Tobias Asiali
location: Blessed Stronghold
"Tobias, It's Emma", He woke up to the telepath's voice in his head.
"I'm not reading anything, I promise. David told me to get you up! Everyone is gathering in the square, there's set to be an announcement- there's a whole feast planned!" Tobias grinned
"Thanks Emma" He thought, knowing that she'd hear him. He and Emma had been close since he joined the guild. They got along fine for the first month or so, but then she'd broken her leg badly, before he was qualified to help with the healing. He couldn't bear to be near her, so he'd sit in the garden outside the infirmary, just far enough away to reduce her pain to a dull ache in his leg, and just close enough to allow her telepathy to work. From then on, they were firm friends, even after she made a full recovery.
Tobias pulled himself out of his thoughts and into his clothes, grabbing his small pack but leaving his knives. He ran down the dorm stairs and emerged into the square, where tables were set out and coloured streamers put up
"Emma, what time is it?" he thought, hoping she was still listening
"and where are you?" he added, seeing no sign of the tall woman's afro.
"It's 3pm, sleepyhead!" she shouted from behind him, flicking him on the back of the head
"where were you? Does this have anything to do with you?""Emma!" he shouted, pulling her into a hug.
"This has everything to do with me, and I'll tell you about it after all this" Emma nodded, then closed her eyes for a moment.
"Charlotte wants you" she said as she opened her eyes and pointed towards the makeshift stage in the centre of the square. Tobias nodded and headed that way. Seeing him nearing the stage, David whispered something to Charlotte. She then stood up and raised her hands to silence the crowd.
"Blessed. We gather today in celebration of a wonderful gift. A gem. Whose powers increase our own. We will soon ask for your bracelets to modify to include a small piece of this." At this she held up her hand, displaying the small gem nestled in the centre of her bracelet.
"This will help us all, from our messengers-" Tobias saw Emma tip her head at this
"-to our farmers-" a small cheer went up from, Tobias assumed, the farmers.
"-and our medics." She turned to Tobias, still stood by the side of the stage.
"Speaking of medics, Our thanks to Tobias, our top student medic. He bravely ventured out, defeating a Sun Walker to bring this home for us!" Tobias rocked his head at the stretching of the truth which suggested he and Aiko had reached anything other than a grudging truce, but walked up on stage nonetheless. He blushed as the crowd cheered, unaccustomed to the attention.
"Here, is your new bracelet" Charlotte removed his old one, and as she slid the gem over his wrist, a cheer went up from the crowd. Tobias waved one more time before taking leave of the stage, and weaving his way back to Emma, receiving pats on the back and small cheers from people as he passed.
Emma clearly knew that Tobias was itching to get away from the crowd, as she flung her arm around him, leading him away from the square
"A Sun Walker?? You have to tell me everything, dude!" She laughed. Tobias relaxed into his friend as they walked away from the party beginning behind them.
