Off in Runemeth, on the outskirts of the town watched over by the Reniers, Orion had found himself lovely young woman to sate his hunger. He'd met her while wandering about, and had been easy to woo even without the use of his ability. A couple of trinkets and a rose, and she'd been willing to follow him to the outskirts for a picnic.
He'd been careful, too. The location was far enough out that unless he really tried, the youngest Renier wouldn't catch scent of her blood. And he'd been even gentler than he normally would, making sure not to allow a single drop to escape him. The less her blood was exposed to the air, the better.
Should he be caught, they couldn't be too mad, right? Afterall, she was still alive- that was something! He preferred draining any of his meals. Restraint was boring. Yet there he sat beneath an old tree's shade, the woman's form resting against him and supported by his arm.
But at least his hunger was sated for the time being. The hunger, thirst, whatever one wished to call it- was such am endless thing. Even if one had fed, soothing the fire through one's veins, relieving the pain and dryness in one's throat- it was still there. It could never be truly sated, at least that's what most described it as. But to him it was so much more. It was like pursuing something unobtainable- and endless pursuit- a void that could never be filled . And feeding temporarily helped him forget about whatever it was in his life that was missing. Something stolen from every vampire, something only mortals seemed to possess. Some vampires, he heard, could get closer to.truly saying their hunger by feeding on certain particular individuals, but he'd no such luck so far- well, there was one exception, but that wasn't important.
On the other hand, it was truly part of the price one paid for immortality- but one he was more than willing to pay. He loved the feel of the hunger, the ache in his fangs when he longed to feed. Even the thrill of the hunt was intoxicating. All proof of his inhumanity. The frailty and human constraints he'd long since tossed aside.
And all thanks to the progenitor.
Perhaps he was insane to have made the deal that night- no, he was insane. But he'd never admit it. He didn't even feel any regret afterwards.
But that was enough pondering for today. He still needed to check in on little Icarus before Rigel and the prince returned. Check in on his progress, and see how easy it was to sneak in without any of the town's governing family present.
