male / female | staffordshire terrier x labrador | two months | where;; camp | tags;; puppies, remedy, bentley
eyes bouncing from shiloh to bentley, he wasn't sure where to go or what to do! shiloh spun around in search of his brother. he hadn't had a good wrestling match with sammy in a while, and it was about time he won against the other male puppy. shiloh caught sight of the pup, seeing that he was laying with marie. shiloh released a huff while watching them. honestly, he didn't like marie much. she was without a doubt the most whiny puppy in the pack. she drove him crazy with the way she'd cry throughout the day and night to their mother. whether it was because she was tired, hungry, or just upset because of something her siblings had done. deep down shiloh loved her, and he wouldn't let anyone hurt her but she annoyed the heck out of him. he was almost scared to touch her, knowing she'd find something to whimper about sooner or later. the male's attention lingered toward millie, his partner in crime. she was climbing up onto bentley's back and had successfully balanced herself on him. the male gave a playful growl. he stalked towards her, body low to the ground. shiloh opened his jaws and took her by leg, pulling her off of the bernese mountain dog's back. it wasn't easy, but he managed to pull her to the dirt. the pup hurried to pull himself up, pawing and clawing into bentley's thick fur with plans to make the dog his throne. he'd quickly decided that whoever could stay up on that throne the longest would be crowned the alpha. finally stealing his spot over bentley he looked down at her with an unmistakably smug look on his face. "sit and stay, omega! i'm the real alpha of this pack!" shiloh growled at her, feeling like he was on top of the world. he snickered, planting his paws deep in the dog's fur to prepare himself for her revenge. the pup had forgotten all about what remedy had scolded him for just a few moments ago, until he paused and saw her gaze. he could practically feel her eyes burning a hole in him. shiloh offered a hesitant wag of his tail, hoping she'd let them get by with it. they were awake and out of the den now, weren't they?

marie curled up beside sammy who had come over and laid with her. she rested his head over him, listening quietly while mother dog spoke with bentley. marie watched warily as shiloh crept up on millie. the pup would have warned her sister, but her rambunctious brother couldn't be stopped. the female watched in horror as he yanked her off of bentley's back and she hit the dirt with a thud. it looked like it had hurt, but it wasn't uncommon for her siblings to roughhouse and get -what marie would consider, violent. her wide eyes were switched from millie to shiloh as he pushed his paws into poor bentley. the female crawled away from them with her tail tucked, always hoping the same thing- that she wouldn't be caught up in their fights. she let out a soft whine, making her way over bentley's large front paws and resting against his chest fur. she could still hear her violent siblings wrestling from the other direction but at least she wasn't to where she could be injured by them. the pup looked up to bentley with rather worried eyes thinking that maybe he could help her.

remedy nodded with a bright grin towards the male. "well, you know how they are." the mother laughed. they weren't a problem for her, but always a handful of course. they really did bring a light to her life, and the other pack dogs. her mind wandered while she allowed the puppies to run around and have time to speak with bentley. if one of the puppies were in reach she would have groomed them, though since they weren't she began to groom her own paws. she groomed them slowly, realizing the bottom of her paws had become a little softer. that could happen after staying cooped up in her den for a week. remedy really missed hunting with a group. ever since her puppies had transitioned from drinking milk to gradually learning to tear though meat, she had enjoyed exploring and finding prey with the rest of the pack. on top of having the adrenaline from a hunt, she got a short break from her litter. remedy absolutely loved being around them, though she also loved having time to herself without getting her ears and tail chewed on every five minutes. while watching her puppies bound around the staffordshire realized something. when they were walking up to greet him, he really seemed like something was on his mind. she wasn't sure what, though. remedy gave a slight glare to shiloh when she noticed him rough housing with millie again. despite shiloh not following her directions from earlier she didn't intervene just yet. they weren't getting out of hand and they were out of the den now. she'd stop them if they got too rough. bringing her attention up to bentley again she looked at him with a gaze that apologized on it's own, without words. thinking back to the way he seemed lost in thought when they came up she spoke up. "we weren't interrupting anything, were we?" truthfully, remedy had a lot on her mind as well. it seemed everyone in the pack did lately.

cedar watched his paws for a split second, avoiding some fallen twigs that could have been a pain to step on. he leaned into bella gently, leading her around them so neither of them would walk over the wood. his actions towards the retriever showed how much he cared for her. he showed this each and every day in little acts of kindness and letting her know he would be there to talk or listen when needed. cedar had never delayed caring for his friends and bella was one he held very close to his heart. bentley and the others had always been appreciated by him, but there was no doubt that he and the female had something special between them. his ears raised a little, listening to bella closely while she spoke. he swayed his tail once again, comforted by what she told him. easing into his steps he quickened their pace ever so slightly. cedar's nose twitched, searching for the scent of the field while he walked along. it had always been so beautiful and such a safe space for him to go. if cedar was ever missing from the camp when things weren't going well for him, he could be found basking there. he was never one to ask for help until it became urgent. burdening others with his problems wasn't something he ever wanted to do, and avoiding that was something he'd become very used to. so accustomed to that half of the pack members never would have guessed anything was ever troubling him. the field was an easy get-away instead of talking to others.

while imagining the field and how beautiful it would be in the early morning, he came to a slow stop. cedar could see that a large tree had fallen and was blocking the path. the terrain on the sides of the path were very bumpy and rugged, so he definitely didn't want to take a chance with his hips by finding a way around it. he guessed it had somehow fallen when the catastrophe came along. the male shifted on his paws, carefully looking over the branches that were sticking up from it. they were sharp, and the tree was rather large so he and bella would have to be careful. cedar gave her a gentle smile through his hesitance, determined to reach the field. "here, you can follow me." it wasn't too long before he found a clear spot to jump over, but he guessed there wouldn't be much jumping. he placed his front paws onto it and pulled himself up with as much strength as he could build. cedar grunted and grumbled, nearly taking a tumble as he came down the other side. he looked ahead, seeing a clear route on the rest of the path. the elder turned around, placing his front paws over it to get a look at the retriever, who was still on the other side. "right here bella, you can do it." he encouraged with a slow wagging tail. he backed up a little, giving her space so that she could get over.

Cassie had wandered the forest for quite some time, before padding back toward the camp. Her eyes were lowered and focused on the ground as she padded onward. Perhaps, things would be better once she returned to camp. Despite having the few dogs that had survived the fire, to Cassie it still felt like a lot was missing. That the pack wasn't fully complete. Her paws crunched softly, on the undergrowth mostly twigs and some ash that had been blown over by the wind. She stopped and looked at her ash covered paws. Normally, her paws were white but now they were a dark grey. She decided she would go and try to find some water to wash her paws in, even though ash would begin to cover them again shortly afterwards. Lowering her snout to the ground she began to sniff around hoping to come across the scent of water.

Due to the ash that laid on the ground, Cassie had to often resort to following the scents carried on the wind. Finally, she came across a small puddle of water and dipped her paws in it. She didn't dare drink from it though, as she knew ash and possible other things were probably in the water. It wasn't as clear as she would like it to be, but it would do. After her paws had returned to their normal color she turned away and began to head back towards camp. Her ears pricked as she wondered what the rest of the pack was doing. They should be up by now, either by themselves or by Remedy's puppies. She didn't have anything against Remedy or her puppies. As a matter of fact she loved playing with them. This brightened her mood as she quickened her pace as she bounded toward the pack's makeshift camp. It wouldn't be long, before she'd get to see those pups and perhaps even get to play with them as well. Of course, Cassie would have other duties to preform as well, but there was always something to look forward too. Wasn't there?

It wasn't long, before Cassie bounded into the camp panting. Her brown gaze scanned the camp, before falling on a group of dogs. Bentley was currently speaking to Remedy as her puppies crowded around Bentley. Well all except for Marie. That puppy had always been a bit different from her siblings, a lot more calmer and quieter. She then glanced around for the older dogs of the pack Bella and Cedar. She didn't see the dogs anywhere. Perhaps, they were still in their dens or had left the camp. Not wanting to disturb the two other dogs who were talking Cassie laid down with a yawn, watching the pups play.

The large male's ears pricked as Millie climbed onto his back, he turned and snapped playfully at her, before returning his gaze to Remedy. He nodded at her words, smiling. Puppies were a great joy from what he heard, but a lot of work. He knew that one day though all of the puppies that ran around him now would grow up to be loyal packmates. It was hard to imagine though, especially with Shiloh and Millie. The two were always roughhousing which while the male had no problems with the two play fighting he knew with roughhousing it could easily get out of hand. His gaze shifted to Shiloh who was currently stalking towards his littermate who sat on his back, before stopping and grabbing her by the leg. He managed to pull her into the dirt and pulled himself onto Bentley's back. His ears pricked at his words and he chuckled softly, before gazing down at Marie who had placed herself between his large paws. He rasped his tongue over her head, before leaning down toward her and whispered, "It's alright. They, won't hurt you. I'll make sure of that." He had a particularly soft spot for all the puppies, but a special one for Marie. She was gentle and sweet and it broke his heart every time he heard her whimper. He returned his gaze to Remedy who gazed at him with a apologetic eyes. At her words, the male's ears pricked and he gave her a small smile. "No. I was just thinking. Ever since, the lost of our alpha everyone has been pretty well...lost. I hate to see everyone like this. No one knows what to do, and we need someone to tell us what to do. We need someone to show us the way to thrive once more. Like our alpha would have." he said in a quiet voice. He truly wished the alpha was still here to lead them onward to thrive once more.

The puppy nuzzled his sister as she curled up beside him. His ears twitched as he gazed around the camp, listening to the conversation between the two older dogs. His gaze turned toward Shiloh who was currently stalking toward Millie. Perhaps, he should go over and interfere with what they were doing. Of course, that was his brother. When Shiloh decided he was going to do something, he was going to do it. Still, he watched as he dragged Millie off of Bentley's back and into the dirt. His tail twitched as he itched to go over there and join in on the fun. He watched as his sister crawled away and over to Bentley. He decided that he would just lie here, since his other littermates were currently fighting over who was alpha and who was omega. He rolled onto his back, his belly still puppy pink. He began to squirm on his back, yipping a bit as he pawed the air. Suddenly, he heard a rumbling sound and he glanced at his belly. Rolling over he bounded over to his mother pawing at her. "Ma! Ma! I'm hungyyyyy. Can we eat now?" he said, beginning to dash in circles once more yipping before stopping in front of his mother, his brown eyes gazing up at her.

Millie laid on the large male's back, before rising to a sitting position. Her eyes glowed as she sat there being up higher then she had ever been in her two months of her life. She could really be alpha if she sat up here. Her gaze scanned the camp, before landed on Marie and Sammy. The two were curled up together which wasn't anything new. Out of all of them Sammy spent the most time with Marie. It wasn't that Millie didn't like her sister it was just...she would cry so much. She could do one thing and it would set her to whimpering and crying. However, she would protect Marie with her life if it ever came to that point. She was loyal to all of her siblings even Shiloh. Just not when it came to alpha. Suddenly, something grabbed her leg and she was pulled off of Bentley with a yelp of surprise. She hit the ground with a thud, scrambling in the dirt before whipping her head toward where she had been lying a few moments before. It had been no other than her brother of course. She growled at his words, rising to her paws and turning toward him. Even though, she was upset that her spot had been taken her eyes still glowed with a playful light. "Oh, yeah? Well, this 'omega' is coming to get you!" she yipped, climbing up Bentley's side once more and nipping at her brother's ears. She wasn't going to let her brother take over that easily. Alpha's had to learn how to defend themselves against others and this would be good practice.

The retriever continued onward alongside her friend, her eyes gazing around at their surroundings. While there was probably no threats here, ever since the fire she still wanted to be the first to know if danger arrived. She and Cedar were older which meant it was a lot less likely for them to fight off a threat let alone without getting a few injuries. She felt Cedar lean into gently as he lead them around some twigs. She smiled slightly, remembering her words from only a few moments ago. He truly did care, even about the slightest things. Even though, stepping on a twig might not be as bad for a younger dog it could certainly be painful for a older one. Her thoughts returned to the field that had been so beautiful all those years ago. She wondered if it would be just as beautiful now as it was back then. Bella would often go there when she was stressed or just wanted to relax for a while. And sometimes she would just sit there in silence, listening to the birds sing, the hum of insects, and just clear her mind after a hard time. She now wanted to see the field even more, to remember all the times she had been there.

Bella continued onward her thoughts still remaining on the field. She was so caught up in her memories that she almost didn't notice that Cedar had begun to slow. She slowed down, before noticing exactly why he had stopped. A large tree had fallen onto the path and was blocking their way. She stared at the tree, wondering how they would get past. They certainly couldn't go around it. She turned to Cedar at his words, and followed the male slowly. Not long afterwards they came to a clear spot. A dog would have to jump over, but at their age there wouldn't be much of a jump. She watched warily as the male placed his paws onto it and pulled himself up. Her ears twitched as she heard him grunt and nearly flinched as he almost tumbled over. She soon saw him on the other side, and her ears pricked at his words. The female slowly padded forward placing her paws onto the fallen tree. She breathed in deeply, before pulling herself up with all her strength. Her back legs scrambled against the tree, her claws scratching on the bark, but managed to get over. She almost stumbled as she landed on her paws, but managed to keep her balance. She turned her gaze to the male offering a thankful smile, before padding to his side. She continued onward and her gaze scanning their surroundings. Finally, she saw what marked the entrance to the field. She quickened her pace, before turning back toward Cedar her tail swaying slowly. "This is it Cedar. The beautiful place we've known for years." she said, with a small smile and a nod and turning around to see the field just as she had remembered it.

shiloh snarled at millie when she came after him, aiming to kick at her with his back paws. despite his efforts, he missed and she crawled up to join him on the throne. the pup batted a paw at her, nipping the air close to her face with intentions to win his rightful ranking. shiloh couldn't believe she wasn't giving up yet. he looked at her with narrowed eyes, thinking that she'd need to accept her fate soon enough. of course this was all just playful bantering between the siblings and he didn't aim to injure her. she got a grip on his ear but he toughed through the feeling of her teeth pressing into his skin. the male yapped and lashed around to get a hold of anything he possibly could. he took a good chunk of her scruff into his mouth and he began to chew down on it. "miwwie! ou can't be apha, ou're a girh!" shiloh remarked, his words muffled by a mouthful of her fur. he tugged his sister's scruff harshly, managing to pull her off of bentley's back. while she tumbled down he forgot to release, though. the pup ended up rolling down with her, whether he meant to or not. he crashed head first into her, knocking the wind out of both of the puppies. shiloh stepped off of millie and took a second to catch his breath. his eyes shone with a hint of concern as he looked down at her. an expression spread across his features that clearly said "whoops, sorry." their wrestling matches could quickly get out of hand, but he never meant for them to. he swayed his tail slightly, hoping she'd be just fine.

-shiloh got distracted when his brother spoke up. hungry? the pup hadn't thought of eating today with as much fun as he was having playing with his sister. when his sibling mentioned food, he couldn't help but drool and soon realized that he was hungry too. "yeah, I’m so hungry I could eat a whole elk!" he shouted, swiping a tongue across his maw to take up the drool that was now dripping. shiloh suddenly felt like he hadn't eaten in days. they'd only had very small meals lately, and shiloh knew that his mother said they were all growing quickly so they'd need to eat to keep growing. his gaze followed down to his large paws. the pup needed more food than voles and squirrels to share with his siblings.

marie lifted her head as bentley leaned down to her. after hearing his words she felt a little more safe, so she nuzzled up to him and took a deep breath. the chocolate pup listened to sammy mention about his rumbling belly with slightly perked ears. big brown eyes trailed to her plump belly, and she waited a few moments. even though she was quite the chubby pup, she could feel her tummy rumbling as well. marie was always hungry it seemed, and she often missed the days when she could curl up close to her mother and fall asleep while she drank milk. prey tasted better but wasn't as convenient to obtain. besides, she struggled the most of the puppies to tear meat apart for herself. remedy didn't usually mind helping her, which was fortunate for marie. the puppy wondered if their mother had buried some food outside of the den for them, which she did most times the pack went hunting. although marie didn't like to shred prey, she'd take anything she could get. the female turned to remedy and her sibling β€œmother, I’m hungry too.” she whined solemnly.

the female stayed silent for bentley to speak. halfway through what he told her, remedy's ears fell low. she didn't want to be grouped in with what he'd said. the pack did seem that way. lost.. that's exactly how she felt, she couldn't describe it until now. remedy nodded slowly, but couldn't find the words to respond to him. she didn't know how to help him with his problem, because she was in the same boat. she decided that remaining quiet would be best for now, it'd be okay not to respond. remedy almost feared that if she tried to she wouldn't be able to stop herself. the mother dog forbid herself to speak about her deceased puppies and that she was grieving. especially around the litter she still had. her attention had been averted from the bernese mountain dog for some time and remedy forced a smile when one of her pups trotted up. she was glad to have sammy come over to keep her from feeling any sadder than she had already gotten. instead of saying one of his many famous phrases about playing, running, jumping or doing some other fun thing he told her he was hungry. in fact, he asked if they could eat in that moment. gosh, she didn't want to answer this either. the other puppies chimed in, each one complaining that they were feeling hungry as well. poor pups. remedy knew they didn't have any food left over at the camp but she couldn't just tell them that. "well..um..i-." the female struggled to get an answer out, seeing that all of the puppies were watching her expectantly. "i suppose i could..go hunting for you. i don't think.. i don't think there's enough here. for all of you, i mean!" this wasn't a lie, but she was absolutely tip-toeing around the fact that they had no food. it was just so difficult to find prey once it started getting colder, and remedy hadn't been in the mood to hunt for the past week. no one was.

"oh no..." he sighed, feeling solemn and rather nostalgic. he began to regret not coming here more often while he still could. cedar's eyes wandered towards the furthest part of the field and the horizon. it was full of grass! he perked his ears some, realizing that a section of the field was still very much intact. that could surely spread and the part that looked ruined could be restored if nature allowed it. "look out there!" the male woofed, nudging her with his shoulder. he could remember that the field went much further than what they could see, and he began to think that there was plenty more of their special spot left just the way it was. cedar wanted to go, but understood that it'd be too risky for them to go that far. especially at their age. he laid down in the dirt, looking to the sky and grass with contentment.

    ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Cassie watched two of the pups play fight against each other, reminding her of her puppyhood when she had done the same with her own littermates. Her thoughts began to wander to the puppies once more, and she wondered if she would ever have her own one day. She had met a dog once that she had like quite a bit, but couldn't bring herself to admit that to him. She soon found out he had a interest in Remedy and the two soon became mates and had puppies of their own. She didn't hate Remedy, but she was certainly jealous of her family. Perhaps, it wouldn't have worked out anyway due to her forever wandering away she probably wouldn't have made a good mother anyway. But it still didn't help make it any better. Cassie soon rose to her paws, and slowly began to approach the small group of dogs. The camp was eerily quiet without the numerous sounds of other dogs. Compared to their old camp and before the fire there would be a lot going on at the moment, but now with their being so few dogs after the fire the camp seemed like only a shadow of its former self. Her ears pricked as she stood only a few paces away from the group, before hearing that the puppies were hungry. There was no food left in camp, so someone would have to go and hunt. But someone would have to stay and watch the puppies while the rest of the dogs were gone. Since Remedy, seemed to be leaving to hunt she suppose it would either be her or Bentley since Bella and Cedar weren't present at the moment. Quickly padding over she yipped a quick greeting before speaking. "Sorry to jump in like this, but if you need someone to watch the puppies while your gone I'd be happy to do it." she said, her tongue lolling out of her mouth as she stood there. Her tail swayed slowly, as she waited for the female's reply. If, she said no she would just have to wait for another time to watch the puppies. But she was sure that time would be now.

Bentley sat in silence gazing at the female with wide eyes. She hadn't said anything after what he had told her and that worried him. Perhaps, this was worse than he thought. Was the pack even more worried than he had thought? He knew Remedy must be especially, since she had to raise puppies during these hard times. With only a selected few to hunt, scout, and protect the pack it was a lot of work and took a lot more time which often lead to everyone being much more tired then they usually were. He could still feel Shiloh and Millie roughhousing on his back, before the extra weight fell off of him. He turned and glanced at them for a moment hoping they were alright. Turning away from the puppies he watched as Sammy trotted over to his mother and saying that he was hungry. Soon enough, the other puppies chimed in with the same response. They were all hungry. Bentley turned toward Remedy watching her closely as she explained that there wasn't enough prey left in camp for them all. That was true. There was no food in camp at the moment, and they would have to go hunting to get some. He just hoped they would be able to find more than a few squirrels and voles. That certainly wasn't enough for growing puppies let alone a full grown dog. Just then Cassie padded over joining them, asking about watching over the pups while they were gone. He stayed quiet since this was Remedy's decision. They were her pups after all so the male sat there watching the two females, his tail swaying slowly.

Sammy listened intently to his littermates words, as they all announced the same thing. Everyone was hungry! When would they eat? He skittered around in circles again, stumbling a bit due to his clumsy paws. Even though, he was two months old Sammy was still getting the hang of moving around on his paws. His ears pricked at his mother's words and he tilted his head as he came to a stop. There wasn't enough food here in camp for all of them? Why not? Thinking back to their last meal, he remembered that they had begun to eat quite a bit more than they had since they were only a month old. He wouldn't mind going back to those easy times when food was only a few pawsteps away. Sure, he would have to fight through his siblings to get there, but he wouldn't mind the easy food. His attention was caught by Cassie who had approached the group and was asking about watching them while his mother left to hunt. He assumed Bentley was going with her, but the male hadn't spoke since Cassie's arrival. Sammy rose to his paws taking a few steps toward the other female his tail wagging in the air like a flag.

Millie continued to bat at her brother with a paw, and nipping at his ear. She wouldn't give up that easily. She was confident that she would be alpha after this. She finally caught his ear, and bit down on it though not very hard. She simply held it in her jaws applying little pressure. She grinned as she held her brother's ear, before being grabbed by the scruff. At his muffled words she growled, "Owh yeah? I'll sho ou who can't be apha!" she muttered. However, she was tugged quite harshly, before she was pulled of Bentley's back and tumbled down alongside her brother. Her brother crashed into her, and she gasped as the wind was knocked out of her. She was dazed for a moment, before shaking her head and slowly rising to her paws. Millie's ears pricked at her littermate Sammy's words and her tail swayed once. Just the thought of food made her mouth water. She hadn't eaten all day! She was starving! She yipped her tail now wagging. "I'm hungry too, I'm hungry too she yapped, before falling silent as she listened to her mother. They would have to go hunting. Her attention was caught once more by a new figure that was approaching, before recognizing it as Cassie. At her words, her ears twitched and she turned toward her mother waiting intently for her reply. She didn't have anything against Cassie though she wondered what her mother's answer would be.

The retriever continued onward alongside her friend as they approached the entrance to the field they had known for so long. If, Bella had ever had puppies she would have taken them here many times. She believed that everyone should know about this special place. However, herself and Cedar were really the only dogs who came here. Her ears pricked as she padded through the entrance and closed her eyes as she breathed in deeply, hoping to catch that wonderful scent that had been her for as long as she could remember. But the scent that she caught was anything but. Her eyes shot open at Cedar's words and she gazed around in shock. Ash covered the field making it look dull and lifeless. There was no grass or flowers. No butterflies or birds. Everything she had been hoping to find was gone. She stared her eyes seeming to lose their glow. Not only had the fire taken away their packmates, their old camp, and so many other things but it had taken away one of her most precious memories. She was silent for a few long moments, before hearing Cedar's words. As the male nudged her she turned her gazed toward the furthest part of the field. It was green! There was grass over there! Perhaps, all was not lost. She wanted to run out there and see for herself, but there was no chance of that. Not now anyway. It would be too dangerous. If, there happened to be living creatures out there there could very well be threats out there that dogs their age wouldn't be able to defend themselves from. She laid down beside the male, her tail swaying slowly. "Do you believe that the field isn't fully destroyed? That over there lies something we don't know of perhaps?" she asked the male quietly, her ears pricked as she waited for his reply.

the male brightened up more when millie came to his side. he was relieved to see that she was fine. his tail wagged quickly while he looked onwards to his mother. his head tilted heavily to the left when remedy answered. they always had enough food! not only that, but his mother had hesitated and stuttered through what she told him. shiloh glanced to millie briefly, his brows furrowed together. what was going on with remedy? the male found that his ears were dropping as his concern grew between his mother's switch in attitude and the fact that there wasn't enough food for all of them. shiloh just couldn't hold back his tongue, and felt the need to question his mother since no one else was. "but i'm hungry right now!" the puppy barked impatiently, not wanting to wait for his mother to go hunting. from what he'd seen it always took forever for the pack members to come back with meals. his paws shuffled around in the dirt, growing antsy for her to give him a proper answer. shiloh's attention turned from his mother to a new dog approaching. he instantly recognized this dog as cassie, one of the newer dogs in the pack. she'd come in just a short time (days/weeks?) before the fire happened but the puppies always enjoyed seeing her. he bounded over to the spaniel with sammy, but was unable to beat his brother to her. he paused at her words, but his tail continued wagging. watch them? he knew it was no use trying to argue with remedy about him coming to help. she never let the puppies go hunting and shiloh doubted they'd ever get the chance. he didn't mind staying with cassie if he needed to, she was usually pretty fun to be around. the pup listened to his mother for what she had to say.

marie didn't sense the change in her mother's expression, not this time anyways. she was just glad to hear that remedy was willing to go hunting for them. it was upsetting to know that remedy would be leaving for a short time, though marie was comforted to see that bentley would be staying. the pup turned her head up once more to nuzzle bentley's face affectionately. the sun was shining brighter through the trees onto the camp now. it warmed her fur some, but wasn't enough to keep her from wanting to stay cuddled up in the bernese mountain dog's thick fur. her head turned suddenly at hearing a voice arise, one that wasn't from her siblings, mother or bentley. it was a springer spaniel, one of their fellow pack members. marie hadn't interacted with the spaniel as much as the other puppies had since she was the most reserved around unfamiliar dogs. it took the little female time before she would become comfortable around any new face. her brothers rushed over to the springer spaniel with wagging tails and barks of joy but marie was motionless. she pushed against the larger dog's chest a little more as if trying to hide herself. the pup didn't want to greet the female dog due to her shyness and was content enough with bentley watching her. she listened to her mother's response silently. just then it dawned on her. bentley was going too? how could they both just leave her here? she pushed herself up with her front paws, slowing coming to sit. the puppy pressed her cold nose into the other dog's fur with a few quiet whines. pulling back, she looked at him with sorrowful eyes. β€œplease don't leave, mister bentley.” the pup woofed. marie could see remedy beginning to stand from the corner of her eye. β€œmother??”

with shiloh's impatient words she sighed. he'd just have to wait, whether he liked it or not. remedy offered a smile to cassie, who had stepped into sight. listening to her words remedy instantly felt better. that was one less thing she had to worry about, and one problem taken off of her shoulders. she was still a little worried to leave the puppies here but they needed food. her gaze fell to bentley. she'd gone hunting with bentley plenty of times before and perhaps they could stop for a moment and talk about what was troubling him. she silently told herself she'd consider mentioning her issues as well. it would be difficult, and she didn't want to burden him on top of everything else that had happened. it could help to get it off her chest though, and if anyone was going to listen to her it would be him. besides, she didn't get much one on one time to talk to bentley out of the pups' earshot.

"yes! thank you, that'd be really great. bentley, would you want to go with me?" the terrier barked. she inspected each of the puppies for some short time. the two male pups really seemed to perk up upon seeing cassie. millie didn't run over with them, but remedy knew from past experiences that millie wasn't particularly apposed to the spaniel. most of them seemed to enjoy her company. she lifted herself to all four paws, shaking her coat and trotting over to millie, then cassie. remedy didn't hear marie's quiet pleas as she passed. it was easy for the shy pup's voice to be drowned out against the sound of her boisterous siblings. remedy took millie by the scruff and headed in cassie's direction. she set the female on the ground beside her brothers and cassie, who were all standing by eachother. "i know they can be a bit of a handful. millie and shiloh have been wrestling a lot lately, you can tell them to stop if they start doing that. i'm sure they'll be on their best behavior for you though.." looking down to the pair, she expected them to do as they were told by cassie. they were only having fun, but even puppies needed to practice their manners.

his tail swayed faster as bella perked up, looking across the same place that he was. maybe they could go there with the pack someday, or as a team on a day that their muscles were loose and their bones didn't ache. if, that day would ever come. he wished for that kind of day soon. it'd be getting colder and they'd be lucky if that grass didn't die before they came back. for now, he could just appreciate how it was in the moment. there were so many possibilities of what could be over there and it brought new hope to his heart. he shifted towards the retriever after she took her spot next to him, taking in her warmth while they watched the sun come up together. if bella wanted to go back to the pack's territory he'd go, but he silently hoped she'd want to stay for at least a little bit. they could talk about life, about their own plans within the pack or anything else that came to mind. cedar pushed against bella's fur, feeling that there was no better place for him than at her side. he rested his head over her paws, continuing to focus on the sky. he had such a fondness for bella that couldn't be explained. every time he thought about bringing it up his mouth would tingle and go numb, his stomach would twist in knots. he felt the same way the first time they met. it was confusing and strange for cedar. he opened his mouth to speak something of those feelings, but quickly forced some other words out of his maw. "what do you think is there?" the male asked quickly, picking up his head and motioning to the part of the field with grass in it. that was a good save, but he didn't like that he had to do that. it was really nice being honest with bella about everything else in life. this, this was different though. cedar knew he was acting foolish and felt like some love sick pup.

Cassie watched as Sammy bounded over to her, his brother not far behind. The two seemed very eager to meet her, and her tail began to wag. Cassie was a fairly new member of the pack, only having been there for a short while, before the fire happened. She yipped a greeting to the puppies, before turning her attention back to Remedy. Her ears pricked at the female's words and Cassie brightened. She would get to watch the puppies! "Of course!" she barked, sitting down her tail still wagging. What fun this would be! She watched as Remedy carried over another one of her puppies Millie. Her and Shiloh would get in a lot of trouble with their roughhousing. They could get a bit rough, but she loved to play with them. They had so much energy along with their brother Sammy. At the mother dog's words she nodded with a smile. "Of course, of course. Don't worry I'll make sure everyone's fine." she said shooting the puppies a grin. Her gaze wandered over to Marie who was currently still with Bentley. She hadn't joined her littermates as they came to greet her. She tilted her head a bit, before turning back to the puppies. She couldn't wait to do this. This was the closest she could get to taking care of her own pups. They, weren't hers, but she would have fun watching them no doubt.

Bentley watched the puppies skitter over to Cassie with excited yaps. The female was fairly new, only having been a part of the pack for about two weeks, before the fire happened. He felt awful that shortly after joining she had to go through this. He felt even worse for the newer dogs who hadn't survived the fire. His gaze traveled to Remedy as she spoke sounding grateful for the offer. He knew that Remedy cared deeply for her puppies, but even she needed a break ever so often from them. He suspected that something was on her mind as she hadn't seemed like herself lately. At her words, he nodded but didn't say anything. He watched as she brought her puppy Millie over, before he heard Marie's quiet words. "I'm sorry Marie." he said, struggling to form the words. She sounded so upset that he was leaving. It broke his heart to say these words, but he needed to go hunt. "I have to hunt for the pack. Every dog has to do their part. Cassie will take care of you. Don't worry about your littermates everything will be fine. I'll be back before you know it." he said softly, before slowly rising to his paws. He then turned toward Remedy and approached the female. "I guess if your ready to go we can." he said, before falling silent. He glanced back at Marie hating to leave her. If, it wasn't so dangerous he would have brought her along. Turning away, he padded away heading out of the camp. His large paws slowly began to pound on the earth as he quickened his pace slightly. He then slowed as he began to sniff out prey. Perhaps, he'd find something better than a squirrel or vole today. He hoped so. Turning back to Remedy he spoke. "If, you find anything let me know. Especially if it's something strange." he said in a low voice, before turning back to his hunting.

Sammy listened to his mother's words. They were going to stay with Cassie! His tail wagged, but slowed as he turned to look at his other littermate Marie. She didn't look happy like the rest of them that Cassie was going to watch over them. Well, happy like him and Shiloh. Millie didn't look happy about it nor upset. He wondered what they would do though. Perhaps, they would go on an adventure! Sammy's eyes brightened at the thought of leaving camp. Of course, that wouldn't happen more than likely, because if something happened Cassie would have to tell Remedy about it. Unless they didn't get into trouble. But by the way the other dogs had been acting he knew that the chance of puppies leaving the camp as about as much as a dog jumping into the air and flying away. Actually, perhaps he should try that someday. He had seen birds, and butterflies do the same thing. Birds just hopped and flew while butterflies didn't do anything. He wondered what it would be like to see things from above. He realized that he had been staring at the sky for quite awhile, and shook his head before turning his gaze back to his littermates. He watched as Bentley and Remedy left the camp and they were left alone with Cassie. He guessed that this meant the fun was about to begin.

Millie's ears pricked at her mother's words and she yipped in protest as she was carried over to the other female. She wondered when she would be able to go with her mother on hunting trips. She wanted to hunt, especially those pesky squirrels. Anytime she saw one she would chase it, but would never catch it. She glanced around wondering where the two older dogs Bella and Cedar were. She hadn't seen them all morning. Her gaze turned toward her sister who was still with Bentley. She hadn't joined them which was just like her. She rarely ever joined them in anything even if it was 'safe'. Perhaps, as they got older she would join them more on things. But part of Millie feared it would only get worse. The only sibling that she played with more than the others was Shiloh her partner in crime. She loved all of her littermates though and would do anything for them if it came to it. She would protect them with her life, even though she would probably never admit those things out loud. Her gaze trailed toward the entrance as Bentley and Remedy left the camp. Turning back to her littermate Marie she saw that she looked just as upset. Perhaps, during their time with Cassie things would get better. However, she doubted that anything would happen between them.

The retriever laid beside the larger male, her brown eyes seeming to glow once more. Perhaps, one day they could adventure over to that far part of the field alongside their pack. If, they were younger Bella would have wanted to just go over there now. However, they were much older but she always believed that it was never too late to achieve your dreams no matter what your age. Some things anyway. As she gazed out into the far part of the field memories of how the entire field used to be rushed back to her. Perhaps, it was just like that over there. Perhaps, there was mountains, flowers, birds, springs. There could be so many beautiful things over there. It brought her hope to think of such things. As she watched the sunrise along with her friend, she wondered if she even could leave this spot. Even though, most of the field they could see had been destroyed by the fire there was a sense of peace her beside her friend. She felt like she could sit here forever and never have to worry about anything again. That she could be happy here forever. Truth be told Bella had fallen for Cedar quite awhile ago ever since they met. Her fondness for the male only grew everyday. Bella had tried to get herself to admit her feelings, but it had never worked. She would end up stumbling over gibberish and end up embarrassing herself. She rested her head on the male's shoulder before pricking her ears at his words. "Perhaps, we already know." she said quietly. "Perhaps, it is just like the field we used to know with its own surprises. Perhaps, its filled with streams and flowers, with mountains and meadows. Truly, it could be anything Cedar." she finished with a small sigh. Her words sounded almost like a dream to her, but many things did until she actually saw them come true. Bella knew one thing though. Whatever was over there it had to be something like out of a dream.

he listened to the conversation between his mother and the spaniel. his eyes shot back and forth after each one spoke. they'd get to stay with cassie, hooray! he was still a little perturbed about the fact that he didn't have food but tried to lighten himself up, thinking that remedy would probably come back as soon as she could to feed his hungry siblings. the puppy muffled his giggles as remedy swept up his sister in her jaws. mother dog came closer, and shiloh batted a paw at millie as she dangled from the larger dog's mouth. "who's the alpha now?" he whispered once she was placed by him and his brother. shiloh grinned at her, his tail wagging as always. he really did enjoy her company whether they were playfully bantering or just hanging around each other. millie had to be the most fun of his other siblings. sammy was okay, but marie was out of the question. he followed his sister's focus to his other female litter-mate. shiloh released a puff of air upon seeing the expression on the chocolate puppy's face. ugh, she always had to be the center of attention, didn't she? as his mother came down to swipe a tongue across his face he stumbled back, trying to dodge her drool with a look of disgust. "okay, mom. we'll be good for miss cassie, bye!!" the male yapped. he was in quite the hurry to get his mother to start moving, knowing that the sooner she left the sooner they'd be satisfied with full bellies. shiloh turned to cassie and gave her a bright grin, "whatcha wanna do today?!" he barked, play bowing towards her. they might as well have some fun while remedy was gone!

marie nodded slowly along with what he told her, beginning to understand why they were leaving. luckily, bentley's kind words made her feel very reassured. she stepped away steadily as he started to move in the other direction. she watched him, trying to hold back her quiet whimpers. they needed to get food, and they weren't leaving the puppies all by themselves. remedy trusted the spaniel, it seemed. marie tried to comfort herself with the fact that mother dog wouldn't leave them with someone she didn't know or trust. strolling over to her group of siblings she met with her mother. she nuzzled into her short fur quickly before her mother pulled away, leaving marie with such droopy ears and a tail tucked under her belly. marie couldn't manage to take her eyes off of bentley while he and her mother left. soon, they had disappeared into the trees. the pup felt like she was all alone, being abandoned by her family even though her siblings were right there behind her. some short moments after they left marie turned her attention to cassie, examining the dog's features without a word. it wasn't that she disliked cassie, but marie was always so terribly shy around new dogs. any dog she hadn't known for a while would think that marie just didn't like them. she glanced to her sister with a heavy sigh, plopping down on the dirt and rolling over so that her belly was exposed to the sun. she thought about her mother and how long it would take them both to return, how chilly she was without sharing the warmth of bentley's fur, and how much she wanted to go back to their den. marie's snout bunched up when she heard her tummy growl at her again, demanding food at this moment. the pup looked to her group of siblings upside down, waiting a few seconds before speaking up. β€œstill hungry.” she woofed simply.

she shot an empathetic look to marie, her gentle eyes falling over the puppy when she joined the group. remedy could tell that the pup was upset but didn't know how to help her. they were hungry, and the only way to get food was through hunting. once bentley came to her side she took a deep breath, swaying her tail so the pups could be a little more reassured. she stepped forward to lick shiloh's face along with millie's, nuzzling the other two puppies gently before she stepped away. remedy's gaze landed onto cassie and she took a slightly more serious tone. "just- just howl for me if anything happens. i'll come back as soon as i can." the mother barked. she really hoped that the puppies would be okay and that cassie could take care of them. remedy had doubts about leaving her puppies with any dog in the pack, but that was just how she was as a mother. being a little over protective was better than not caring at all, she assumed. the staffordshire terrier turned on her heels and trotted off with the male. once they had exited the camp she lowered her nose to the ground, breathing in and taking the scents of the forest. she nodded at bentley's words, barely able to take her attention away from the dirt. hunting was a really exciting thing for her to be able to do, especially since she'd been stuck in her den for so long now. she really missed hunting with the pack, and now it was just her and bentley. she made sure to stay close and pay attention to where she was stepping while they trekked. remedy only paused for a split second to speak up. "thanks for coming along, i just can't seem to get a break from the pups half the time."

cedar was glad she didn't mention his weird attitude when he asked her that. now wasn't the time to put any problems onto bella, especially with everything going on he didn't want to create something else for her to deal with. her words flowed smoothly, sounding like music to his ears. he closed his eyes and could imagine everything she mentioned, and more. the old dog had traveled around a lot in his life, so he'd seen a lot of beautiful scenery that couldn't be forgotten no matter how late in his years he was. he'd been very accustomed to traveling in his younger days and really did enjoy it. after the fire what he missed most for the first few days were the fresh scents of their territory and the constant movement of the pack dogs around them. the puppies absolutely contributed to that movement, which- for a while he hadn't been fond of. now he appreciated that they were there to keep the pack's spirits up and he wasn't sure how they'd be getting along without the positive attitude of the litter.

he made long eye contact with bella, admiring her constant warm expression. it never failed to make him feel well. eyelids growing heavy he set his chin on her paws again, letting her rest her head over his. he pulled his paws close to his body, shifting to get comfortable by her. "mm hmm." he finally agreed. cedar wasn't focused on the field anymore, he focused on the golden retriever instead. the male breathed deeply, beginning to fall into a state of unconsciousness. they deserved to rest after their little adventure.

Cassie watched as Remedy said goodbye to her puppies and soon after left with Bentley. She turned back to the pups carefully looking them over. Alright. It was time to look over these puppies. At Shiloh's words she wondered what they could do. Leaving the camp wasn't an option the other dogs would surely freak if they found out she had taken the puppies out of the camp. And besides. Having to watch for puppies (three who happened to have a lot of energy) was going to be a lot of work. But she could manage it. If, she couldn't she wouldn't have asked to watch over the puppies. She decided it was best to let the puppies decide what they would do. Puppies had the most fun ideas anyway so why not? Turning back to the puppies, she tilted her head a bit, before speaking. "Well, since I'm just watching you all for a bit, why don't you talk among yourselves and decide. As long as it isn't anything dangerous of course." she said with a nod. She wanted to make sure the puppies had a great time while Remedy was gone and she was sure this was the way to do it. She then heard Marie's words and turned toward the puppy. "Don't worry. Remedy and Bentley will be back as soon with food." she said in a soft voice, before turning back to the puppies.

Bentley smiled a bit at her words, and gave a slight nod. "Of course. Every dog needs a break at some point. But I fear that we'll be getting even less breaks now..." he said quietly, as his words trailed off into silence. What Bentley meant was that since, there was only a limited amount of dogs that could hunt and scout for the pack each dog had to do more work than ever. The jobs that multiple dogs did previously, before the fire now had to be done by five dogs. Once the puppies grew they would be able to help out, but it would be quite awhile before that happened. They would also need someone to teach them. He knew that the duties that had to be carried out by five dogs was a lot on their shoulders, especially for the older dogs Bella and Cedar. Both of them were up in age and they were already having trouble doing things without pain. He hated to see them taking on these duties, but truthfully no dog had any choice if everyone wanted to survive. A scent caught his attention and he noticed a squirrel a few paces away its back turned away from him. Before the fire Bentley had never thought any dog could get tired of squirrels, but now he wanted to see anything but a squirrel. He wanted prey that would actually fill the bellies of his packmates. With a sigh he lowered himself toward the ground and began to stalk toward the unsuspecting prey, before leaping into the air. His jaws snapped on empty air, as the squirrel darted away with a terrified shriek. He growled, before turning away hoping to catch something else. He glanced in Remedy's direction making sure she was doing alright before lowering his snout to the ground and hoping to catch another scent.

Sammy darted around, before running in circles at the mention of what they were going to do. His ears twitched as he came to a stop. Perhaps, they could do what he was thinking about just a few moments before. All they would need was somewhere high enough to jump off of. Perhaps, there was something even better though. Like maybe going to swim! He had seen the older dogs do that plenty of times. "All you have to do is jump in the water and kick your legs" was what they had told him when he asked. He swiped his tongue over his muzzle as his belly growled again. Whatever they were going to do they would have to do it soon so that way he could get this hunger off his mind. Sammy had not eaten a proper meal in awhile. No one had. With a quick flick of his tail he turned to his brother waiting promptly for a answer from him.

Millie had watched her mother leave alongside the larger dog Bentley. She hoped they would be back soon. Everyone else looked fine that they were going to stay with Cassie for awhile. Except Marie of course. Millie had seen her reaction as Bentley left and was probably whimpering. She had finally come to join them and was currently on her back. She hoped they would get to do something fun and Marie wouldn't ruin it as usual. She began to wonder about what they should do. Perhaps, they fight for alpha just like she had done with her brother earlier though Millie was already tired of losing for today. She would prove herself at some point. She decided to leave the choice to Shiloh since he was the one who asked. Her ears pricked at her sister's words, and she rolled her eyes as Cassie spoke to her. She just couldn't have a single moment without attention let alone food could she? Millie sighed hoping that her mother and Bentley would be back soon. Really soon.

Bella continued to think about these places and what it would be like to be there at this very moment. There would be so many things to do, she thought before speaking in a quiet voice. "Perhaps, there will be fields and meadows to run through plenty of space for the puppies to play and explore. Plenty of places for us to hunt as we did before. Mountains for us to gaze at their beauty, while we could swim in the streams, rivers, and ponds could serve as places to drink and swim. Flowers to smell their beautiful scents, and green grass as far as you could see. Truly, it could be a place that-" Bella stopped talking about what could possibly lie on the other side of the field, as she made eye contact with Cedar. Even though, he was older and while his gaze held a softer light his gaze still held a sense of strength that she knew hadn't left the dog. Finally, she rested her head over the larger male's her gaze still fixed on the field. Perhaps, one day they would go over there. Perhaps, one day they could travel and truly find the beauty that lay over there. But for now she turned her gaze away, with a yawn her eyes beginning to close. Her tail wagged once, before she fell asleep right there beside her old friend. It was a perfect time to spend time with him and focus her attention on the older dog. Theym deserved it after all. Because who knew what they would endure together next.

      xxxxxSHILOH & MARIE
      _____________________________________________________________________________________________
male / female | staffordshire terrier x labrador | two months | where;; camp | tags;; family, bentley, cassie
the brute grinned, flashing a proud look to each of his siblings when cassie looked to him for a plan. he never got to choose what they'd do for fun, so this was a great opportunity. he fell silent for some short time, scanning the camp for anything fun that they could do. he and his siblings could practice their strength and go try to lift the branches that fell from the trees. maybe, whoever carried back the most branches would win. shiloh was always up for a challenge. they could play tug of war with the branches, they could wrestle, maybe they could even explore outside of the territory! shiloh's thoughts were interrupted when the sound of marie complaining behind him rang in his ears. he was quickly reminded that they couldn't do half of the things he was thinking, considering his sister would either tell their mother on them or she'd get terribly upset by their antics. maybe it'd be better to think of something they'd all enjoy, or some activity that marie wouldn't start fussing over. his eyes trailed to cassie and then, he thought of a brilliant idea! they could sit down and tell stories, each puppy could tell their own and even the spaniel could join in. boy, did shiloh have some great stories in mind already. it was possible for his idea to be dismissed since it didn't involve wrestling or exploring but he knew this was something they could all do and everyone's eyes were on him. "well.." the puppy started, looking to his brother with a wagging tail. "we could all tell stories to each other, like we used to!" he woofed, remembering when they were even younger and their litter was fuller. remedy was much happier at that time and would often tell them bedtime stories. shiloh had more fun stories in mind, though.

marie frowned a little, waiting for at least one of her siblings to agree. perhaps they'd already forgotten about how hungry they were a few moments ago. the female couldn't seem to get her mind off of her belly though. it ached and grumbled, beginning to cause her discomfort the longer she went without a meal. it wasn't like she'd gone forever without eating, but it sure did feel like it. whether she'd been provided with food two hours beforehand or an entire day, she was always so hungry. with a puzzled look she watched cassie, still upside down it looked like the spaniel was defying gravity. how soon? minutes, hours, days? did cassie know, and if so then how? all were questions marie would have asked if she was nearly as outgoing as her litter-mates, but since she wasn't the pup just stayed quiet. for once, shiloh had suggested something that marie would want to join as well. she rolled over and brought herself to her paws, taking some short time to adjust her sight again. being upside down made the ground seem to sway beneath her feet, and the forest looked to be distorted, spinning round and round. her gaze followed the trees, slowly making her turn all the way around until she had plopped back down. she blinked quickly in attempts gain her balance and keep her vision in check. at last it had adjusted, and marie waited patiently for her siblings' next words.

Cassie glanced between the pups, smiling a bit as Shiloh flashed his littermates a proud look. He really was glad to be making the choice and that his littermates were letting him. This reminded Cassie of her own puppyhood when she had fought against her littermates to make certain choices though it was all in good fun. Most of the time anyway. She then began to wonder what the puppy would decide on. Whatever it was going to be she hoped it wasn't going to be anything dangerous. Her ears twitched as a slight breeze ruffled her fur. Normally when there was a slight breeze like that Cassie was able to pick up the scents of the forest including prey even if it happened to be a bit of a distance away, but now she smelled ash and a faint trace of smoke, though the regular forest scents had begun to return as well. The spaniel wondered just how long Remedy and Bentley would be gone. Hopefully not too long. She knew prey had begun to come back, but it still wasn't nearly enough to feed them all let alone four growing puppies. Perhaps, she should have gone hunting with them, but then there would have been no one to watch the pups. Unless of course, the older dogs were here. She hadn't seen them all morning. Perhaps, they had gone hunting as well though she doubted it. Wherever those two were she hoped they were okay. Her thoughts about the pack were disrupted by Shiloh's voice and she turned to face him. At his words, her ears pricked and after looking over each puppy's reaction she nodded. "Why of course! Stories sound like a lovely idea. Now who want's to go first?" she asked her eyes scanning the puppies, before landing on Marie. Perhaps, she should give the shy puppy a chance. "Marie how about you go first? You haven't spoken about anything since about being hungry." she said, tilting her head a bit, before waiting on a reply.

Sammy waited patiently for his brother to answer. Perhaps, they really would go on a adventure like he wanted too! However, his brown gaze soon landed on Marie and he sighed. If, anything it wouldn't be an adventure. He loved his sister and was more gentle with her then his other two littermates, but he still wished they could do fun things together. His gaze traveled over two, before falling Cassie. Perhaps, she would be more willing to take them out to do fun things than their mother. Remedy used to take them to do things, but ever since the fire she had seemed more distant and didn't seem like herself. She also seemed to be a bit more protective of them than before, but that probably wasn't surprising since it was probably due to the fire. Sammy's ears pricked at the mention of telling stories and he yipped his agreement as he sprang to his paws. At Cassie's words he turned to his sister, tilting his head a bit. He knew that she would never ask to go first, let alone with another dog watching. He padded over to her side and said softly, "If, you don't want to go first I can." he said, before turning back toward the others his tail giving a short wag.

Millie wondered what her brother would say they should do. Perhaps, wrestling or tug-of-war, but she doubted it. As she glanced at her sister she only wished she could be a bit more outgoing and more willing to do things that required a bit more...guts. She never took any risks and what was the fun in life if you never took risks. Truly, now she was thinking like her brother Sammy which she quickly pushed away. He was always saying they should take a risk every once and awhile due to his reckless nature. However, she wasn't afraid to take risks. Perhaps, that is exactly what they would do. Take a risk. However, how would they do that if Marie was with them. There was no way they could do anything fun with Marie was there? However, her ears pricked at Shiloh's words and she couldn't help but smile and wag her tail. Finally! Something that Marie couldn't whine about. It was safe and no one would get hurt telling stories! She sat down, before glancing at Marie when Cassie asked her if she wanted to go first. Would she? She doubted it. She was too shy and probably wouldn't even speak to the female. She sighed, before flopping onto her belly waiting for the stories to begin.
