Karkat, noticing Dave not eating much, gently reach across the table and tapped his hand gently to get his attention. He didn't want to keep asking Dave if he was okay, so he just fave him a small smile, trying not to stress him out.

Dave flinched and looked up, but calmed down when he realized that nothing was wrong, and just simply smiled back.

Karkat ate the last few bites of his food, and then leaned back in his chair. As he sat there, he realised that this was probably the first time he'd ever seen the real Dave. Even on the meteor, Dave had always tried to look confident. It was strangely nice to just sit in silence with Dave, and he felt hopeful that the two of them were bonding, even if Dave did seem slightly upset.

Dave felt like he was about to fall asleep or faint at any moment and tried taking deep breaths to try and stay awake.

Karkat looked up, and noticed Dave looking strange.
"You don't look good, are you okay?"

"Yeah, you don't have to keep worrying all the time," Dave sighed.

"Okay," Karkat murmured. He didn't believe a single word of what Dave was saying, but he said nothing more, really not wanting to ruin this new friendship with Dave. He called the waiter over to pay for the meal, and then got to his feet, ready to leave.

Dave took a few seconds to stand up from his chair and prepare to leave. He looked at the plate that was still covered in the food he had ordered.

Karkat headed out of the restaurant, checking to make sure Dave was with him. Out on the street, he turned back in the direction of their house.

(no worries about being late, I'm going to sleep now anyways)

Dave tried to catch up with Karkat, trying not to trip at the same time. He scratched at his elbow awkwardly.
