indentromeo gave his son an encouraging smile as he finally passed up the bear. romeo set it on the chair beside him. he’s never had to yell at sam or act demanding to get him to do something. granted, he’s never particularly asked anything of him but he didn’t want to be the type of parent where the child grows up to fear them because of how angry they can be. he watched as rosie lit the candle on the cake before he quietly sung along. he could hear lana join in and a grudging anthony. once they finished singing, lana bent down a little bit. “can you make a wish, sam?” it’s not like they really expected him to because of his age, after all, but any sort of action they can draw out of sam to get him to enjoy himself was welcomed.

Sam looked confused at the request, obviously not understanding the question. It was to be expected given his age, so Rosie leaned down next to him, blowing out the candle softly, before pressing a kiss to her son's cheek. "You have to keep your wish a secret, or it won't come true," she said quietly to him, even though she knew he wouldn't understand. With the candle blown out, she straightened up and began to cut the cake, putting a slice on each plate.

indenthe watched as rosie blew out the candle for sam, who obviously was confused about the request. the cake was then cut into respective slices for everyone, including sam. romeo accepted his plate, looking down at the cake before he internally sighed. he caught anthony out of the corner of his eye. he had no idea why anthony seemed so irritable tonight but it was beginning to rub off on romeo. it was strange how that worked, that anthony could be mad about something and that same anger would eventually transfer to romeo from just being around him. the cake looked pretty good, though and he wondered if it was store bought or if rosie or lana made it.

Rosie helped Sam eat his slice of cake before starting on her own, wiping frosting away from his mouth with a napkin. "Well, this was a pretty successful birthday party, wouldn't you say?" She said to no one in particular.

indentromeo tentatively began to eat his slice of cake. he watched as rosie wiped some frosting away from the corners of sam’s mouth, the baby eating his dessert as sloppily as ever. the teddy bear still sat slouched on the chair beside sam. he quirked a brow at rosie’s question, one that seemed more rhetorical than anything. “i think it went well,” lana responded when the men remained silent. it went as well as any one year old birthday could go.

Rosie finished her slice quickly, it had been awhile since she'd last had something so sweet. It was a store bought cake, since Rosie hadnt found the time to bake and didn't want to tempt Lana to do yet another thing for her. It was chcolate, the frosting rich and creamy and Rosie was tempted to have another piece once she was alone to her devices. Maybe she'd watch a show or something once Sam was in bed, have a night to herself where she didn't pass out minutes after Sam did.

indentromeo only ate half of his slice of cake. despite developing a sweet tooth after he achieved sobriety, he wasn't much hungry right now. it was amazing how he hasn't gained a large amount of weight with all the desserts he liked to eat but considering he found himself too tired most nights to cook - and the fact his cooking skills did not encompass a large amount of recipe knowledge - he supposed it balanced out. lana put her plate in the sink after she was done with her slice, taking anthony's plate from him to do the same once he was finished. everyone had finished their slices apart from sam, who had quickly grown to make a mess and destroyed his slice to where it wasn't even a feasible slice of cake anymore. at this point, it was just a pile of frosting goo and cake.

Rosie watched Sam destroy his slice, shaking her head fondly, "should've waited to give you a bath until after cake," she mused, knowing she should've predicted this would happen. Not that Sam wasn't used to multiple baths a day, he was quite the messy child after all. Hopefully he'd grow out of it, eventually. Or at least take a break from it until he could bathe himself.

indentsam would definitely need a bath after this. however, he looked pretty happy to just make a mess out of the cake and not even really eat it. romeo watched him silently before he tried to get the baby's attention, "hey, sam." the baby looked up at him from his mess of a cake. romeo reached down into his own plate and got some frosting on his finger from his half-eaten slice of cake before he used the frosting to draw a make-shift mustache above his upper lip. it wasn't the most amusing thing in the world but it certainly drew from amusement from sam, who began to giggle in response. he most likely thought it was funny just to see romeo get frosting on his face; babies were easy to please. and romeo liked making sam laugh, especially how he seemed disgruntled earlier when rosie tried to take the teddy bear away. "you might as well sit in a high chair, too, since you're just as childish as he," anthony told romeo, going over to him and dropping a napkin on top of his head.

Rosie laughed at Romeos antics, amused by his attempts to make Sam giggle. "I don't care how dirty you get Romeo, I'm not giving you a bath as well." She joked, helping Lana finish clearing table and placing the cake into the fridge.
