Jade watced as the cabin girl raced away. She didn't know what made her offer to teach, but it could be the fact that the needed as many people ready to fight as possible. Her hand gravitated to her own sword as she thought.

That's awfully nice of you Jade, offering to teach her fighting. Now I know I'm right, who are you and what have you done with Capt'n Jade? Chuckling softly, he shook his head, eyes sparkling with laughter. The whole 'flirting' thing had never worked with Jade, so there was no point in it. With her, his best chance was being himself, or a slightly better pirate. Jade's attitude towards him was changing, so perhaps she'd let him have his way once? Very unlikely since this was Jade he was talking about, but still...

Jade pushed him gently. "We're going to have to fight within the next week, you know, so I might as well. Unless you want to?" She smiled, but it turned to a fown. "And I'll take some more fingers from Angelica. Maybe a whole arm. Or her head." Oh, how she wanted to get back at her mother.

Melody heard Jade's words from the rigging and called down, "Can I fight too? You never let me! Please please please?"

Jade looked up. "Why do you think I'll be teaching you?" She called back. "There's normally a very good reason not to let you fight."

"I can fight as well as any of you!" called Melody back down, popping her head up into the crow's nest to see if Alex was there. He wasn't, so she stood on the little circle of wood and held onto the mast, looking out over the thick back of fog. She could hardly see the deck below- it was like she was floating in a cloud. Her words had been a lie, of course- she didn't know the first damn thing about fighting.

And I thought I was the mother hen. Merr smirked at Jade, glancing up at the cabin girl, Melody. Placing a hand on Jade's shoulder, he smiled warmly, eyes soft. We'll get her Jade. He paused for a moment, thinking to himself. Does she know me? Well, did she know me, when I was young? Maybe he could help out a bit if she did recognise him... He could remember a woman always worrying over him, but he didn't think it was her... She tried to kill her own daughter. Chuckling at Melody's words, he drew a throwing knife, throwing it up at the crows nest so it landed a centimetre from her hand. Oh yeah?

"Yeah!" shouted Melody down boastfully, grabbing the knife and tugging it out of the mast. "Only, I won't throw this back, 'cause I don't want to hurt you!" She was slightly ashamed for being so prideful- hadn't her mother taught her better than that? But it hardly mattered. Nobody on this ship took her seriously anyways, so why bother trying to change their minds?

"When you've never held a sword, fired a pistol, or killed someone with a single blow? I doubt it!" Jade yelled up to the cabin girl. "Why do you think I'm going to teach you?" She chuckled at Merr. "Careful. If you kill my cabin girl, who will cook for us?"

Then if you actually hit target, I'm not dead or stopped from ever having children. Smiling sheepishly at her, he stood with open arms, acting too much like a target...
