leopardpaw awoke two days later to darkness. in the days prior, the apprentice occupied herself with hunting and tending to the kits. by ignoring and avoiding venombite, she had marked a target on her tail. in the shadowy darkness of the morning, the spotted apprentice softly whispered to the kits to rise and follow her.

his brother didnt move, or refused to, but spiritkit got up instantly, giving a loud purr to leopardpaw. "ok," he mewled in the darkness, white pelt easily spotted above the others.

leopardpaw lead the white kitten beyond the camp entrance, the darkness slipping beneath their paws. eventually, she lead him under a break in the dense surrounding. there, in the distance, clearly visible was the rising sun. the spreading rose pink, golden beams from the sun bathed in cliff in a warm glow. "isn't it beautiful spiritkit?" she asked, nuzzling the back of the neck of the tom.

the kit gave a loud purr, small flanks rising and falling as he watched the colours of the sky morph, hiding the stars that stepped over them. he blinked, green eyes reflecting the last ones to appear. "ma told me those were our ancestors, and it's true, i feel them."

the senior warrior crouched behind a bush, lifting her head and scenting the air quietly. she flicked her ears, continuing to squat behind the bush she was in.

a soft breeze from the south caught leopardpaw's attention. it possessed a familar scent. "hmm?" she wondered aloud, but chose to neglect the approaching inquiry. spiritkit was more important. "is that so?" leopardpaw asked teasingly, gently shoving the ivory kit with her nose. "can you feel the love i have for you?"

"yes," the kit mewled, deep admiration pulling through.
"hold on," venombite hissed, stepping out and pouncing towards the two, slamming the kit under her paws. "don't you know it's against the code to let kittens out? just in case predators come attack them. and, well, you know." she grinned as the kit stopped breathing, she released her paws, picking up spiritkit into her jaws and turning her head, putting him under a bush. "now, please finish it. finish me, will you?"

first surprise settled across leopardpaw's features, then gave way to a blood curdling scream as her twisted mentor slammed spiritkit's skull against the rock. an echoing snap resonated in her ears. "DIE!" she screamed, hurling herself at venombite, tears blinding her vision. "spiritkit!" she wailed weakly, her claws scraping across the molly's face, over her ear. before biting her nose, leopardpaw hooked her claws into the base of her throat.

the molly blinked, giving a hard smile settling across her face. "ah, i can feel the fate ocean already, i appreciate it, leopardpaw," she croaked, looking up through her blurred vision to look at spiritkit. "he was dying anyway, why do you think he was named spiritkit, leopardpaw?"

"wait!" he wailed, "wait, i'm right here? see? see? don't hurt venombite!" spiritkit screeched, padding forward as quick as he could, realizing how light we felt.

leopardpaw slipped away from venombite's dying body. the blood that now stained her copper fur tainted her consious. with the final words that greeted her, leopardpaw sat back, looking down at her paws, body trembling. tears spilled down her face. she had lost everything she loved and now had to face the reality that creekwhistle wouldn't let the apprentice near jaykit.

leopardpaw's paws felt numb as she treaked back to the clan, stumbling more often than not. her main concern was telling jaykit that his brother was dead. the kitten loved her so and she did him. what he would think of her now, an inadequate warrior, burned in her chest.

creekwhistle moved around the awakening cats, meowing out for her missing son. she became desperate, eyes wide until she saw leopardpaw. quickly, she ran to the apprentice, trying to breathe. "spiritkit is missing. have you seen him?" she looked at her upset face, ears flicking. "well?"
