august has always been the black sheep of the
family, and her parents weren't particularly h
appy about it. they spent quite a bit of time t
rying to turn her into someone she wasn't, and
she spent an equal amount of time trying to p

ut of four children she developed a thick and t
ough skin that helped her get through life. sh
e refused to be a stranger to hard work and h

the farm with her brothers or in the house wit
h her mother. though, she preferred to be awa

r. 'i'm only doing what's best for you' she would
say, but august never understood that phrase.
she knew her family was only looking out for t

ฯŸ born and raised in boston, massachusetts to her single dad and younger
sister. her relationship with the two have always been strong and continues to
be strong to this day. she was raised around rock music all her life thanks to
her dad. he was the reason she began drumming at a young age.
ฯŸ kim's personality is both welcoming and rowdy. she's known for being the
energetic member of her band and people love being around her. she's very
talkative and friendly, but isn't afraid to defend herself and others when it's
needed. she's witty, adventurous, and loves traveling with her band.
ฯŸ her clothing style stays black and white. she usually goes through concerts
wearing a sleeveless tee and athletic shorts. kim also regularly visits bars in a
    band tee and biker shorts.
ฯŸ she would rather spend her nights out and about the town her band is in.
you can find her hanging out at a bar or adventuring around whatever city she
    finds herself in next.

there was nothing like the feeling of performing in front of an audience. even if there were only a few people who actually listened, it was enough to please kimberly. no vacancy was a project she started a few years ago with a couple of close friends she made in boston. the three of them decided to leave everything behind to perform a couple of shows in seattle during its rock scene. lucky to say, they were rather successful. no vacancy was able to book open mics in bars and clubs that legendary bands played in before they had their break: nirvana, pearl jam, hole. each concert was different but the adrenaline high was unlike anything she's ever felt before. she loved it and she knew she made the right decision ever since their first show. it wasn't uncommon to see the same three people at each of their shows as they were the first fans they've ever experienced. they felt grateful for the support and it was enough to keep the four going.

after each show, they did a little meet and greet in the alleyway behind whatever bar they performed at. it's how she met some producers who wanted to make the band bigger than it already was. she definitely didn't expect to grow and become big and famous, but she wasn't against the idea either. something she wasn't ready for was the negative comments they received right off the bat. it hurt her to see nasty reviews from controversial reporters, but she tried not to show it. with all the publicity that no vacancy got brought out a bad side to kimberly. it was the week before that she finally decided to lashed out at a group of paparazzi. needless to say, it wasn't her brightest idea. due to her actions, she was on the cover of a couple of magazines with photoshopped devil horns. the band also lost a couple of gigs because of the bad publicity. the other members said they didn't mind, but she could tell that they obviously cared.

a week later, no vacancy found themselves at a small bar in seattle and performed a small set. she didn't show it during the concert, but she broke down backstage to her band members after it ended. a few moments later, she found herself sitting at the bar with red eyes. her finger traced the circular rim of her glass of whiskey and picked up a conversation with the bartender. through everything, she smiled through it and didn't show any of her emotions. kimberly gripped the glass and took another sip of her whiskey before placing it back on the bar. her green eyes took a glance around and noticed a few strangers looking her way. the moment her eyes laid on them, they glanced away. it's all the recognition she's gotten since the small incident. the looks made her feel paranoid. it was as if everybody was judging her and she despised it. she released a small sigh and brought her eyes back on her drink.

it hadn't been too long since august started working again as a waitress at a small bar in seattle. only long enough to recognize what to expect on certain nights, and to somewhat settle into the tightknit group of workers. now, if you were to ask anyone else they would tell you, 'august wright is no people pleaser', and for the most part they'd be correct. that's the best part about finding yourself in a new town with new people. no one knows who you really are. you can be whoever you want to be, and in this new line of work you don't exactly want to be the odd man out. it was a whole lot easier to put out fires and get along with others when you were seen as the sweet southern gal from georgia, and august understood that.

it actually came in handy a lot for nights like tonight. she was told by a few of the other people she worked with that every now and then they'd have bands come in and play, but tonight was her first night actually experiencing it first hand. personally, it was pretty exciting for her because it was a band that she'd grown to love over the year. she would have loved nothing more than to relax and blend into the crowd, but it never works out that way. they were packed a little tighter than usual, and more than once she had to slide over the bar to calm fights that were starting to brew. they always got that look in their eyes that said they were ready to start throwing elbows. thankfully, they never got too far and the crowd started to thin as the night went on.

things always got a little quieter after a certain hour, even though they were practically in the heart of the city. when she was hired on the owners described the place as 'seattle's best kept secret'. they had their regulars who would tend to linger, the drunks who more than likely found the bar after being cut off at another, and then there were the people who seemed like they just liked the company mixed with solitary. a walking contradiction. tonight that was kimberly mays. august would've been able to pick her out of any crowd even if she didn't know for a fact that she was already going to be there. it didn't take a genius to realize there was something eating at the girl, and normally she'd be able to contain herself but once her feet were moving she couldn't stop.

august made her way around the bar with a full tray in one hand, and a stray glass in the other. she'd like to think the little glances she shot in the other girl's direction were subtle, but the look she got from one of the other waitresses said differently. those wide eyed and raised eyebrow looks were probably supposed to stop her from her next moves, but they did just the opposite. first she set her tray down and then she was walking up, propping her elbows up on the bar and leaning over the slightest bit. if there was any time to break out the southern charm this was more than likely it. "kimberly mays, drummer for no vacancy, not quite america's sweetheart..but a sweeheart nonetheless."

august had to press her lips together to hide the amused smile that tried pushing its way to the surface as she quoted an article that she'd read what must've been two or three months ago. though, it seemed like a lot had changed since then. without another thought, she let her hands rest on the bar palms flat and then pushed herself up. "next one is on me, darlin'." and with that she was wandering back over to where she'd left her tray and started unloading and wiping down the various dishes, expecting that to be the end of it.
