Luke took Tess home and she sat on his lap and watched TV with him. She curled up and fell asleep.

His partner nodded. “Yeah. Oh forgot to tell you, have to go back to the station about an hour before our shift ends. The chief wants to talk to me.” He said.

Jaxon looked at him, "Okay." he said, sighing, "The chief hasn't been happy that he hired a wolf, I don't think this city really approves of one of us in their affairs." he said.

“No he doesn’t. But I will tell him the truth. For a wolf, you are a pretty cool guy.” He said to him as he wrote tickets. The chief knows I am the hardest to win over so that is why he wants to talk to me I guess.” He said.

Jaxon nodded, "Thanks." he said as he looked at him, "I guess so, he was probably hoping you'd chase me off." he said with a soft chuckled.

“Yeah. I know he was. He told me to be really hard on you. But you never quit like he wanted.” He said to him. He looked around as he wrote tickets. “He probably wants me to be harder on you but you just won’t quit.

Jaxon looked over at him, "Why don't you hate wolves?" he asked curiously, "Most people around here don't seem to."

“I don’t hate wolves. I am just hard on everyone so don’t flatter yourself too much to think I only hate your kind. I don’t get along with most people. I expect a lot from people who I know could do great things if they really tried. I married a girl once. We were young. 18 at the time. She was a wolf. We were happy for a month before she was killed by another wolf. When that happened, a lot of things changed for me. I hate the wolves that hurt her, but I can see the good in them too. No one knows that though so you better keep it a secret.

Jaxon looked at him, "I am sorry you lost her." he said softly, "It is hard when pack violence extends out to lone wolves... We had to deal with that recently." he murmured as he looked around, writing up a ticket.

“Yeah it is. She was my best friend. I loved her so much.” He said with a sigh. “But it is over now.” He said and worked. “Hopefully, they stop trying to hurt you. I’ve seen them go after kids to get to you.” He said to him. He wrote more tickets and soon it was time to head back. “We’ve got to go.” He said and headed back.

Jaxon nodded as he looked over at him, "Yeah, wolves bond deeply, I am sure she loved you more then anything else." he said softly. He nodded, "I don't want Tess getting hurt because of what I am." he said, shaking his head, "Yeah." he nodded and headed back to the cruiser.
