Vivian smiled back at Aralynn before letting the seamstress usher her off to change into the gown.
It took quite some time, as one would expect, to get into an elaborate gown. Though, in this case, it seemed well worth it. The seamstress had even helped Vivian clip her her up into the simplest of updos to give more of the illusion.
"Miss?" quietly called Vivian after a while, standing a few feet behind Aralynn.

As for Aralynn's sister, Akira, the blonde was far pickier with her gown than one would have originally expected. If anyone ever dared to comment, she'd say it 'twas simply because she wanted to look perfect for the first ball she'd been to in years. Afterall, it wasn't a lie. It wasn't too long after the passing of the former queen and king of Emberelic that the vampiric activity- which at the time was thought to have been due to animals or some sick, twisted individuals- began. After that started, then came the added security measures. Anything and everything they could do to keep the royal family safe- including holing them up in the castle. With limited visitors and access to the outside world.
But in reality, it was because she was trying to make an impression. Under traditional circumstances, she'd have been more than excited to attend a masquerade, or any kind of ball really, It would've been so fun! But this wasn't traditional. This would be her debut as Lucas's partner in the world of vampires. It would put everyone's lives at risk. Lucas and his family. Her brother. The staff. Everything was risky enough as is without the whole world knowing. Anytime they ever had any guests at the estate, they had to be so careful. Anytime they were out in public, they had to be even more careful. They had to play their prospective roles perfectly. Her, a naive human and guest of the Renier estate. The duration of her stay undetermined due to unforeseen circumstances in her homelands. He, a pureblooded vampire of the founding families, a rather high ranking founding family at that, entertaining his human guests. Any hints of flirtations were supposed to be nothing but a temporary game for him. If they were cat and mouse, then he was the cat- and she, no doubt, was the mouse.
and even if nobody dared to make any attempts on their lives, he would still be judged harshly. They would gaze upon him with a critical eye and spare him no mercy. His reputation would be ruined, and she'd wager it would be far harder for him to keep his command over the soldiers. Without a good reputation, many would dare to try their luck. Heck- there would even be trouble within the manor if they acted carelessly. She had a feeling Lucas's mother had her suspicions, but his father...that was another story. She didn't since any actual malice towards humans from him, but she was under the impression he wouldn't quite approve of things as they stood should he ever find out.
It was all just another game. One of secrets, lies, and charades. Moments of peace and joy were fleeting, for there was no room for such things. Such emotions lowered one's guard- it was risky. A single error could ruin everything.
That's why she had to be so picky when it came to her dress. Why she was so intent on it be absolutely perfect. It was dire that she became the embodiment of grace and prestige. Someone worthy of her -albeit currently secret- title as the Lady of the Renier household. She would do everything in her power to ensure that he would be criticized as little as possible for bringing a human as his guest to the masquerade.
By the time she'd gotten back to the manor, she had to admit she was quite tired. As were the ladies of the manor's staff that had gone with her. They all had to admit that shopping like that had been a fun experience and a good chance for them all to bond. But it was tiring nonetheless.
Once she'd gotten her purchases back to her room, she'd requested for an afternoon tea and some light sandwiches be prepared for she and the ladies who'd gone out with her. It was small, but she still wanted to show them her thanks for going with her.
