Eleanor wrapped her arms around him, gripping the back of his shirt tightly in her fists. She buried her face in his chest, shuddering as she held back a sob. "My dad brought Elliott home. He was going to take her to bed. It's like he forgot I was there. He's done that before, but taking that monster into our home was a different deal."
Jakob's breath hitched in his throat as Matteo lied down beside him, and he scooted over to give him some more room. He let out a laugh, but it sounded strangled as his heartbeat pounded in his chest. "Don't worry. I won't." He settled beside him, gently clutching the front of Matteo's shirt and tucking his head under Matteo's chin, resting his cheek against his collar.
