“Sounds good. I drink it plain. Trying to cut my sugar intake. Have to stay in shape for the movie.” He said stirring her drink and giving it to her. He sighed and drank his coffee. “So are you an actress?” He asked. He was glad that the crowd couldn’t get to him since he was within the gates. But he saw a couple of people trying to get to him to meet him. “I wonder how long he will wait before starting this. There aren’t enough extras signed up but we will figure out something.” He said and then realized something. “How rude of me. I didn’t officially introduce myself. I am Jacob Daughtry.” He said holding out his hand to her. “Are you from around here.” He asked.

Nicole let out a small laugh at his comment about staying in shape for the movie, regardless of what he ate he always seemed to look good in magazines and online, then again she rationalized that as photoshop and filters. When Jacob handed over her cup of coffee she thanked him and took a sip. "Perfect." she thought to herself with a small smile on her face. "I mean kind of? It's been my dream career since I was a little kid." She took another sip of coffee before continuing. "I haven't done anything professional like this, provided I land a role I mean, but I did a lot of theater programs in school and I've done a couple of community theater productions recently since graduating." Nicole looked puzzled at his comment about not a lot of people signing up. "Really? I thought that most of the people here were signing up to be an extra." Taking Jacob's hand in hers and shaking it she said, "Nice to officially meet you, Jacob. And yes, this is my home town. I've always lived here." She smiled at him before taking another sip of coffee.

“That is awesome. It was always my dream too and I feel so lucky to be here. No. We only have 12 signed up. Everyone just wanted to meet me and Alissa. It is common. It maybe we can get a few to stick around. We will see what they say. Extras are hard to get sometimes. It totally sucks but it’s okay. That’s awesome you live here. Pretty place. I am in LA most of the time when I am not filming something. I like it there.” He said. “Well, I guess we should get this started. I am sure you will get a part as an extra. It is just a matter of what part.” He said with a smile and headed back to the table to sit with the director. He drank his coffee and listened as he said what he wanted the people auditioning to do.

Nicole said goodbye to Jacob before he started walking away towards the director's table. Nicole quickly grabbed her stuff and shoved it into her bag. She chugged the last bit of her coffee before throwing the cup into the garbage that was on the way to where the extras were signing up. There was a long line that led to another roped-off area. While waiting in line Nicole played with her lip ring, occasionally taking it between her teeth and releasing it, as was one of her nervous habits. As she got closer to the line she noticed a couple of security guards and PA's looking over the signup list and checking people ID's to make sure they were actually on the signup list. Nicole made a quick move to pull her wallet and her driver's license out of her bag. When she made it to the front of the line, she passed over her ID. The female security guard, whose name tag read Megan, took a second and looked between the ID and the signup sheet. She passed back Nicole's stuff, "Good luck!" She said with a smile before waving Nicole in. In the roped-off area, there was the director's table and a makeshift platform in front of them where the other approved extras were lined up shoulder to shoulder. Once everyone had been vetted there were a total of 13 people auditioning. There were only 4 boys which left 9 girls including Nicole. The director started by introducing himself, his experience, and what the basic premise of the movie was so that those who weren't interested could leave. The movie was a rom-com style. After nobody left the director, Henry, had everyone go down the line and introduce themselves and share some of their experience. Most people had been an extra in a couple of movies and had been going around the country looking for casting calls. There were a few people Nicole recognized as people she had done community theater with. Once it was her turn Nicole stated her full legal name, which was the same name she put down on the signup sheet and mentioned her community theater experience.

Jacob sat watching the director and listening to the people introducing themselves. He took notes of names. He liked learning them. Alissa didn’t though. She didn’t care unless the person was famous. She put her head on his shoulder and he moved away slightly so she stopped. She hated how he didn’t seem into her like she was him. If people were paying attention to him they may have caught him pull away a bit.

Henry smiled. “Alright. You probably already know these two. They are the leads of the show. Alissa plays Alex and Jacob Luke. They are totally in love but are hiding it from each other and such. Alright. So there are a few roles that have one line. We will have each of you perform those lines and see how you do with that and we will then see where you fit in. Alright. We will give you a few minutes to run over it before we start.” He said and had the papers passed out.

Being the observant person she was, Nicole noticed the encounter between Alissa and Jacob. She raised her left eyebrow before turning back to the director as he handed out the paper that had the lines on them. The other people in line took that as their cue to start speaking out loud, right then and there from the paper. Nicole took about a minute and a half to look at the list. Most of the lines were very basic things like, "She went that way.". There was one that caught Nicole's attention towards the bottom of the list, it made her chuckle softly to herself. The line read. "Dude you just stepped on my foot and spilled my coffee." A lot of people chose to read the first couple of lines as their audition. Some managed to memorize their one line quickly, some read directly from the paper, and others had to glance down a couple of times if their line was longer than a sentence or two. When the person before Nicole had finished her line, Nicole took a deep steadying breath before, contorting her face into an expression that very clearly said "Really dude? Really?" before delivering her line, she added the proper amount of an annoyed tone to her voice as she said; "Dude, you just stepped on my foot and made me spill my coffee." She realized half a second too late that she added a bit more to the line without thinking about it. She forced her face to remain professional as she took another deep breath, and the person on her other side of her started their line, who delivered the same line as Nicole.

Jacob listened as they went through the lines. Alissa was talking and he was paying a little attention to her but he was curious about Nicole. He listened and took notes as they said their lines. He whispered to Henry after Nicole spoke. He thought it was better how she did it. He really liked it. Henry nodded. He had noticed too. “Number 6. Can you please say line set 4 and then 10.” He said to Nicole. He was trying to form some things in his mind. He was thinking maybe a few lines for her. But they would have to figure out how to make that work. He was sure they could. Jacob saw where he was going with this. This would be good. He watched Nicole. He glanced at Alissa who excused herself for a phone call. Jacob listened as Henry had a few others repeat other lines. Just to see where they would fit best. He took notes. “Alright. 10. You are free to go.” He said. He didn’t think they fit in. The woman left. Quite upset. She just wanted to be on set with Jacob. Jacob talked to Henry as she left and asked him something. Henry nodded. “I like that. I like that a lot.” He said. “Six. Please come to the table a moment.” He said. Jacob watched Nicole.

When Nicole was asked to say another line, she felt a slight blush creep up to her cheeks, even though she loved acting, being singled out wasn't always the best thing in the world. For anyone. Nicole took a deep breath before taking a step forward and delivering line 4. It was yet another line about coffee. "Hey! You owe me three bucks for that cup of coffee!" What is this screenwriter's obsession with coffee? she thought to herself before quickly shoving the thought away. She couldn't judge the writer. She had a caffeine addiction as well. The woman who had been given the number 10; Nicole thought her name was something like Lauren or Laurie, was asked to leave and Nicole watched her go. The director quickly caught her attention as he called her to step forward. It took all of her focus not to trip on her own to feet as she walked up to the director's table.

Henry waited for her to get to the table. “You did really well today. If you are up for it, I am thinking about making a small role and at Jacobs idea, I think you would be perfect for it if you are interested.” The director said. “It won’t be much more than a normal extra role but you will have a few more lines.” He said. Jacob looked at Nicole and smiled at her. He hoped she would say yes. It would be a huge opportunity for her. Alissa came back and placed her hand a little too close to Jacob so he moved it a bit to get it a bit farther. He just wasn’t interested in her. She wanted his attention though. Jacob looked at Nicole. “With a movie this big, it would be a huge opportunity for you but you should talk to a manager before you sign anything.” He said knowing she was a little newer to the field than him. Hr hoped she didn’t mind the advice.

At the mention of a small role specifically for her, Nicole's eyes widened in a look of surprise. "Id be honored! I have a family friend who's an agent so I will definitely send the contract to her before I sign anything." She took a moment to turn to Jacob and smile before speaking again to Henry. "Thank you so much for the opportunity. When would you need an official answer?" Nicole had completely forgotten about Alissa until she had returned to the table, Nicole gave her a polite wave and a smile.
