[list] while driving he started go over Jessica's stats. He would do this every business colleague. "Young. Comes from a wealthy family. I know she has a sister, mom, and dad. She is also getting married to my brother." His tone of voice had gone sour. He didnt think Jacob and Jessica would be a good match but he didnt know the details of their marriage. He just hoped that Jacob would treat her right. "We work on a lot of projects together and she is quite aggressive in business. she also models." He pulled up in into a parking lot next to the place. Stepping out, he fixed his jacket and went over to Cara's doors to open them. After they were out, he led them up to the door, opening that as well. Once he said who he was, a waitress led them back to a private table where a female was sitting with her back to them. He went up to her side and kissed the top of her head. "Jess. I brought some company. I hope you dont mind." He said as he took a seat across from her, leaving a chair open for Cara next to him.

She was startled for a moment when Shane had kissed her head but calmed down with a smile. "No its ok. I dont mind. take a seat." She hadnt looked back yet to see it was her sister that was going to be in her company.

Cara Rose

She tilted her head when he began to speak, not yet knowing he’d do this with any client or colleague they went to meet with. She nodded along, listening, taking mental notes. However, she froze when he mentioned marrying a brother, his brother...No, it couldn’t be...She also hadn’t missed the souring of his tone, shaking her head a bit. She thought to ask, but he only continued to speak, so she just let him continue on. She nodded along again, playing with her hair a moment. Models? she wondered to herself. She glanced up as he parked, seeing the place. She smiled a bit when he opened her door, the third time he’d done such a thing. She dipped her head, humming quietly as she stepped out. She went through the door as he held the building door open, nodding at the waitress whom led them. She barely registered that Shane said Jess...She fixed her glasses, looking up as she passed by to get to the seat he’d left for her. Once she’d sat down, she finally looked up. She froze again, just like in the Jeep. “J-Jessica?” she squeaked.

Jacob Henry

”Kenny, please get Mela a treat first.” Jacob said. Kenny nodded silently, hurrying to where the tuna cans were kept and getting a bit on a dish for the cat. She mrowed excitedly, as she could smell it, eyes wide. Kenny put the dish on the floor, and Jacob set Mela down gently. She ran to the dish, eating.

|Shane Michael & Jessica Marie|

Jessica had looked up from the menu, hearing a familiar voice then her eyes stared, shocked to see her sister. She didn’t know exactly what to say but Shane must have picked up on caras surprised voice, which he did. He seemed genuinely confused on how the two knew each other. “Do you guys know each other?” He asked. She cleared her throat and glanced at Shane. “This is my sister.” Directing her attention towards cara, she asked “how do you know him?” Her voice was a bit upset and a bit angry, wondering how she could had missed such a detail in Shane’s life. Though before Jessica could redirect her anger, Shane spoke up. “She’s my new assistant.” He explained. Jessica still looked upset that her sister had cozied up to Shane and just how she had left, she would take Shane with her.

Cara Rose

She made a small sound, watching, waiting...Finally, Jess looked up, just as shocked and seemingly startled as she was. She quickly glanced to Shane, not quite sure how to respond. She just didn’t know what to say...Shaking her head, she let out a breathy sigh as she kept her gaze on him a moment. She opened her mouth to speak, but it was Jess who beat her to it. She nodded, saying “Y...Yes, she’s my younger sister...” and trailing off. She turned her gaze back to Jess, wantung to speak but again she was interrupted, this time by Shane. She lowered her gaze as he spoke, wondering if he and Jess loved each other...Shaking her head again, she glanced back up, to Shane first. Cory barked softly, moving to nudge Jess’ leg, then came back to Cara. Seeing the look on Jess’ face got Cara thinking... “What did mom do? Why did dad let her? Your fiancé is my boss’ brother?” she asked rapidly.

|Jessica Marie & Shane Michael|

Her eyes narrowed on cara as she asked her questions. “Because her older daughter left the house and mom refused to acknowledge you anymore. Dad didn’t know because I didn’t even know. After finding out, I was under the impression that I was going to marry Shane. So I went along with it and when they made the announcement public is when I found out it was Jacob.” Her anger was present in her voice, wanting to know the real question. “Why did you leave me?” The tears started to prick her eyes as she searched cara’s face for answers. She felt the dog nudged her and gently rubbed his head till he moved. Quickly, she blinked back the tears, refusing to let them fall.

For once, Shane was genuinely surprised. Jess showed actual emotion and tears! Jess had a sister that was now his assistant! Jess was wronged into marry Jacob. Jacob… Shane knew all too well how his brother and mother were and he knew it must be hard for Jess with the attitude from his family. Jess wasn’t a quitter and wouldn’t back out unless it became too overwhelming. With a very soft sigh, he looked down, feeling sorry for her.

Cara Rose

She glanced to Shane momentarily, then back to her sister, the reason they were here. Hearing that mother would have probably married her off made Cara seethe...Shaking her head, she didn’t let it show. “Do you know how mom and dad were? They had me, they loved me like they should. Then mom got pregnant with you. All of a sudden, it was like I barely existed...I’m...I’m not blaming you, but they were terrible...Well, maybe mom made dad act like that, but I can’t be sure. They told me I had to get perfect grades, or else. I couldn’t take it anymore, so I left, and left you there because I thought they’d never do anything like this to you. You were their princess, I thought they’d let you find love on your own. Does mom...want their money, or are they like college friends or something?” she asked.

Jacob Henry

Jacob smiled as he watched the she cat gobble it up happily. Actually, she ate quite daintily for a cat. He thanked Kenny, asking just for some crackers and cheese. He didn’t feel hungry...He didn’t tell Mother, because he knew she’d flip out and blame Jessica. Wait, why should he care? He told himself what worried him was Mother flipping out because...because the first time he’d gotten sick, at three, this is how it started, he’d been told. He let out a breath, smiling at Mela.

Shane just sat back, listening to everything he was hearing. This moment wasn’t meant for him to be there for it and he knew it wasn’t his place to say anything.

“You are blaming my existence sister.” Her voice was cold and it showed in her eyes how distant she was. “I was never moms princess. She only saw me as a bargaining. I was never allowed out and able to hang out with friends. I had to always attend to my studies. Hell! Even dad had to sneak me out just for ice cream. A lot has changed since you’ve been gone. Money isn’t an issue, in fact we are the wealthiest family out there but his family has some nice contacts that mom would like for her own use.” She sat back, crossing her arms. “Worst of all you left me, even though you knew what mom was capable. Dad was emotional distraught and still is. It was never the same after you left and I had no one to protect me.”

She knew Shane was listening...but she didn’t care. The fact Jessica sounded to have wanted to marry him didn’t bother her either. Why should it? Cara and Shane weren’t a thing. Not yet anyway...She did wonder what he thought, though. Shaking her head, she stared back at Jessica, not believing it...not with how they’d always treated her, spoiling Jess. She sighed as she continued to stare at her across the table. “Mom...wants their contacts? Why? They can’t give her more money...” she scoffed. When Jessica said Dad was distraught she’d left, she scoffed again. “He was distraught? Then why did he treat me how he did? You tell me...Did mom force him to act like that?” she asked, with a bit of a huff.

“Parents make mistakes but you should hold a grudge when our mother planned for this to happen. You can’t hold dad responsible for being fed lies. After finding out how mother has acted and once I stepped up in the family business, I had someone investigate it and gave him the proof.” She felt her blood starting to boil from cara’s tone of voice. “I think I’ll end this now. I’m sorry Shane. We can have lunch another time.” And rather quickly, he said “no. The talk about families will not continue. We are here to have lunch and that’s what we will do.” His tone was more dominant and demanding. His facial expression was serious with dagger for eyes which stared at Jessica. It seemed they were having an unspoken stand off for who had the bigger horse. After several minutes, Jessica had given in and relaxed in her chair. “Fine. Let’s just order. I’m hungry.” She groaned and Shane wore a crooked smile of victory. “What would you like to eat cara?”

Cara Rose

She shook her head as she listened, but at the same time didn’t seem to listen...How would mother have enough power over her husband to make him do anything? What kind of lies? What had he even been told? She couldn’t think, especially when Jessica took a tone that sounded angered again...She barely heard Shane saying No to Jess, and didn’t even see the look of triumph when Jess settled back into her chair, seemingly relaxed. Her hands were shaking, in her lap now, and when Cory nudged her it caused her to jump a little. Glancing at Shane, she said “I... I need the bathroom.” Without waiting for an answer she got up, hurrying Cory along to the women’s restroom. It was empty, thankfully, and while she was in there she sank to the floor...Cory began to yip worriedly, prepared to nose at her, when her phone went off. Jumpy, she picked it up and answered it, sight blurring from unshed tears. Hearing her father on the other end, she choked. She listened to him speak awhile, then whimpered “Daddy...” She could hear the joy in his voice being called that after so long, her affectionate word for him from when she was very small. She heard him say Sugar bear, shuddering from keeping in the tears. Hanging up, she splashed water on her face, Cory nudging and prodding her along back towards the table. Pausing to stare at Jess from a safe distance a moment, she finally walked back to the table. Cory, thinking she would sit back down, sat beside her chair. Instead, she wordlessly walked to Jess and hugged her, shaking again.
