill as needed. That message wa si his brain now, a small smile crept onto his face. He slid the cutlass out from it's scabbard and grinned. The metal glistened in the glow of the sky and his confidence grew. He was ready to defend and ready to kick some spaniard's a***.

"Yes, Cap'n," replied Melody happily, almost wriggling with glee. However, she had to catch herself and keep from heaving a sigh or rolling her eyes as Jade held out a hand for the pistol. She knew the Captain would want to check that it was loaded, but why would it be hanging up in the armory if it wasn't? However, she didn't want to lose the right to fire the first frightening shot, so she handed the pistol over right quickly.
