As the small team made their way down the road, she would occasionally catch glimpses of Haruto weaving in between people, but Jinpa had to glance over her shoulder from time to time to make sure Mako could still see them. Jinpa knew she didn't need to worry about him. He was a talented bender, a hard worker and had good enough sense to handle himself. Though, that didn't stop her from looking back several more times to pick out his face, his hair, or his clothes in the sea of people behind her. For some reason, the reassurance that he was still there, made her smile and helped calm her excited nerves. Haruto caught her eyes a few minutes later and she glanced over towards a tall, dead tree. It was clear that Haruto wanted to investigate. She nodded and angled towards the tree, resisting the urge to look back towards Mako. Taking advantage of the emptier pathways, Jinpa picked up the pace a little bit to a light jog. They were less than a block away from the tree when Jinpa slowed her pace. There was almost no one around which meant they had more room to work and fewer eyes watching them, but the airbender also knew that that meant they would be easier to see. All of a sudden, she felt very obvious in her clothing and with her staff.

The tree was large, taller than her (not that impressive), but the most striking thing about it was its bare branches and brittle bark. Why would plant life not bloom? Judging by the other plants and greenery they had seen, it was an isolated incident. Just the one tree, which made this all the more strange. They were losing the last remnants of sunlight and Jinpa glanced over to Mako with a puzzled expression and then met Haruto's gaze. "Why is it dead? Nothing else around here seems to have a hard time growing and blossoming."

      RIKKA

      ═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════
      [ location - Apartment. ] - [ the visionary ] - [ nineteen ] - [ tags - Mirai ]
      ═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════
Rikka stood up as Mirai went to dismiss the group. She adjusted her attire making sure everything was tight to prevent any stupid incidents during battle. She watched as Zyri dragged both Cai and Lee down the stairs, a small moment of nostalgia hit her. She had known Lee and Mirai all of her life although after Mirai disappeared her and Lee slowly drifted away throughout the years.

Lee had joined the BANATA before her and he was pretty quick to recognize her when she joined. Meeting Zyri and Cai for the first time and getting to know them. It took them a while to realize Mirai was the one behind the mask but when they found out everything just felt right. Back then they were just a bunch of teenagers with high hopes of making others see, now they represented thousands of people all across the nations. People looked up to them and depended on them to provide a better future. Today was a step closer to that, they were really going to change the world.

Her blue eyes turned to Mirai as she took out bullets from her stash "You know Mirai, I never doubted the banata movement, but two years ago I probably wouldn't have been able to imagine we'd be this far. Your parents would have been proud" She said giving her friend a pat on the shoulder before nodding to her statement that they should get going. She had met Mirai's parents once or twice before well... tragedy, but even though Mirai might not remember well she knew they cared deeply for her.

Rikka followed Mirai as they exited through the roof. She didn't mind jumping roofs, but if you were to ask her it was simply not her thing. She was more of a dark alley/tunnels type of person. She took off in a sprint leaping off the side of the building on to the next roof keeping up with Mirai's pace.Hear heart sped up as she began to catch on to the jumping pattern, once you started you couldn't stop unless you wanted to end up somewhere with broken bones.

The trick to roof jumping was basically just endurance if you changed your speed at any point it would throw you off balance. Eventually they came to a stop at the roof of an apartment building. She looked over at Mirai as she pointed at the balcony bellow, nodding she jumped down. The sliding door was locked which meant they had to break it, and they had to do it in the most unnoticeable way they could manage. She had an idea but she didn't have water, but she could.... If she had figured out how to take the water out of plants she could take it out of air too, it should be the same movements.

She focused on the humid air around them and began to retrieve the water from it, soon enough she had enough water to cover the glass. She took a small bit of water and turned it into sharp ice, she threw the ice through the window, the water held all the glass preventing it from making a sound, all that was heard was the small thud of the ice hitting the floor. She slowly let the water with the glass down it could potentially come in handy as a weapon later.

Rikka entered the apartment and immediately began investigating. She headed towards the rooms trying to find anything that could give them a clue with what they were dealing with exactly, any IDs or personal information. She opened a bag and found some scrolls inside, curious Rikka picked them up and started to look through them. They were all water bending scrolls, attack moves to be specific. This meant someone was still learning, she knew most of the attacks that were listed, one of them caught her eye. It showed a water bender using water as an extension of their arms. Now that she didn't know.

She returned to Mirai and handed her the scrolls "One of them is still learning, most of the moves are basic attack moves but this.." She trailed off picking the water back up and encasing it around her arm forming the arm like structure. "Thats pretty cool" She said putting the water down careful to not waste much energy before the attack. But she had to give it a try.

      LEE

      ═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════
      [ location - Street ] - [ the warrior ] - [ twenty ] - [ tags - Cai & Zyri ]
      ═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════
Lee was messing with his boomerang when he was suddenly grabbed by the collar. He looked up at Zyri and ave her a sheepish smile before he was dragged down the stairs along with Cai. At this point he just let t happen, he looked up as Mirai told them to be careful, he waved at her and smiled "Please, careful is my middle name!" He laughed as he was dragged out the door.

Eventually he got out of Zyri's grip and walked along with the group. They weren't even at the corner when he heard his name called out. Six kids came rushing towards them, he knew them all to well. They began to tell them about their days each one having an interesting story to tell. He picked up one of the little suckers and put them on his shoulders, as always reminding the kid that his hair was not a steering wheel, but it didn't help much since he felt the hands in his hair anyways.

As they reached the corner of the street he put the kid down and said his goodbye. Looking up as Cai approached telling them what some of the kids had seen. "So the circus is in town?" he said referring to the spirit animals, they would be so much more intimidating if their name didn't sound like a play or a school mascot. That was a bit of an issue.

He agreed with Cai's plan of having Zyri watch from above to make sure they weren't in the streets. "Zyri the minute the princess comes into sight when we are in the apartment chi block her and we get her to the warehouse fast. With the animal spirits around they'll probably check out the commotion its best we avoid them, If it comes to it I can use earth bending to get us out of there fast" he mentioned.

He looked over at Cai as she bumped into his shoulder and smiled. "Would you believe me if I told you I almost threw it the second she gave it to me" he said and started making his way with Cai down the street keeping his cool but still observing the surroundings just in case. It wasn't long until they made it to the location Mirai had told them to be at. "And now we wait" he said leaning against the wall

___As Mako made his way through the streets, occasionally slipping between business carts or various goods and sometimes making his way inconspicuously over a home or two, he always managed to stay in bound with Jinpa and Haruto. The point was to not be noticed by the wrong people, but to also stay far enough back that they wouldn't be seen as a group. Occasionally, Mako noticed Jinpa's glances, at first it was discouraging, does she not think I can do this? he wondered, knowing he had only been studying under her a few months now. He felt he had grown well with his Air bending, but maybe he was wrong? His eyes managed to catch a small smile on her face, however, as she looked back. Maybe she was just making sure they were all sticking together? Mako tried to shove the insecurity of the thought out of his head as he continued forward.
___As Jinpa and Haruto slowed, Mako did as well, occupying himself a good yard or two away from the pair so it wasn't an obvious gathering. He slowly and cautiously joined closer as Jinpa asked about the tree's life. "It's not fire... " he commented, knowing what burnt trees looked like from his own juvenile actions in previous years. "It's like the water was siphoned right out of it," he surmised. "Water bender, I assume," he added. "But why?" Mako asked, his head turning to Haruto to get his opinion, but just as he had, his hand moved to rest on Jinpa's shoulder, as he not so casually looked behind her. Mako narrowed his eyes and took a few steps past the pair, shocked as he saw the entire field had been as dry and lifeless as the tree. "Look,"

shou was more than pleased to hear that his taste had rubbed off on yura, or at least that his convincing skills were top tier. he knew that she would love the sweet just as much as he, though probably not as much. out of all the obsessions he possibly could have, at least this one was harmless to others, but it definitely took a toll on the "lean and slightly muscular" body he had always had. dad bod was not the way to go, but if he kept eating those custards then he would be well on his way to that look in no time. yura paid for the desserts, which he was thankful for since he paid for the dinner. they had a great relationship, one that was mutually beneficial and not one sided. they both brought out the best in each other, kept each other in line, and equally supported each other, whether it be emotionally or financially. it was the friendship of anyone's dreams, and he wouldn't give it up for the world.

yura held the door for him like the thoughtful person she was and even held the tarts on their way home. this gave him the chance to sight see the old city of his without having to worry about dropping the special goods. yura's comment forced a chuckle followed by a shaking head. "not really. it's always busy, even if it's at night. there's different districts that have quieter streets, but most of the fun is around here. plus, those streets are way more expensive. you'll get used to it though, and before you know it you'll be back home in the northern water tribe dealing with...well whatever royal duties your dad puts on you. oh but of course i'll be there to make everything much harder than it needs to be." a gentle nudge to her arm and an equally playful smile flashed at yura as he took out his keys. the apartment wasn't too far away now, so he might as well be prepared to open the door and rush to tear apart the prison that held his custard tart.

approaching the apartment building, shou noticed a couple kids around his age leaning up against the wall having a conversation. they were unfamiliar to him and didn't seem to fit in on this side of town with their clothing style, but perhaps it was just a "fashion statement". whatever, he had more pressing matters to attend to than two hooligans: his tart. he opened the door to the building and walked up the single flight of stairs to the apartment door. keys already in hand he locked it into place and turned it to the right, unlocking the door with ease. "it's nice to have a working lock. back in my years in republic city our house was lucky to have anything that worked." he mentioned to yura before opening the door. what he was greeted with was not what he expected.

two feelings flooded shou in this moment. immediate wishes to engage in a battle with the hooded intruders in front of him and protection of yura. if he was alone he would clearly have chose the former, but yura's safety was his top priority. not only was she his best friend, but her father would absolutely demolish his existence if something happened to her. "yura run." he said instantly before slamming the door shut and metalbending the lock so the deadbolt was damaged. hopefully wrecking the unlocking feature of the door would keep the assailants occupied for a moment while they made their escape. however, what awaited them outside was not necessarily good news either. the couple mentioned previously happened to be more hostile than previously assessed. not to mention there was an additional assailant who popped in from the roof. "oh amazing. leave it to republic city to keep us entertained," he said before earthbending a temporary protective tent for him to converse with yura about a tactical plan. "your safety is my priority. there is no complaining, you need to escape at any chance you get. i promise i will be okay but you have to get out of here." he knew she could handle her own, but there was no telling what these guys would do to her. fortunately, they had no idea about his status as avatar, so he would be more likely consider "worthless."

the sunlight caused her to squint her eyes as they adjusted from near darkness to a bright evening. not the best weather to do an attack in, but it'll have to do. this plan was a go and there was no turning back now. the children that lived near the base ran up to the trio and offered up information specifically to cai for a reward. it was typical of them to do this just for an extra buck or snack. she admired their ability to gather juicy information and often offered them more than they expected. it broke her heart to see these kids suffering in the streets of republic city, and she wanted to do everything she could to help them out. cai had the same idea it seemed, as she emptied her pockets for the young ones. zyri offered the remainder of her coins, too, knowing that they would most likely be back tomorrow with more dirt. their information about another trio walking around the crime scene peaked her interest. she looked to cai and said "we have to be even more careful then. taking on the princess and her bodyguard shouldn't be a problem, but if the animal spirits get involved then we will be outnumbered greatly. i hate them but their skills are impeccable. just keep your eyes peeled." her hand tighly gripped the crossbody strap around her chest as she scanned the area for sneaky culprits. while she didn't have a clue what the animal spirits truly looked like, they knew the majority of their appearances, minus that of mirai with her face mask. they truly could be watching from anywhere without them knowing it.

she took cai's advice and lee's agreement that she should take to the roof. a nod followed by quick scan and she was gone, just like she had vanished. in reality she just dipped into an alleyway and climbed the ladder to the top of the roof, but hey, people believe what they think they see. an aerial view was much more advantageous for a quick scan, but so far she saw nothing. her eyes stopped on a curious trio next to an absolutely dehydrated tree in the park. mmmm that looks like rikka's doing. can't be too sure that those three are the spirits though, they could just be passerbys like the other five people appalled by the disaster. she made a mental note of the trio and proceeded to fly from roof to roof until she approached a shorter building across from the target building. she noted the location of cai and lee, assumed mirai and rikka were already inside, and made camp. she laid down on her stomach so she was flatter to the roof and harder to be seen, but still had a good view of the apartment complex's entrance.

as soon as she saw the targets, they were gone inside of the building. she sent a text to both rikka and mirai prior to their entering the complex to warn them of their arrival. now....she waits. either there would be an explosion or she would soon see the targets again, and it just so happened that the latter option was the reality. she immediately took action as they ran outside, just as lee and cai had done. jumping down and joining the soon to be battle, she was shocked when she saw the boy use his bending to create a protective encasement around them. "mmm, so he's an earthbender. didn't really expect that one but okay. look buddy, you have competition!" she of course was speaking to lee, but saying names was not the smartest decision right now. knowing that this mission was headed by mirai, she waited for her appearance before making a move.

As the walking skunk and who she assumed was the water tribe princess walked by she nudged Lee with her elbow to get his attention. She reached into her pocket to shoot off a text to the group letting them know that their targets were approaching and they were possibly made. She highly doubted it. She and Lee looked like they were simply waiting for a friend to come down out of the apartment. Cai kept her eyes open for any of the animal spirit members which was harder than it should be. Masks were annoying things. She understood why her fearless leader wore one since she had been friends with her for so long, but that didn't mean she liked them. BANATA hadn't had a run in with them in some time which made her worry to be honest. Part of her was thrilled that they didn't have to deal with them but it made her wonder where they were hiding. She knew it was only time that they would crawl out of no where like annoying bugs.

It seemed like everything was going according to plan.... Until it wasn't. When the door to the apartment complex opened up she was shocked to see the water tribe princess and her walking pet skunk run out. She looked over to Lee who looked just as surprised as she did. The furious look on the skunk's face told her all that she needed to know. He knew. She felt rather than saw Zyri land nearby, the three of them surrounding the targets. She couldn't help the giant grin when she saw the skunk earthbend a basic tent around the two of them. They were clearly trying to come up with some sort of escape plan. She knew that Zyri's joke was meant for Lee, but it was encouragement for her.

"An Earthbender!?" Cai cracked her knuckles as she circled the tent. "Whatever will we do?" It had been some time since she went up against another Earthbender even in the underground clubs she used to practiced in. She got herself into a good stance and peeled the walls off of the tent and proceeded to dig a giant ditch around them which she proceeded to fill up with lava. She looked up to see their surprised expressions and gave them a wink. She saw out of the corner of her eye and Zyri had her staff ready as well as Lee with his boomerang. It would only take a few more moments before Rikka and Mirai joined them. She kept the lava flowing around the two to keep it from cooling down. Every now and then she would have a small splash or two reach over the edge close to where the two sat. No where near close enough to touch them, but close enough to warn them against doing any sudden movements.

yura ☁︎ naqi

[gender] female [age] twenty [nation] water [alliance] none yet [ location ] running [ tagged ] shou, banta

Hearing his reply Yura nodded along, though she'd hoped for a different answer she'd guessed that such a lively place didn't ever really die down. There was something about that vitality that made Yura thrum with excitement, a city that never sleeps, she'd have to get Shou to show her the nightlife at some point. At the mention of going home, however, Yura's newfound freedom began to shrivel in her chest. A soft smile on her lips as she was gently jostled Yura rolled her eyes at Shou "you'll always be welcome back home, no matter how much trouble you cause." she reassured him. Looking back over the last four years Yura couldn't even remember what life had been like before she'd met her best friend.
As they reached their building Yura followed her friend's gaze, two figures leaned against the apartment building maybe they were waiting for a friend. Before following, Shou inside Yura shot the pair a little smile and nodded her head in greeting, apparently, it's hard to shake manners you've been drilled with all your life. Catching the door with her shoulder Yura slipped inside the building still holding onto their tarts. Catching up to Shou at the top of the stairs Yura raised a brow "How..." her question dying on her lips as Shou seemed to freeze. Trying to peek over her friend's shoulder the princess didn't even get to see what was happening when Shou muttered a single instruction that sent chills down Yura's spine.
Stumbling backwards and back down the stairs, Yura could hear the crunch of metal and then footsteps behind her as Shou followed her out. Her heart hammering in her ears Yura practically flew out the door only to be stopped in her tracks as a figure jumped off the roof joining the pair she'd seen earlier. Did they know? That was impossible, they'd only arrived in town today and hadn't even announced their arrival to the council yet. Before anyone could approach the pair walls of earth rose up to form a shell and Yura knew it was Shou. Turning to face her friend Yura took a deep breath in and pushed down her fear to clear her head. Though she wanted to fight him on his plan Yura knew better than to argue at this moment, there was no time and being outnumbered the princess knew she'd only serve as a distraction for Shou. Realising she'd been crushing the pastry box Yura grimaced and let it finally fall from her hands, "After we meet up let's actually enjoy some tarts," she said forcing a smile onto her face, "like that time we snuck out of my father's birthday party." she added her eyes sparkling with certainty. That night they'd stolen a plate of sweets and snuck off to watch the moon rise over the ocean on the city walls. Though she wasn't home if she could get to the bay it might be the perfect place to hide.
Without warning, the walls of their shelter were peeled back and Yura found herself on her feet, squinting as a blast of heat washed over her. The red hot glowing liquid surrounded them in a tight circle effectively trapping them on their patch of dirt, glancing around her Yura's eyes landed on a hydrant and though she couldn't see it she knew that water was just underneath. Though her fingers were shaking Yura hoped that it would disguise her plan as she slowly felt the pull and pressure of the water against the metal hydrant. With one sharp sweep of her arm, the hydrant exploded up into the sky as water burst forth flowing into an arc that Yura flowed into the ditch over the molten rock immediately billowing smoke and steam into the air with a powerful hiss. Using what little water was left Yura formed it into an ice ramp and launched herself into the chaos of the street landing amongst the crowd and stumbling on her feet. Without even a glance back Yura took off down the street knowing that Shou would be alright and that her only goal was to get the bay. Even if she didn't know exactly where she was going Yura kept running her legs and heart pumping. Taking a sharp turn down another street the princess could only hope she was going the right way, relying on her intuition to lead the way.

haruto kuroda

[gender] male [age] twenty-one [nation] fire [alliance] animal spirits [ location ] dead tree -> the roofs [ tagged ] jinpa, mako

Finally reaching the end of the street Haruto crossed the green and stopped just sort of the patch of dry and grizzled plant life. Even a single spark would set this area aflame it was so dry, the only question was why. His companions were already gathered around the tree voicing their musings to which Haruto could only nod in agreement at the conclusion. Though he'd only read about the practice in old tomes recording the hundred-year war there were accounts of water benders who in desperation would use water from plant life to fight back against their enemies. There was definitely a powerful bender amongst the Banta members, "Even if they're a powerful bender, they also seem unstable." Haruto said under his breath. All of these actions seemed impulsive and though that would make them easier to find it also made them dangerous.
Taking a step onto the dead grass Haruto heard the crunch of the dead blades under his shoes. The dark-haired man had a sense that they'd reached the end of the road, looking around there were no more clues as to which way they went except back into the city that grew dark silhouetted against a sunset sky. About to suggest that they give it a rest for tonight a loud boom caught the man's attention as he saw a plume of water rise over the tops of buildings before being brought back down by what had to be a water bender. Could it be the same one? "Let's go spirits." Haruto said jumping into action setting off back towards the city and in one fluid motion pulling a mask out of his bag and sliding it over his face. Rather than fight the crowds Haruto jumped and at the same time propelled himself upwards with a small burst of fire from his palms to land on the roof where he continued to run now seeing white steam spiralling into the sky.

The bark of the tree seemed so brittle and empty, and Jinpa had to tear her eyes from the broken branches and chipped trunk. The conclusion that Mako came to made sense to Jinpa. There were no signs of firebending or anything of the sort, and Jinpa had heard of certain waterbenders possessing the ability to perform such a feat. It was possible (and even quite likely) that the bender who lashed out with ice earlier was also responsible for this, however, neither incident made sense to her. They seemed to be random and served no purpose. Haruto came to the same conclusion she did but voiced it first. With a short nod, Jinpa glanced at Mako as he touched her shoulder before following his finger to the dry grass. It was very surreal, seeing a completely dead patch of grass in the middle of a city while it was surrounded by healthy plant life. With the fading light, Jinpa took in her dehydrated surroundings, doing her best to memorize more than what it looked like. She could almost sense the intentions and emotions that were etched into the scene. It was an act of aggression, a lashing out of anger and it gave Jinpa chills, even in the warm evening air. That only reinforced what Haruto said about this bender being unstable. Whoever they were, Jinpa was worried that there would only be more serious incidents if they remained on the loose. It wasn't their job to catch and arrest criminals, heck she didn't even fully agree with the police force in the city, but the young airbender felt it would be safer to get this individual off the streets and away from the public and its citizens. As she rose to her feet and brushed some stray grass from her robes, a loud boom rattled the air and she whipped her head around to see a gush of water soar straight up into the air before being brought back down. Could it be the same water bender? If that were the case, it seemed like there would be more citizens caught up in their rage if they didn't act quickly. Continuing his habit of being faster than her at voicing their thoughts, Haruto called them to action and was already off on the rooftops. She followed after him, pulling her own mask out of her bag that hung from her shoulders.

Darting down a side alley, Jinpa took advantage of the lack of people to lift herself onto the roofs. As she let the air currents lift her up, Jinpa quickly removed her traditional robes to reveal an all-black outfit that covered most of her tattoos. She had done this enough times to have it down to one basic, fluid motion. When she landed on top of the building, she continued her pace, following Haruto, who was just ahead of her. He was sort of illuminated by the streetlights below them but silhouetted against the wall of white steam that was rising into the air. What was going on over there?

___Mako's eyes furrowed at his friend's statement for a moment. Unstable, he knew Haruto meant no harm, but when he had to think of it... was anyone really all that stable? Mako wondered what his friend thought of him, the fact he gets so out of control in the Avatar state his hair goes white and eyes go red- it isn't actually the picture of control, not to mention, most every element Mako wielded needed work, all apart from Fire, that is. "You're right... but that doesn't exactly narrow it down," Mako sighed, his right hand cupping his chin momentarily as his eyes moved over Jinpa, who he hoped was more observant than the both of them.
___Before she could open her mouth, however, and the eruption of panic and fear seemed to take off not far from them. As Haruto called them to action, Mako pulled his mask from the holster under his shirt before he assumed the identity of the white wolf. Quickly, Mako trailed after the two, keeping an eye on their surroundings while Haruto took the lead into battle- it did bother him some, but if he was already at the back, he knew he had to do what was best for the group. More spirits would definitely be helpful in this situation, he thought to himself with a smirk. Close behind Jinpa, and a bit further from Haruto, who was in front, Mako's icy blue eyes caught sight of a girl running away, and attacks of molten lava following quickly after.
___Dropping down from his bounding of rooftops, Mako began sliding down the shingles of one of the roofs, Mako tried to slow himself with a burst of air before he landed just behind the girl. She looked familiar, though he couldn't quite remember from where he wanted to reassure her things would be alright, but as usual, he needed to remind himself, Animal spirits do not speak,. Not speaking to or around the citizens was the only way to remain completely anonymous and to stay safe. Turning on a heel, Mako began the whirlpool motion Jinpa had taught him with his arms. His right circled outward, crossing over his left, as his left did the same in the opposite direction, before raising both to the sky and sending a powerful wall of air crashing down to the ground and with a mighty push, it directed towards her attacker.
___Mako had never fought lava with Air before, nor had he attempted to in general, but it seemed they would soon need assistance from a water bender for this type of fight- if only he could just get the other two elements to cooperate. The avatar motioned for Yura to keep going, hoping she had the good sense to leave him behind to fight off whomever this was that was chasing her.
