Adrian allowed Lucas to take the halfling's hand, and help him to hear the ocean through the shell. He took the liberty of once again cradling the boy like he'd been before- it was a way in which he didn't risk straining the boy's wings.
"It's beautiful. really, more than I-i could have guess...the books...they never said anything about ones in this color- and I can hear it.The ocean. It sounds like the waves are crashing against the shoreline...I wonder if on nice days, people go out and let the waves splash at their legs? I bet it'd be fun..."
his gaze shifted to the glass creature in his hand. " ..What's...that?"
" They said it was a dolphin. That they're fun-loving creatures that love to swim alongside and behind their ships. Their skin is usually a beautiful silver or grey, and they're majestic as they leap out of the water. The shopkeeper even said one tried to race his son's ship once."
"Really? "
"Really.
"I love them already..."
his voice was softer now than it was before, and his tears were still falling. For what seemed like an eternity, he had closed his eyes to listen to the ocean's sounds through the conch. When he opened his eyes again, his attention was on Adrian.
" Mr. Voss? "
"What is it, young Icarus?"
"That song you used to sing me....could you sing it for me now? The one about the king and the lionheart?"
"Of course, my boy...of course." He may not sing often, but he does sing on occasion...granted it was only ever for the boy. Early on, when he'd first been getting to know Icarus, the lad had asked him if he knew how to sing. Said his mother used to tell him stories through her songs. And since, he'd taken up the task.
And so, he began-
"Taking over this town, they should worry- but those problems aside, I think I've taught you well."
" That we won't we won't run, and we won't run, and we won't run. That we won't run, and we won't run, and we won't run."
"In the, winter night sky, ships are sailing- looking down on these bright blue city lights."
"And they won't wait, and they won't wait, and they won't wait- We're here to stay, We're here to stay, we're here to stay."
"Howling ghosts, they reappear- In mountains that are stacked with fear- but you're a king, and I'm a lionheart....a lionheart..."
and so he began his song.
------------
Monster? Why thank you for the compliment, but do you not have anything a bit more hurtful? I really would love to hear it- go on, I insist" he spread his arms out to the side, as if to show metaphorical vulnerability.
Once he felt he'd given her enough time to attempt anything, he stood and sauntered over to her, placing a hand under her chin. "You're not but a human hun. You haven't the faintest idea what all is in the works here, what all is at stake. You play chess while we play the longest game of checkers ever known. "
"If the Pyre should be my fate, however improbable, if it helps my king then it shall be worth it. He is the only one I would ever allow to take my life. "
With that said, he advanced, placing his hands on the wall on either side of Estella. "but I'll remind you I have no intentions of taking your life. And there'd be no point in turning you. No fun in doing that. All I want is a bit of your blood, k? I'm not even uses my powers on you to sway your emotions or anything- you should feel honored. "
