Maybe she was getting over his death.

Thanks Jade... Smirking at her, he shook his head as she chuckled. It wasn't quite as hilarious to him... It had been every single morning, at the crack of dawn... Rather irritating from his angle. As she mentioned Jack, Merr gulped, looking quite awkward... I'd rather not imagine his face... He never really liked me getting close to you. Remember that time in Tortuga... He floored me, and you had to tell him to let me up.

Sssh. Stroking a finger down the side of her face, he spoke gently into her ear. Wrapping his arms around her to hold her close to his chest, he rubbed her back, just trying to calm her down. She was distressed, with good reason... Sssh, it's okay. He was a good man Jade, don't let anyone tell you differently. She was hurting, the best he could do was try and help her through it. Wiping the tear from her face, he smiled reassuringly, eyes soft and gentle.
