[ "have a little faith in me, okay?" ]
"i'm okay," faith breathed, swallowing dryly as he pressed his hand to his hip. he angled his back away from the wall, doing his best to ride the waves of pain that throbbed up his side as they ebbed. "i just fell. i'm okay."
his head ached, and he could already feel stiffness and soreness beginning to take root as he finally came down enough to move forward and open the bag, rooting through it. his hand found the flashlight, and he clicked it on, turning to shine it over siren's leg.
oh. oh god. it looked a lot worse than it had felt, which was... good, honestly. the heat of the skin wasn't telling of a deep infection, and as long as he could get it cleaned out and stitched up they had a fighting chance. it would leave a scar. a nasty one, for sure, but they didn't have a choice.
"...listen, i have to close this up. okay? i need you to stay with me. don't pass out." she was clearly in shock--the last thing he wanted was for her to lose consciousness and not be able to regain it. "it's gonna hurt, but the stitching won't be nearly as bad as cleaning it. hang in there."
he set down the flashlight, keeping the beam of it over the wound so he could see, and gently picked through the remaining contents, producing a small box, a bottle of antiseptic, and gauze. this should do. cautiously, he popped open the cap on the cleaning agent, before glancing back at her. "you can hold onto me, okay? dig in if you have to. just hang in there."

-----──────------❛ siren lily luss ❜-----──────paragraphsiren's entire body writhed uncontrollably the instant the cleanser made contact with her wound.
paragraph a cry of agony came unstifled from her cracked lips as they ripped apart. it was instant - the black spots dancing tortuously in her vision and she squeezed her eyes shut. a second swab of her calf. she tried to hold her breath this time, clenching her teeth and her head rocking back, exposing the glistening sheen of sweat on her pumping chest. her fingers searched for some relief and found his leg, seizing it the second they were there. she could already feel the dizziness dragging her consciousness away, but faith's low voice played tug-of-war.
paragraph "captain amer- america..." she whimpered in between pants, trying so hard to stay with him. "you always hated him..."

He flinched visibly at the sound of his name, eyebrows raising in discontent. Why had he even given her his name? He could’ve just left himself as Relic. He pulled a face at her. “Yeah, you got me darlin’, I was planning on nyooming us full speed straight through a building and a horde."
Riley dashed out the door before he even had time to react or retort to her comment. His lips curved back into his trademark grin. Relic pumped his fist in the air excitedly as he stopped beside her, his voice enthusiastic. “Let’s go steal a dead person’s car!”
Getting wet from the rain was inevitable, but he just hoped it wouldn't take them too long. He didn't know how waterproof his backpack was, but he knew exactly how non-waterproof some of his things were. Relic started towards the door but then backtracked, walking backwards to stand beside Riley again. “Wait, I want my gun back.” he told her seriously. No way there weren't zombies nearby out there, not after all the yelling.

"captain america?" faith couldn't help the short laugh that escaped him. his head hurt, siren's nails in his leg hurt, and he was worried as hell, but the words caught him by surprise. "yeah. well, i mean, i don't hate him, but he's pretty much just a glorified bag of muscle with a chiseled face. he's not exactly unique. he's like. a great value brand thor." he wiped away the last of the antiseptic, before pouring some into his hands, making sure to cover every inch. he didn't have gloves, and the alcohol burned at the scrapes in his skin, but he didn't mind. it wasn't anything compared to what siren was going through.
gently, he took out one of the needles, and the coarse thread in the box. they weren't sutures, but they'd have to do. this wasn't the kind of thing you could just superglue shut and wait for it to heal. carefully, he went to work, his motions methodic and clinical. he'd seen it done before. he'd done it before, more than once. this was something he knew, and his fingers immediately stopped trembling. he didn't hesitate, didn't slow down no matter how much siren cried out, or how the groans and scratches of the undead howled over the wind and rain. it hurt. it was going to hurt--so faith owed it to her to be steadfast.

"Oh man, come on. That's just dark." She shook her head as she glanced back at him. "I'm sure they prefer something more like..mentally incapable." Following closely behind him, she giggled. "You would fit right in." Coming to halt as he backtracked towards her, she shot him a confused look before understanding what he meant. She had honestly forgotten about the gun tucked away safely in the side of her jeans. "Oh right, here ya go." She carefully pulled it out and held it out so he could take it from her.
"So what's the plan exactly?" She asked as she approached the door. She knew that the chances of them finding a car with the keys still inside were slim to none. So she hoped he knew how to hot wire a car. If not She could always give it a shot. Then again that might end with her blowing the both of them up.

-----──────------❛ siren lily luss ❜-----──────paragraph a familiar but pained laugh retorted him, "oh come on, faith... there's more to him than that and you know it." she had to admit, she liked it when he got into this mood. his words ran, spilling from his racing, brilliant mind, and how they had always been more telling than any intention of his, ""you know what i think it is... i think, very secretly, you wish you were steve, and youre just jealous." this sheepish grin wasn't forced as it played around her lips. her eyes were still closed and fingers tucked around his thigh, but she couldn't hide how much she had missed their sweet bond.
paragraphthe needle punctured her tender skin and she sucked in a breath. she knew the only thing keeping her from squirming was his hand wrapped around her leg. she tried to focus on that too - the difference in the temperatures between their skin... how she knew she would have squirmed even if they had been this close under normal circumstances...
paragraphshe was twelve. she remembered wanting so badly to just be close with him when they were younger but her father's unaffected gaze made her eyes roll. "dad, ew! oh my gosh... its really nothing! i swear!" but he had just glanced at her mother and the two had smirked. she remembered their mutual enjoyment of her suffering had annoyed her to no end. were they just trying to embarrass her? "fine, have it your way..." she had huffed and wrapped herself in her oversized, fluffy, violet blanket and collapsed at the other end of the couch.
paragraphsiren fought the heaviness of her exhaustion. she tried to focus on faith's eyes as they followed his steady movements. when she had jumped onto the couch in her resentment, she remembered he had just rolled his eyes and stretched out his legs towards her, "if you have to be touching me-" he had lingered on the word with that irresistible grin, "-then just try to push my feet back... you won't." how had she gotten so lucky. with that triumphant squeal, she had swung her legs up, matching heel for heel and toe for toe.

“The plan?” Relic asked blankly, tucking his gun back into its holster. “Oh, right! So the plan was to steal a dead person’s car. So that’s plan A. We find a car, steal it, drive it. Easy!” Easy indeed. Easier said than done. But he’d done it before.
“But if that doesn’t work for you...” he fished around in his pocket and pulled out a set of keys, hooking his finger around the key ring. He waved them at her. “I also have a plan B! We can just use this car.” Relic beamed at her and stepped out into the rain. He cringed as the water rammed into him. He’d always hated the rain. “Hurry up, Riley May! I’m getting wet!”

[ "have a little faith in me, okay?" ]
faith's fingers stopped moving.
the sting was there, but just like that he was done, tying off the thread, fingers quivering just barely as he sat back. the easy part was over. the hard part was just beginning. if siren survived the night, she'd be okay--and in the clear within twenty four hours. but if she developed infection before then, if the wound began to necrotize, then...
well. it didn't matter. faith wouldn't leave her anyway.
"...i'm much more attractive than steve." he scoffed. "steve couldn't even dream of having a trapezius like this guy." he retorted easily, voice oddly hushed. he poured alcohol over his bloodied hands, and dried them off with the towel, before scooting closer. the young man reached out. he cradled her head in his palms, lifted it to rest it on his lap with care, with reverance. he reached into the bag, pulled out a bottle of water, and helped her angle herself up to drink, bringing it up to her lips.
yeah.
if this was the end, he didn't mind so much.

-----──────------❛ siren lily luss ❜-----──────paragraph the amused hum of his voice pulled her back from her distant drifting memories and she couldn't help but giggle a little, "right.. no, of course not. i'm sure he has nothing on you... sorry to even bring it up."
paragraph he was right though. her soft gaze caught his teasing hazel one and for a half-second as he scrubbed his hands, she breathed in deeply. how had this man somehow managed to make a zombie invasion the time to be alive? the mood was intriguing.
paragraphthen he was shifting.
paragraphshe pulled her hand from his leg, whispering an embarrassed "sorry.." and hoping that she hadn't made him uncomfortable. but after just a moment, she realized he wasn't leaving. no- his fingers sliding gently through her hair sent shivers through her little body as he lured her to rest against his legs and she found her face getting hotter as he reached for the bottle.
paragraph it met her chapped lips and looking back- maybe she should have taken it slower, but the first sip rushed down her cottony throat so fast that she found herself coughing and gagging it up before she could even react. it had been nearly twenty hours since she had used her last ration of water and how thirsty she had grown. it was like her body's lifeblood had been slowly draining from her, along with whatever energy she had left- but now she just needed air.
paragraphshe tugged an elbow back instinctively to prop herself up and finally cleared her throat. tears had almost brimmed her tired eyes but she didn't allow them another victory. "sorry.. sorry. i just-"
paragraphnope. there was no saving herself, nor her humility. so she rapidly attempted to shift the focus. she didn't mean it to sound as harsh as it did.
paragraph "faith, why did you come back for me? i could've been dead." eyes were alight and they quickly jumped from his face to the haunting house looming less than 50 yards away. or worse. "you put yourself in a lot of danger and for what... a crippled, starving bit of nostalgia?" the undertone of ferocity wasn't meant for him, but it was coming from a place of pain that she couldn't temper yet. trembling fingers pushed wrinkles into her aching forehead.
paragraph"why even bother."

[ "have a little faith in me, okay?" ]
instinctively, faith pulled it away, keeping her from waterboarding herself in her haste. "it's okay. take your time. you're really dehydrated." he could tell from the way his fingers left white prints in her skin, the way they faded too slowly from view. despite knowing she should rest, he let her pull away, hands hovering to keep her from toppling over.
her words bit, deep, and he was still and quiet for a long moment after she spoke. he reached out, and used the clean part of the towel to wipe water away from her nose and cheek.
"...why do you think, stupid?" he huffed helplessly, brows knit.
